I installed CoH right out of the box when I got my 1520. When I let the graphics set themselves, most settings were on low/med with a couple on high. However, when I play the game I get horrible FPS, sometimes under 10. BTW, I have the newest patch installed, which utilizes directx10. Any hints on how to make the game playable?

Don't use the DX10 version and you'll get much better performance.

Your X1400 isn't rendering it in the botched DX10 mode.

DX10 is very demanding, 8600M GT or 8700M for that matter really can't game with DX10.

Agreed. If possible, do a rollback to when it was without DX10. That patch isn't very utilized for anything, really. And it doesn't add any visuals except some soft edges on smoke. DX10 is a sham.

Last time I used it on my Desktop PC with the Directx 10 patch the game had no flames, tracers or debris, it would all not show up.

If that still happens directX 10 is a waste of time anyway, I don't know if they have patched that issue or not though yet, it was not to long ago, though.

The goal of DX10 was not to show more bling on the screen. The goal was to make it easier for programmers to develop games on.

DX10 will result in more interesting games. Eventually. But it will take awhile for developers to really optimize using it, and for GPU card makers to optimize drivers for it.

    Give it a few months.

Yes, but it's still a marketing tool. "Oh look! This card can support DX10! Buy an 8800GTX right now! It's just a better version of 7950GTX, but it's DX10! Wowowee!"

    DX10 is a sham.

EDIT: Bdn, I think DX9 can do exactly the same thing (flames, debris, etc). Oh wait, it can.

EDIT2: The only good thing for consumers about the 8+ series is support of OpenGL2.3 or 2.1 or whatever version we're on now.

thanks guys. I noticed an option in the graphics section where the option are yes/no/dx10, and I had selected the dx10 one. I'll turn it off and see what I get. It worked great before the patch, so that'll probably do it. Edit: It worked great. I was able to upgrade most settings and play it at a respectable level (30-60 fps). thx.
