i'm thinking about downloading company of heroes on steam they have both coh and cohpposing force for $30 it seems like a good deal i just wanna know i love starcraft is this better/does it give you a similar feel? i have the GPU to run it smoothly so i figure i might as well get all the games that are fun/demanding, also being an rts its probably stupid to use a gamepad huh?(unless i use a wii one)

I really enjoyed COH and i truly believe it is the best RTS out there right now until SC2 comes out.. $30 for both games is an awesome deal, i bought COH alone for $60 when it came out
-
I never liked SC and I do like CoH. I guess that would mean they have a different feel. Also, the AI on CoH can be pretty crappy and annoying so I'd recommend you play it with other people.

lol when i looked at your screename i was like you posted two different comments twice i had to take a second look to make sure you werent the same, heh anyways yeah i heard online is pretty sick so im interested in seeing it myself i just gotta get use to the keyboard and mouse i hook my gateway up to my series 6 samsung 40 inch so its hard to be next to it with my laptop and look at it, so priz you payed $60 for on huh? I guess it is a good deal as you are an owner after all.
-
it's a good game. i play it on my laptop and my desktop. i play it on my desktop maxxed out. and it looks sick. its very fun to play i like the flak 88's blowing the soldier's up and 2 hitting the tanks.
-
Aye I bought that pack I must say i quite enjoyed playing it, but then again im a game looney I play anything and everything. Although I like the deals on steam espcially the ID Software packs I thought most the deals on steam were pretty good value for money. Plus the fact you get to re download to your pc and other pc's which is cool.

Ive been playing CoH since it came out. Definitely the best RTS out at the moment but also a steep learning curve for online play.
-
I bought it a while ago and it is very enjoyable.
Plays great on the laptop in my sig. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow, sounds great i guess it's time for me to pull the trigger huh?
-
Pull it man. I don't think you would ever regret it.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
I finally pulled the trigger and i downloaded it but MAN is this game huge its like 5gb lol hopefully it wont take that long.
-
If you want to fully appreciate the game you've got to get online. Most fun I have ever had with a strategy game!
-
i play coh (+ opposing fronts) online. see ya out there
-
With an RTS, player community (as in, does anyone still play and do new people keep joining or is it all fizzling out) is as important as the game itself. Is the online play full of people, or is it just the die-hards by now?
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wysocki i'm definitely going online when i was a starcraft fanatic i lived online, haha,
and Foosah thanks for the kind invitation, i'll see you out there too.
I was reading a thread today about world in conflict vs company of heroes it was like 5 pages long and 4 and a half pages said that company of Heroes was better, lol i was like thats good to know because i heard world in conflict is quite amazing as well. -

Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
great game. you should get it

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i Downloaded and i LOVE IT but WOW is there a learning curve it might take me like days to understand all the upgrades and stuff.
-
omg so i got this new laptop right, and now i've installed CoH and my dang game wont run the patch 1.4 - 2.1! i've been trying all day and i've already tried reinstalling! trying to manually download the patch now to see if that will work. i'm thinking about maybe selling my disc copy and just buying it off steam because steam will just automatically download it by itself, and i already have opposing fronts on steam. what do you guys think? or does anyone have any help to my problem?
thx
oh and that reminds me: do i need to have CoH fully patched to be able to install and play opposing fronts online? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
lucky STEAM does all the patches for you huh?
-
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah it does, it does all patches/updates automatically you dont do anything!
-
as a non-RTS fan i found this game stressful from time to time, but if you like RTS then definitely get it
-
you will love the king tiger tank and the tiger tanks i love them they are the best tank in the game
-
-
if you get oppsoing fronts it automatically patches to 2.1 i believe, then you only have about 400mb of patches to go
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
The tiger tank? Havent gotten there yet, sounds exciting though!
Yeah you probably should just sell your copy on like craigslist and then just buy it on steam thats would be the best choice by far. -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
I personally prefer cromwells with sherman fireflies in mass numbers... -
-
-
yeah the king tiger. pather's are better tanks then cromwells the pather has 88mm cannon with 2 mg42's and thicker armor then cromwells

i just installed this game again on my new vista laptop after shelving it for 2 yrs.
shocked that the requirement according to vista is only a 1.0? i remembered this being an intensive game... -
It is kind of shocking how quickly graphics progress. This was a bear of a game when it first came out, and now it's getting described as an old game that's easy on the hardware.
Still didn't get a response from anyone as to how populated the game is online. This game is great fun even for skirmishes, but 95% plus of a good RTS is about the online play, and without an active online community, a good RTS is just a shadow of itself. -
i'd say it has a good online community. whenever i go to play online there are a lot of games available to choose from (ranges from 1v1 to 4v4), and the games fill up fairly fast
-
Thanks Foosa.
-
with a ranked automatch you only have to wait about 30 seconds at most for a 1v1 and about a minute at most for a 2v2.
-
and some SS_soldier's
i like playing the germans they have some good tanks
but when i play it on my desktop. and with my 5.1 logitech speakers
when they fire from that 88mm gun the bass from that gun give's me chill's down my back. -
British own all.........2 17 punders plus a trench or two (infantry with brens for button ability) and a michine gun plus a bofors and you have no chance of getting past.
-
so you think lol. but i am not going to sit there and say 1 side is better then the other. because in fact the brit's may have that but the german have better weapon's and tank's they were the best back in the ww2 era. i have played the german's and beat brit's american's and german's. i am really good with rts game's i started out playing cnc dos-mode and then RA1 and tiberian sun and RA2 and cnc general's and cnc3 and i am in the beta for ra3. and i play alot's of sc. but the ponit of the matter is. it's not the side it's the player. simple fact. i play better as german's i learned how to use tanks and soldier's at the same time. and i know how to flak. see you say the brit's are good but the pounder's have a cooldown. so everytime you fire you give away your postion on your gun's then you can move in plus you cant move the gun's
-
i just patched the game to 1.71 and it now shows "game required rating" as 3.0, recommended 4.0.
wow what a jump, what did the patches do to the game? i can no longer play with many of the higher gfx options turned on (previously could). -
i say we organize a big NBR Company of Heroes game!
we could probably do it through xfire or steam friends or something...it'll be fun! -
i have the Sony Vaio SR with intel X4500mhd gfx... the palm rest area gets real hot while playing this game, is it normal?
-
By the way what online levels are you guys at? I play ranked 1v1 most of the time and I've a few different profiles with level 8 for both Americans and Brits, and level 9 for both Wehr and PE...Right now I enjoy playing the Brits offensively the most...
-
-
my vista score for gaming is 3.3 so this game is playable. before patch i could run at rather high settings, but after patch it automatically sets most if not all graphics options to low. despite that, the game is still look gorgeous.
-
vista score is a pretty poor guide.........
and i am up for a game....will just have to figure out times as i am in australia......
and at the moment i am on rank 4 for PE 1v1 rank 3 for british 1v1 rank 4 for yank 1v1 and rank 2 for wehrmacht 1v1......and rank 3 or 4 for pom 2v2
i don't get to play very much and when i do it usually isn't a ranked game........although i have been playing with poms a bit to get practice (i sucked big time with them) -
I played COH and liked it a lot but got distracted before ever taking it online. Now I'm reading on Amazon a never-ending litany of installation troubles and gigantic crashing patches that take five hours, need to be connected to the internet to play even the single player game, and miserable customer service. Additionally, the forums seem to have migrated over to something/somewhere else than the usual Relic forums. And Bridger appears to have quit putting out replays with commentary, which is a shame because they rocked terrifically. All in all I am getting much less charged up about taking up the game again than I was yesterday.
-
you don't need internet for single player....i haven't had any problems with crashes but i only use the auto patch function.....i think that might have something to do with the problems.
Company Of Heroes Anyone have it?
