My C&C3 dvd has just arrived. Unfortunately, I'm at work for another 7-8 hours. I can't wait to get home and test it out. Anyone tried it? I'm new to C&C, in fact; I'm new to strategy games all together. Also, would this work on Vista?

you should probably read a bit of background story for the first c&c that came out in the 90's, tiberian sun + expension. you can find abridged versions on wikipedia... c&c3 will be much more interesting to play if you know the story, because this is a sequel to the older games.
I would rate the game 9/10... it was worth a buy
also looking at you notebook, its quite decent. i myself have a coreduo with x1600 and i play the game on 1280X860 (not exactly sure what the numbers are) with medium to high graphics.
The game is however quite slow on this so i don't know what it will be like on a x1400. By saying its slow, i compared my gameplay to my friends desktob, and his game runs much much faster. he probably gets the full 30fps while i probably have around 25 and this is quite noticable when units move around and you build structures.
Just a note, do not play the game on low settings as it looks extremely bad. It may be faster but its seriously not worth it..around medium to high with no AA should be fine to see most effects -
Actually low settings look just fine , its very low that looks horrible. I can play with low-medium (30-70) settings 1280x800 @ capped FPS on x1400.
8.5/10 , its needs more depth and an ending (better known as an expansion). Oh yea and it needs balancing.
Just like wc3: RoC was at the start -
I'll also rate it 9/10. It runs well on low medium setting (1400X1500) on my thinkpad. I can't believe it takes 0.99GB of memory. But I have 2GB
. The graphics looks amazing if you turn them to max.

I was finally able to get back to it and complete the GDI campaign and I've definitely decided I like it and have no problem giving it an 8/10 now. Play the GDI campaign, it's pretty easy and quite entertaining.

Hi all,
I bought the C&C game. I have yet to buy a laptop and I have eyes on the Dell Inspiron 1525. But I'm not pretty sure whether or not the laptop can play this game.
Could you please advise me on the laptop's ability to play the game and also tell me which laptop could well play it?
Btw, I live on a small island, which means that the laptop availability and choice are not as wide as on the big continents.
Thanks a lot

Just dun get integrated gpus, like wise X3100 etc.
Get something like at least a 8400M GS and you will be a happy man. Where do you live btw. -
it'll handle c&c 3 no problem, but better specs will yield better results.
-
Euh, I'm not quite familiar with the technical asects and wordings for informatics, so I have to say that I didn't really quite understood ur message.
I would areciate if I could get the names and models of the laptops which would play the game fairly.
Bobharris - This is quite reassuring to hear...but will a copied dual layer dvd for command and conquer game will be easily readable on the laptop?
btw, I live in Mauritius, a small island in the indian ocean... -
Ok, look for the description of your laptop, if there is the word Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, avoid or change that part. How much is your budget, and if you can. Can you give the website that you are going to buy from there?

but can't the graphics card on the 1525 be changed for a better one? I thought of taking the XPS M1530 but here it just can't be found anywhere and it would cost twice as much to import it.
If you want to know, the ideal laptop for me would be one with lots of ports, full multimedia options since i like watching dvds, decent wifi and battery life, all the ;icrosoft office tools and a decent graphics card good enough to play c&c 3... well, i might be searching for a little too much methinks -
Ok, then look for something like this:
CPU:
Intel at least a CoreDuo or Core2Duo,
AMD ones are called "something"x2, will work as well.
Graphic card:
Nvidia 8400M Gs, 8400M GT, 7600, 7700, 8600M GS, 8600M GT
ATI, HD2400, X1600, X1700, HD2600
They are more powerful than integrated, they should do the job pretty well.
Screen:
Glossy (for movie)
Matte (for work)
You can only choose one.
As for battery life, i think you ll only get about 1:30 to 2:30 of power.
I think the best you can do is go to the shop, take a look, copy down the details and ask everyone again. As my description is very loose... but anything that matches my criteria should do, and there should be those laptops under the 1000euro mark. And my list is sorted from weak to powerful. Likewise for graphic card, 8600M GT is the most powerful of all that i listed. -
-
You just had to be careful, then it wasn't too hard.
As for modern RTS'es, Dawn of War beats C&C3 in every possible way. -
moreover can't the graphics card on the 1525 be changed for a better one?
Thanks
and the commando missions on c&c 1 were playing with Tanya methinks...the hardest were the dogs and the tesla towers... -
-
ok then, i think from what you say the 1525 is not focibly a good choice for command and conquer 3. I'll ty to see what is the best deal i can get for importing a xps m1530...*sigh*
but what are the latest strategy games that can de played on the 1525 (if i'm so on the 1525 it's because it's available here)?
and what are the cons of the xps? (i've seen the review here but i'd like a user's opinion - if there's a link here please forward me)
thanks

If you want to import them, why the hell a Dell?????
Toshiba A210 is also quite cheap and below the 1000euro mark, There are quite some Asus that is under that region too. Not to mention Samsung, Acer and etc. There are a lot of things out there, does the shops there only sell Dell?? -
-
My 7300GT runs C&C3 on maximum detail fine without any AA or shaders. According to Nvidia my card's only 2x as good as an integrated card.
-
-
It's a desktop, but it's pretty old.
AMD Athlon 1.8GHz
1GB RAM.
Nvidia Geforce 7300GT -
I know that Dell often proposes to customise its laptops. If i go to the official dell site, will i be able to 'make' a 1525 configured with a 8600 graphics card?
-
NO....no descrete graphic card options on the 1525. Your only DELL options would be the Vostro 1500, or a 1530, if you want a dell with the 8600. You might still be able to get a 1520, look on the DELL Outlet site, as well. I had a 1520, which was great and now have a 1530 which I love. I not a heavy gamer but I could run most games on med setting with the 1520, and now on HIGH settings with the 1530. I would advise against the 1525, if you plan on doing any type of gaming. By the way, the Vostro is the same machine as the 1520, just marketed to buisness'
