    Video card on laptop = 256mb ATI radeon x1400 mobility with hypermemory
    Desktop = ATi radeon x550....

    which is better?

    I tried playing DOTA (warcraft 3 frozen throne) and it seems like it displays better on my desktop.....

    so is the x550 > x1400 ??

    I'd say the x1400 should be much better but I'm not an expert on this.

    You're right. The x1400 I believe was a replacement for the x700.

    So considering he has a x550, which is like an x600, the laptop gpu is better.

    I think the x550 was just a budget version of the x600 so the x550 should be about on par with an x1300.

    X1400 should be faster, I believe. It's also newer, so it'll support newer technologies like DX9.0C.

    There's a large difference between desktop and laptop components, however. Other things like processor and RAM and HD end up influencing how well you can play a game. Both my desktop and laptop graphics cards are integrated graphics, but my desktop can play HL2 with very high FPS (but my laptop averages about 7 FPS at 800x600, all low settings) because on the whole, the desktop is the more powerful system, despite the fact that the desktop is 4 years old, and the laptop is 2 years old.

    Spec-wise the X1400 should beat the X550 pretty handily. The only difference I can think of might be that your desktop has a faster subsystem (CPU/RAM) than the laptop does.

    what are ur desktop's full specs?

    and dose ur desktop also have Vista on it? because that might be the problem=VISTA....even though ATI is making good vista drivers, the original game WOW , might not like vista ( or vice versa) or something :confused:
