    Hi,
Is anyone running Call of Duty 2 with the ATI x600?

I have a W3V (x600 64mb; default drivers) and it's pretty **** choppy unless I ramp down the settings to low. And then it's not too pretty. Esp when I compare it to my friend's who is running the game with a nvidia GF6600.

    Just curious...

Run in DirectX 7 mode. There seems to be a compatibility issue between CoD2 and ATI cards. It's choppy on my X700 when running in DX9 mode, but on my friends 6600Go it's very smooth in DX9 mode.

    Budding,
That's interesting. I would've imagined that a x700 would have no problem with it. I guess it's a very demanding game.

A newb question: How do you run it in Directx 7 mode? Is that a setting in the game?

Yes it's a setting in the game, under Options, Graphics. I'm enjoying the game with my 128MB X700 card but this game has crashed to instant reboot a LOT! For awhile it was wiping out (reinitializing) my config file and the record of the levels played, until I got the file back to the proper record (a reeeeeel pain). Now I frequently make a copy of the config file, just in case I need to restore it. The file is "config.cfg" located in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\players\SgtMsyvc, under your own \players profile name of course. Interesting to note that COD original was a game I had considerable trouble with awhile back on my old ATI M9000 laptop card.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try using Directx7.

CoD2 is not very demanding, it's just that it's not very compatible with ATI cards. However, running it in DX7 mode with high settings should be fine on a X600.

Hopefully that's the case. I'll try it when it gets here.

CoD2 is very demanding, especially when run in DX9 mode. DX7 is very easy to handle.

For an X600, I'd recommend running at 800x600, medium-low, filtering and antiailasing off.

It will run fine. The Minimum system requirements are:

System: Pentium® IV 1.4GHz or AMD Athlon™ 1.4 GHz or equivalent
    RAM: 256 MB
    Video Memory: 64 MB
    Hard Drive Space: 4000 MB

So basically aby 64MB graphics card should do. However do remember that these are the MINIMUM specs.

nvidia cards run cod2 better in dx9 because 6600 and up has shader model 3 support. ati only starts to support sm3 in 1800.

old cards can play cod2 pretty good in dx7, but even the best card(7800gtx) can't play cod2 properly in dx9.
