I just received a Sager NP8660, with graphics card Nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS, with the expectation that my 30" monitor would work with it at its native resolution. As far as I understand there is no reason for a 30" monitor to not work with the computer at its native resolution 2560x1600.
I am not sure whether the 9800M GTS is dual-link dvi capable, and research hasn't given a definitive answer, but I believe it is - can anyone confirm?
Specifically, I have the Samsung SyncMaster 305T, and it is not capable of running at native resolution. I have heard that the Apple 30" also does not work with Sager computers. However, I have heard that the Dell 3007 WFP monitor (and interestingly not the Dell 3008 monitor) DOES work at full resolution.
So the question is, what is the difference between a Dell 3007 WFP monitor and the Samsung monitor? If I buy a Dell 3007 30" monitor, will it work with my machine? Or, even better, is there any way to get the Samsung 305T to possibly work correctly?
Really, one of the main reasons I bought this laptop was so that it would work with my monitor. I am willing to buy the Dell monitor, if it will work definitely, but if not then I will be returning this laptop. Worst case would be that I buy the Dell monitor and it doesn't work.
Anyways, thanks for any help you can give.

Did you install the Samsung drivers on the Sager???
I dont see why it shouldnt work. Look at the DVI port to see what type it is.

Wasn't that the light-up sequence in "Independence Day" before they got blown out of the sky... lol

I haven't done anything involving Samsung drivers. I can't find the cd it came with (if it did infact come with a cd) and there are no drivers available on the Samsung site. I keep getting linked to "Driver Detective" which costs $30 to actually use; would this potentially fix the problem?

Yes it could. I had to do it for my samsung 22" LCD
but firstly do you have dual link DVI? -
Actually after trying to update the Samsung driver via a variety of methods, including Driver Detective, I haven't been able to update or install anything, but Driver Detective labels my "Plug and Play" monitors (not sure why there are 2 listed) as having up-to-date drivers.

Yes I do have dual-link dvi, provided that the graphics card is sufficient for it (9800M GTS) which i believe it is...

I spoke with Samsung and they said that there are no drivers for the 305T because it is a plug and play monitor. It may have come with a CD but if it did I no longer have it. I tried installing some other drivers (not from the Nvidia site because they dont have any) but that didn't help either.
Any other suggestions, anyone, to get this 305T working with my laptop, or to explain why the Dell 3007 might be any different?
