    Name says it all really.

A mod for one of my favourite 'new school' rts' Company of Heroes, that has been in development for 4 and a half years, and a mod that I have been religiously checking at least twice a month for around 3 years now has been announced for release on the 13th of March.

The mod pits US Army vs PLA, and boy does it look good. Completely revised the original game, have changed everything, checkout some of the previous vids (there is an hour long shoutcast somewhere too if interested).

Didn't see anything related to that on here, so posting to raise awareness. The mod team have done an unbelievable job sticking with a mod for this long, and deserve all our applause as gamers.

I've played a couple of skirmish games, two as USA and one as China.

As a mod, its very nice. Audio is drawn from a couple of other games, but well done (esp when it is generally one of the weakest points of the mod). Some parts are a bit weird, but understandable as there isn't a huge number of games to draw from...

Maps are decent - I've only played on 3 of the new modern combat maps, and while they didn't blow me away, I'm sure to find one that will. They are professionally made, but nothing that immediately grabbed my attention. I think ~8 or 9 were included in the mod, with more sure to come.

Unit models are unbelievable. I mean seriously, the weapons, fatigues, Black hawks, Apache (which you can't move unfortunately, just sits there and hovers, like cod), effects, the stryker vehicles.. they are drool worthy.

The sides are made very different - US has PE veterancy, whilst China has the old vanilla US veterancy. Doctrines are also very diverse - US can focus on Air, more "special" units like Green berets, or go for overwhelming power with armored warfare and get the M1A1 Abrams (which I haven't tried to get yet).

Note it is focussed on the infantry (as with vanilla CoH), so don't expect command and conquer like battles. It is still very much like cod, unit lethality I think is a tad more, and battles are a bit faster, but overall gameplay is very similar. I think some of the top end units like the US Bradley kill really fast, but are tough to get, so it somewhat balances out. I tend to use 1-2 vehicles slightly more than in V-CoH, perhaps this is intended by the mod, but the awesome infantry combat is not lost (CoH is like the only game of its type that somehow retains relevancy for infantry throughout the game).

Seriously recommend everyone give it a try...

PS official mod site is down (traffic anyone? :D) but you can download from moddb. Be sure to rate them as they deserve too!

You should be able to. The only thing Tales of Valor does afaik is lock you out of the single player campaigns.
