So I just got my mSATA SSD installed on my Y560 and am in the process of re-installing everything, and I tried to install and run CoD4 but it doesn't even get into the game, just crashes straight to desktop. I had it running just fine before the reinstall and tried the fix most people say to do (enabling stereo mix in audio properties) but it still doesn't work. I tried running it from the C and D drives, no difference.

Is your mic enabled? I had this same problem the other day and it kept crashing straight to desktop because my mic was disabled.

I don't have a built-in mic, but when I attach a headset it still crashes. When I played it on the previous install, I had to go into sound properties and enable the stereo mix as a recording device, but I was able to play the game without a mic attached if I wanted to.

Well, I installed some other games and then came back to CoD and now it works. Probably missing some library or something that got installed along with something else.
