    Left4Dead has no dedicated servers???

I swear I have played on a friends server multiple times, he even tells me "hold on I'll go start my server up and we can use it"

I think they added them after release, but the game has a pretty fractured community (arguably because many people moved on before they arrived)

L4D *does* have dedicated servers *AND* matchmaking.

there are also Valve servers hosting games, and you can filter out which server type (Valve, 3rd party) are acceptable to you

L4D's entire server framework is based on dedicated servers. They've been there since day 1, just that people couldn't reserve their own server for themselves or their community until an update months later. Custom maps, server mods, and dedicated servers support have been there since the game's release, just the matchmaking initially screwed up the way they work.

I think you misunderstood me, but that's alright.

It(MW2)'s like L4D with no choice of dedicated servers means: It has dedicated servers but IW does not.

I don't like matchmaking for the following reasons:

    1. I like playing with people that are better than me, it forces me to learn more quickly.

    2. I like to play on the same server pretty much all the time.

    3. I hate match making on PS3!

Just my two cents...SIGN THE PETITION! POST ON IW!

I could not AGREE more, that's on of the things that makes you better at the game.. Plus its cool when you are a lower rank to get a gun from a higher rank that you killed. I just canceled my pre-order for this game on NewEgg.

Uh, most likely, you won't play with people in the other side of the US, because it automatches for you. Which mean, if you have a friend in a different time zone, you probably won't be able to play with them. Also, if any of them is better or worse than you, that gives you a lesser chance of playing with them.

How does this sound to you? A game that you can't play with friends, unless it's in a match setting or some sort (GOD I really wonder how that will work).

I wonder if all these pc gamers cancelling their orders is enough for IW to notice considering the horde of console gamers that will probably buy it anyway. If it is making a dent then i will gladly sign the petition as causing disruption is fun :p

Notice the first thing the guy said about the PC version of COD4 was that it would have dedicated servers. Maybe they should watch this video so they remember what's important to PC gamers.

The only thing helping the demise of PC gaming is all of you not buying this game. I see my other post was deleted, but the continuation of this silly boycott is not helping the PC gaming industry at all.

So they want to lower the amount of games that are pirated? If anything that is one step closer than all of you to saving the PC gaming industry. It will be much harder to get this game working online with a pirated version than COD4, and less hack means a better experience for all the gamers. I admit I rarely ran into hackers, but it was an annoyance none-the-less.

I also dont blame them for trying to make more money of off their game, I think the amount of poopy diaper party poops who will not buy this greatly outnumber the pirates. Bottom line if the game has to be bought for the greatest aspect of it to be used, the multi-player, than it forces people to buy it.

Pirating was never a problem with CoD4. If you pirated the game without an unused cd-key, you were forced to play on cracked servers, which were filled with hackers. Just the fact that MW 2 will be on steam prevents pirating enough. Steam games cannot be played online with a pirated version. THey just want to make money off DLC is all. I'm an ex-pirate, I know how hard it is to pirate games on steam

Okay, before people start blatantly killing matchmaking I'll make things clear.

Matchmaking does not put you against people in your own timezones exclusively.

You'll play with people in your region, possibly with others outside too. Don't know whether we'll be able to play against PAL users and vice versa.

Also, due to MW2 being run through Steam, you'll be able to play with any of your Steam friends.

Maybe not exclusively, but it certainly will.

But that is different from what IW has said. What if your friend is different in skill level? (I'm sure we all are) So then, I can't play with friends who are in different timezone and different skill level?

I'm not going to join in the gaming industry demise crap. Too much to talk about; too much to argue; nothing will change.

Why cant they have Both dedicated servers and MatchMaking on MW2 then everybody will be happy. But unfortunely IW decided to take the cash route and ditch us PC gamers. This will not solve the piracy problem at all and even with piracy COD4 still sold very well. IW is still retarded by doing this

I cant understand why they do not just compromise and go with both dedicated servers and matchmaking.. What if when you run the multi component of the game for the first time it asks "are you a beginner or advanced user?" or something like that.. Would be easy enough.

I really don't like the idea of no more dedicated servers. I would be interested to hear, however, if this means a system-wide matchmaking service that could allow Xbox 360, PS3 and PC players to all play together, or at the very least Xbox 360 and PS3 users seeming as they both have a console controller.

    $£$ basically.

PC COD4 sold about 5mil copies, so its not like we just pirated it either. But I think they'll sell less copies this time round, if nothing else than people worrying they'll set a precedent.

People ACTUALLY sent CAKE (no not a lie) to DICE to say thank you for including dedicated servers in your games in development, rather than following IWs example.

is it possible that IW will host servers? that may not be so bad.

Left4Dead has many servers hosted by Valve, for example.

that + matchmaking would be a better solution than local host as server + matchmaking

even though we would obviously prefer at least the *option* of dedicated servers, that type of solution may salvage the game.

150k loss doesn't amount to much compared to the increase that they're expecting over CoD4.

150k is still lost money. Regardless of how it compares. IWnet was also a big investment so any lost money will make a dent even if a small one.

What bumbs me is how crippled they made the online, reducing it to 16 players, removing mod and custom map supports.... I hate matchmaking because it takes, sometimes, quite a lit to find players, and to be honest it is easier to just jump in to your favourite server and play away.

Besides this won't stop cheating, and might even worsen it, like the PS3 version of CoD4. Cheats will be exploited until they release a patch to address it, unlike with admins you can pretty much kick out the idiots bothering you.

Paying more, for less features is not good on any regard. CoD MW2 is off my list until multiplayer actually becomes worthwhile.

Yeah it is a bummer with the lower amount of players.

But I like the loss of admins. I never really liked the fact that if you disagreed with them on something, they could always ban you. Pretty much a dictator regime. Same goes for my opinion of vote kicking systems.

One of the devs apparently said its gonna be 8v8 max :(

It's just getting worse and worse really, no way in hell its gonna be worth buying for a short but sweet single player with utterly crippled multiplayer :(
I always prefered admin servers too, it means that when people ARE being *nasty people* [don't want a mod hammer] then you can evict them, yeah there are some dictator ones here and there, but much better to have some form of server policing than none.

Won't be buying this game until either they decide to fix it up or do one of those half sales on steam,
Damn it. I was really looking forward to this game but now....
It seems they hyped it up then unveiled a little bit of the curtain at a time to show, instead of a true masterpiece like cod4, a pile of $#!^

    - 60 bucks for pc first
    - release date pushed back for pc second
    - No dedicated servers third

It's like they want people to pirate it
