    Hey.

I am trying to install Command and Conquer generals on my new laptop with Windows 7. It installs and when I try to run it, the game gives me a "serious error"

I have tried on my old laptop with Windows 7 and the game runs fine on that.

I tried changing the compatibility mode, but it does not make a difference.

I have tried some fixes online that makes the game work, such as changing the options.ini, but then I cant seem to play online/multiplayer.

Someone know how I can make the game work on this laptop?

    Thanks.

Try to change shortcut to run as administrator.

I recall having some issues in the past with that too, but can't remember exactly what I did. For some reason I remember installing everything as administrator and running game as administrator. I might have even had to set affinity to one core.

I just installed this on my Windows 7 Ultimate x64 laptop and it installed and runs fine. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9200 and nVidia GTX 260m.

Another thing to consider is to update your DirectX (microsoft.com/directx). That has solved issues for me in the past even with older games.

New one has 64bit and I think the old one has 32bit.

I already have all the latest drivers for my nvidia and also Directx, so I am not sure what else I can do to make it work....

Just make sure you go to microsoft.com/directx and download run the auto setup. Even when I thought I had the latest, it still updated a bunch.

There is also patch 1.04 for generals and 1.08 for zero hour.
