Hey guys,
I'm starting to get a little unsettled due to some issues with my relatively new Clevo P-750DM-G from Prostar Notebooks. The specs are as follows:
The issue is as follows:
- Clevo P-750DM-G
- Intel 6700K 4.0GHz CPU
- GTX 980m GPU
- 2* 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM
- 500G Samsung 850 EVO OS Drive
- 1TB 7200 RPM SATA III (storage)
- Windows 10
- Bigfoot Killer Network Card
I have been loving this computer. It runs almost any game on very high settings. I had some initial issues with back-light bleeding and crashing. I sent it back to Prostar (which took a while because they were backed up) and they got it to me in tip top shape. I might actually write a review of their service which I have mixed feelings about. Anyway, the computer has run fine up until now. It has been a few months (about 3) and I have installed quite a few steam games and some antivirus software. Recently, I updated to the new 375.70 Nvidia graphics driver through the GeForce Experience app (might have to do with the issue). I also installed Splinter Cell Blacklist... which kept not running while I was having issues with Uplay and the game just not starting. I got it to run but it might have somehow screwed up some steam files or something. On to the issue. Simply put: my Steam games run fine except for all my Valve/Source games. Every time I start them (even in the menus) they will run at over 100 fps initially and then drop to about 30 fps. Usually sticking between 28-29 fps. The strange thing is that sometimes if I go into the in-game menu the fps will jump back up to over 200 (mainly experimented with CS:GO). Also, the screen seems to flicker slightly consistently while experiencing the fps issue in these games (CS:GO, Insurgency, Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2).
What I've Done:
I know there are other things to try but there must be some kind of application or underlying setting causing this issue. I have been hounding to find it but have been unsuccessful so far. Should I roll back my Nvidia driver to an earlier version? This is really starting to bother me and it seemed to have shown up out of the blue. I'm told source games are very CPU intensive... could this indicate an issue with my 6700K? I left my computer on overnight while updating Guild Wars 2 a few days ago. After the update it started the game and must have kept running throughout the night (in the in game starting menu). Maybe this is somehow related as it overheated the CPU?... Which I highly doubt.
- I have tried uninstalling the Nvidia Drivers manually and reinstalling them using the GeForce Experience application.
- I have tried completely wiping the Nvidia drivers using DDU. Then reinstalling them using GeForce Experience and Windows Updates.
- I have checked if I have a bitcoin mining virus running in the background (I think I do not).
- I have tried restarting the computer (duh) several times.
- I have checked for updates.
- I have checked CPU temps which are about 55C under load of CS:GO
- I have checked if my dedicated GPU is the default GPU in the Nvidia settings (Manage 3D) but there is no option to select or deselect my GPU.
Anyways, I feel like I've given as much information as I can. If anymore is needed, just let me know. I hope we can work to resolve this. I really don't feel like sending my laptop back to Prostar (especially because I go to college in Europe). Any remarks and/or help would be much appreciated. I also hope I posted in the right section of the forums. Excuses if this is not the case.

Here is the solution
1) Download and extract Display Driver Uninstaller
2) Run it by right clicking on the EXE and choose Run as Administrator
3) Choose Run in safe mode from the drop down menu
4) once you are in safe mode, select the clean button to remove your old driver and all its remnants
5) once you are rebooted back into Windows, install the driver 357.70 again but don't select Express install, choose Custom
6) Uncheck 3D Vision Driver since you don't have a 3D Screen then check the box below which says CLEAN INSTALL
7) After the driver is installed, reboot manually even if not prompted to do so
8) Once you reboot, go to the nVIDIA control panel then go to 3D Settings, then change the power management from optimal to High Performance
9) Change the Vertical Sync value from set by 3d application to FAST, this way you won't have tearing since VSYNC is on and playing along with GSYNC but your FPS won't be capped -
Wow! Thank you so much Phoenix! Not only did you fix the whole damn issue, you also improved the performance of every game (compared to before the issue). Thank you so much for getting straight to it and letting me know what needed to be done. If you were a company I'd give ya 10/10 for customer service. Much appreciated!! Let me know if there is anything I can do in return.
