but ive just started to download the free trial and see what its like

also any info on all the add ons for it ? like battle.net and all that ? seems to be lots of stuff for it, quite boggling about all the different packs and whats what ?
also if i got hold of the game and expansion packs, can ti be played offline ? or is it just online only ? ...anyone care to pm me some info ?![]()

I assume you are referring to World Of Warcraft. The free trial really doesn't represent anything of what the game becomes after you reach the higher levels, so try not to judge it too much on that, it gets much better. Realm and race are personal preference but take this into consideration, in a "normal" realm you need to enter a battle ground or the opposing factions cities to fight against other people. In a PvP server, people of opposing factions can fight eachother at any time, anywhere. In a Role-playing server you create a persona that goes beyond looks/name/class/race (like you develope their personality, relations with other people, like Azeroth was a real place) and are really lame IMO. PvP-Role Playing is simply a combination of the last two.
Don't bother with the expansion until you get to around level 60 because you won't have a need for it before then. It is only playable online, and should be, because this game would be boring if not for the social aspect. Add-ons are just small GUI's to help you along the way, extra action bars for skills or potions, some that calculate dps (damage per second) on the fly or coordinate locations of your character.
If you got the time and like to get involved in a good community and like very in depth MMO's then I would highly recommend it. -
Anyways, fifafreak is right though. It is not worth buying the expansion unless you LOVE playing this game(which many do). Try the regular version out to lvl 20 or so. That should give a good idea of what it is like befor you blow like 50 bucks on the expansion. -
If it hasn't gotten its talons into you yet, then avoid it like the plague. There is no point in tempting fate.
-
thanks for the replies
if you choose a real to start..can you change it if say you spoke to a mate and he was ona different one or once you choose thats it ?
the downlods at 32% and says 5 hours left, cant wait to get going ! -
You can always create a new character on your friends realm (you can have as many characters as you want). But if you have a character on one realm, the actually move that specific character to another realm is a little more complicated and usually requires money (I believe its $25). It's usually not worth it to transfer characters unless you put alot of time into one.
-
you will try and contol it and play for maybe 2 hours, then it's 6 hours later, and the cycle repeats itself day in day out everyday. Also the game is screwed, it's no longer any good like when it first came out.
-James -
, thats why ive always resisted
so whys it now screwed ? too many people ? i presume that its busy now with the free 10 day trial ? -
I could go into much greater detail but it would take much to long. Basicly if your just playing the game for PVE( Player vs Enviroment) then it's all good, besides the time and money your losing doing it.
If your in the game for the PvP(Player vs player) then just friggin forget it, you will spend you entire life in WoW trying to get to the top only to be met with a new challenge, such as new expansions(which Effect both PVE/PVP ) that will make all the time spent playing til that moment void. Then there is the unforseen changes, like blizzard changes your class to make it much weaker than before or even stronger.
The point is, if you can find some other game to play and take your time then do it. It sucks to have to pay(not really) and to have all your hard work put on a server owned by blizzard and knowing you cant take it with or save it if the game ever goes down.
Wow is a time, life, money, and mental DRAIN which in the end is not worth it. The game is slowly dieing even tho there are tons of people who still play it. I would have recomended the game when it first came out but not now.
I quit the game myself off and on like 7 times over the years, I have played every class the game has and at one point I realised that I literally was wasting my life away playing the game. It's addicting! that is true.
Ok im done, sorry for making this so long.
-James -
I thought I would hate WoW since I have always played FPS games. But I got hooked on WoW because of its complexity, social interaction, clever gameplay, humor, and seemingly endless choices about how to develop your character. For the most part, the WoW community is very friendly and helpful. Give it a try, but don't blame us if you abandon your real life.
-
thanks for the replies ,makes good reading, ive always kept away as not really wanting to sign up for a monthly bill for a game, and like you say get addicted and eat your life away ,i had a trial on star wars galaxies a long time ago and loved that, but at the time my pc wasnt quite worthy for it
ive been seeing the adverts on tv saying free triel try it out,i guess that got to me in the end LOL , i mostly play fps games and pro evo soccer,im either kicking a ball or playing bf2 or crysis ,cod4 or rainbow 6, much to the annoynce of my girlfriend, so i thought id try this out and see if she likes it and gets seduced by the gaming world hahahah -
I guess I have so many things going on I never really fell into the addiction, still played enough though.
Occasionally they have free character transfers that allow you too change to certain servers. To get the most fun out of it try and play with your friends, join a no-strings-attached guild (as in they won't boot you because you haven't played 30 hours in the past 2 days, or have a raid schedule) with nice members. Socializing always makes exp grinding and questing go faster, plus if you have any questions or need help the more experienced players are usually more than willing.
Edit: I don't see this seducing any girls that aren't into gaming anytime soon -
Got WoW over Christmas and played it A LOT the first 2 months. I haven't touched it much in February and am gonna hold off on renewing my subscription for a while.
Hope you enjoy it. I prefer Alliance myself. -
Oh, and I would suggest going to a realm that has a higher population and would suggest playing PVP realm as well. The game gets markedly more fun/interesting with a friend, so get some of those too.
-
yeah im gonna get some mates to do the trial too tomorrow
ive waited hours and hours for it to finish, it just finished downloadiing 20 mins ago and here we go..installed and now gotta wait for another 870mb update to install
a thing came up where i could choose for that to run while i play but it wont seem to worka nd let me play -
Yeah updates are necessary for play, it sucks when you don't play for a while and you gotta dl a gig worth of updates.
-
@ OP: You can spend thousands of hours on World of Warcraft like me or use that time for something useful (i.e., getting certification from school in whatever you are interested, or pick something you like - web design, 3d, video or audio production, etc and learn it).
If you insist on using your time playing games pick something that you can stop anytime you have to. -
finaly got it on the go yesterday after all the updating, played a few hours and im a level 7 hunter dwarf
its quite a marvellous game, hooked up with some random people and went out slaying various animals together and helping eachother on tasks , great fun !!
how do you go about using the red items you cant use yet ? ,ive managred to obtain a few items but cant use them , i really want to get some new weapons ! -
It depends on why they are red. When you hover over the item u'll see the items stats. One or more of those stats will be in red, denoting why you can't use it. It could be anything from your level, your class, your race, no durability, or you haven't trained to use it the weapon type yet. Just a quick note, each class can only wear a certain type of armor(mail/plate for warriors, leather for rogues, cloth for mages, etc...)
-
ahh i see, thanks for the info, where can i see what wears what ? , i am a hunter and have a couple of pieces of mail armour but held on to it until i could use it, can i sell it/is it worth it ? or i just throw unusable items away ?
also can i get a bigger back pack ?
and on the weapons/training...what do i do when theres no more hunter taining ? do i have to find another hunter trainer ?
and to use better weapons do i just find a weapons trainer to train me ?
thanks for the help ! -
You're playing a Hunter? You want to know whether WoW is worth your money?
Well, here's the best way to get a preview of what awaits you at the high end.
Step 1) Find 24 other people who preferably aren't retards. You can work with a few imbeciles, depending on how well geared the rest of you are, but the general rule is that fewer = better. This is the hardest step in raiding.
Step 2) Spend 4 hours weaving your way through a dungeon that a smaller group of you wouldn't be able to complete, making sure that every single mob and boss are pulled very carefully.
Step 3) While you're fighting each mob, make sure that you're only ever pressing one button: Steady Shot. This is all you will be doing (along with sending a Pet Attack order) for the entire run.
Step 4) Enjoy your snazzy new loot
It gets real old <_< >_> -
If you can use someting now or in the future you should hold on to it (if its taking up to much bag space, you can go to a capital city and store it in your bank).
If the item is unusable and gray in quality definitly just "vendor" it, vendoring means selling to an NPC (non-player character) not another person. If the item is white and you still can't use it, you may be able to sell it to another person using the auction house but probably not untill higher levels. If the item is above white (green, blue, purple) you should definitly keep it for your own benefit or sell it to another player.
Every leveling town usually has a class trainer, in your case a hunter trainer. If you can't find it at the town your currently getting quests from, every capital city also has trainers that you can go to all the way up to level 70.
As for weapons trainers, its not a matter of better weapons, its a matter of the type of weapon. For example, depending on your race as a hunter you either started out using guns or bows. If you started out using a bow, you cannot simply start using a gun when you find one. Instead you must train "guns" by going to a weapons trainer in a capital city and paying a small fee. (NOTE: guns arent necessarily better than bows, it sometimes works out though that you may find a better gun than your current bow or vice-versa) This is only true for weapons btw, you cannot train types of armor (such as a hunter can not learn how to wear plate armor).
You cannot get a bigger backpack, but you can get more bags that can vary in size to hold extra items. You can buy these from NPCs, other players, or get them from loot or from quests. -
go on to worldofwarcraft.com and look under the hunter class, I THINK at level 40 you can wear mail armor but for now you are stuck with cloth or leather.
-
thanks for all the help/info fellas, really appriciate it !
fong- that sounds a bit crazy...how on earth is a new player supposed to muster up 25 good players to help me ?
ive managed to team up with 2 or 3 sometimes out hunting, or going through some caves, and found some players be very helpful and like to team up , its good fun !
i wanted to be a hunter for the animals and pets and be able to hunt with and ride the various creatures, i spent some time looking around ironforge city earlier, there were some brilliant players in there with all sorts of massive lions and tiger things and a unicorn and god knows what , looked incredible some players
i found the auction house as i was trying to find a bow or the hunting rifle as level 4 could use it, but trial accounts cant bid or buy...which i thought was crap
i found the trainers, maxed out the 1st one,but the next one i found in ronforge was expensive and i needed to be higher levels i think
all in all im enjoying it so far and theres a lot to learn and grasp in the the game and controls all work etc
what are the best players to be in your views as i might also try some more out ? -
Best classes are whichever you want, but for a statistical answer you should go on worldofwarcraft.com (yet again) and look at the forums, they have all the changes from the patches and which class is now underpowered/overpowered etc etc.
I made a rouge myself, but usually I'm more of a mage person and most of my friends are addicted to paladins. if you really want to get exposed to all the classes you need to get retail, as 10 days isn't really enough. -

Just curious but what server are you on? I've been playing for about a year and I don't really think the game is that addictive. I play when I have time and don't when I have other stuff to do just like any other game. Good choice with a hunter they are a good class to start with since the pet makes leveling easy.
-
WoW did take over my life (In fact i have it minimized at the moment while I fly). I enjoy it but i think i might cancel my subscription in order to salvage my life.
-
WoW seems to polarize people, its almost too good the way it grips you!
I think its a great game and I still play it, albeit in a casual way where I dont raid - I do PVP BGs and Arena in 1-2 hours bursts and I have great fun.
Anyway...Polsta:
- Hunter is a fine class choice. fun to play and easy to level as someone mentioned earlier.
Having said that, its good to try out 2 or 3 characters just for some variety, I have 4 myself of various levels that I play on and off. -
Leveling up.... In any modern MMO... Is the absolute lowest point of gaming history... :[
-
nfo....im on dragon something or other
i might check out wowscap has anyone got any view on them if its any good ? as we have 2 computers in the house and 3 people who want to play it,that way we can play together without the $$$$ !! -
Is that a private server?
-
Just to let you know my experience with the game.
I've got a level 70 Mage on Area 52(US-PvE), and am currently leveling a druid so that I can have a healer.
I've played both in the end-game PvE world, and PvP world.
From my personal experiences with it, this game is horribly addicting. There definitely is a casual side to it, but for anyone who demands to be the best, then it also demands a large portion of time.
I mainly started the game due to having a shoulder surgery over the summer. I joined up with a guild for the intention of end game raiding. Along the way, I fell in love with the PvP aspect, and dabbled in a bit of both.
I feel like either side demands just about as much time, with the PvE side, taking a tad more to excel in. I'm currently progressed to 4/5 TK, (3rd to last big Raid Dungeon) and have 3/5 of S3 Gear.
I can say for sure that its a great game, and its very fun and sociable. But do be wary of the amount of time you put into it. Its a time sink if you aren't careful..
Overall though, you'll have fun playing it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. -
nice one blake
so what are the main differences between normal and pvp ? im still trying to get to grips with it all !!! -
-
I'm a complete noob to WoW also, and what I found really helpful is www.thottbot.com
-
also...i was in the war room in ironforge city, and there were people asking me for something or other,i cant remember what it was now though, also when i clicked on one of the computer player ppl there, he was saying do i want to go to the battle/battle fiield or something like that, what happens if i click yes ? i didnt want to click yes coz i was new and didnt want to f**k myself over somehow if you can ? , is it a massive battle between allience and horde ? like a real war ? -
Battlegrounds are an instance where horde vs alliance go against eachother and try to beat in eachother at various objectives (depends on the battleground). Clicking yes probably wouldnt work as ur not high enough level, but even if you are its not a big deal. Go out and have fun, you can leave the battleground anytime by /afk and you'll end up at the npc which u clicked to join. (note: if you leave the battleground before it ends - one team wins - you can't join another one untill 15 minutes later).
-
ah cool, thanks for the help !!!
one thing i wondered....if i fight in battle or against anyone and loose...do i ooose any items or money or anything ? , ive avoided fighting so far pvp or battle incase i did
also ...i started the hunter pet training thing, but my stick thing has ran out of charge...how do i re charge it ? , ima bit lost with that !"
thanks man -
No, in PvP you only stand to gain, not to lose (though this isnt true in Arenas where you have a rating, but don't worry about that untill 70 as you can't even participate in arenas untill then). Furthermore, you will not even lose durability upon death in PvP (unlike the massive amounts of durability lost from a death in PvE).
As for the hunter pet training, can't really help ya there as I've never been a hunter. In general though, anything with a "charge" of sorts that is not ment to be one-time use can usually be "recharged" by the same process you would use to fix durability, repairing. -
I recommend you try a battleground even at low level, it can be a lot of fun and there are some good rewards too - you accumulate "marks" when each battleground ends, you get 3 marks for a win and 1 for a loss.
I think in your level range you can only do the Warsong Gulch Battleground, which is quite a nice small one with 10 players on each side. The objective is to capture the opposition flag, taking it from their base to yours 3 times for a win. One warning though, this battleground can result in stalemates that can last a long time!
Two more things to note about battlegrounds:
- The battlegrounds around divided into level brackets, so if you are level 15 for example, you dont have to fight level 70 people. The level brackets are arranged like 10-19, 20-29, 30-39 and so on up to 70.
Due to the way the brackets arranged, I have found it is more fun to enter a battleground at for example level 18 or 19, than level 10. If you try it at level 10-16, you will probably die a lot to level 17-19's.
I hope thats understandable!
- Second thing to note about low level battlegrounds, there are a lot of level 19 characters running around called "twinks" that are effectively insanely powered up characters with the best items and enchant possible on a level 19 character. Their sole purpose is just to kill regular characters over and over in a series of one sided fights.
Quite often the outcome of 10-19 Battlegrounds is decided by who has the most "twink" characters.
try not to be too discouraged if you encounter too many of these as the PvP gets better and more even as you level up into the higher brackets.
Sorry for the long post, but sometimes people can be put off by twinks and stuff if they are new to the game, and its unfortunate because its not a fair reflection of the game later on.
anyway I recommend you try them out and do whats fun for you - There are also excellent rewards at low levels that will help a hunter level up: a bow, a necklace, and a ring - all are blue (rare) quality and cost 20-30 marks each. I normally grab at least one item each time I level up a character.
You can check out their details at the wow website under "Warsong Gulch Rewards". -
nice one defoe+1 rep !! very helpful and feel free to add more
sounds real good and im gonna go find a battle to join in a min, to get to the low level ones can i just enter them in the war room in ironforge ?
i was exploring ironforge last night and its absoloutly massive and i got a bit lost, i also made some new charachters to see the different parts of the world ,like the orcs, undead, humansetc, its nothing short of spectacular really how big it i
so its it possible with each charachter to venture to the other parts of the world ?
what i really want is one of them big cats to ride, what sort of level are they at ? -
You can get a mount at level 40. Dwarves get rams, Elves get the Cats, Humans get horses. Later on you can have any Alliance mount type you like.
The level 40 ones cost 100 gold so get saving =)
And yes you can join any Battleground from Ironforge, Stormwind, and Darnassus. You have to be level 10 as a minimum though. -
ok mate thanks !!!
il get saving !!
just wondered....is defoe as in jermaine defoe ? -
Yeah, although I regret that choice now. I really should get another name lol.
-
I'm stuck with a stupid bird mount (I'm a blood elf).
-
lol defoe....hes plying his trade for my club now,om a pompey lad
so can you not gte rid of the mounts then ? ive just completed the 1st hunter pet training things so i now have the proper taming thing, ima level 20 odd i think now ! -
Needless to say, chickens aren't too frightening.
But, luckily, its just for 20 levels. I've got all kinds of mounts these days. My favorite of which being my Red Riding Nether Ray. -
thats awsome man !!! does it full on fly ?
-
yep it appears to be a flying mount....
-
Yeah it does Polsta. Its one of the epic flying mounts. You can fly around all of outland with it.
