Ok folks, here is the news that we enthusiasts have been waiting for:

 Nvidia prepares 8800 for notebooks
    from TheInquirer.net

Computex 2007 Meet NB8E, new G80 chip in 22W+ envelope

WHILE THE ORIGINAL G80 chip was a monster and consumed over 100 watts of power, Nvidia decided to mark this summer with its NB8E chip, a re-spin of the original G80 that will address the enthusiast notebook segment.

In order to fit the power envelope, lots of changes have been made, from the way the chip is manufactured to the functional units themselves. Even though these cuts will decrease 3D performance when compared to the desktop, this will be a most powerful chip for notebook market. Currently in roadmaps we have seen somewhere between Croatia and Taiwan, NB8E should come to market as NB8E-GTX, NB8E-GT and NB8E-SE. These codenames will probably end as GeForce 8800M GTX, 8800M GT and 8800M GS.
    ______________________

    :GEEK: UPDATE (08/2007): :GEEK:
As it turns out the first official appearance of the NB8E is the 8700M GT... which is shown in its drivers. So the name of this chip might be 8700M rather than the previous (and well hoped) 8800M.
    ______________________

For the end, here's a teaser. For dual-PCB 7950GX2, Nvidia used G71M, mobile version of its ultra-successful G71 (7900) chip. Guess what becomes a possibility if the G80 is packed in 22W+?

    Officially from Nvidia.com:

    UPDATE: (June 2007)
    more cards to come :)

So the timeframe looks very promising to see these beastly GPUs come out before summer's end. Expect to see these in the high-end 17"+ notebooks, its possible that they might be in some 15.4" notebooks... but its doubtful for power and heat issues.

    Game On People,

    ... and in the M570RU.

Oh... and I was not sure to post this in the News sections. So move it if need be.

The Asus C90 is probably one of the few 15.4" notebooks that can possibly handle one of these beasts.... though the heat and power from such a videocard might not be ideal in a small 15.4" notebook chassis compared to a 17"+ one.

We will have to wait and see I guess.

Since your the expert at all this stuff, how much do you expect the prices to be for these beasts. Dont worry I wont hold it against you if your estimate turns out to be wrong lol

LOL. I am not going to even try and speculate on the pricing for these videocards.

I am very confident that it'll be over $500... since the current mobile 7950GTX sells for around there at the moment.

hmm, hope I can get one for 2300 $

Im glad I waited now though, first was gonna get a dell 9400 with 7900 gs, but decided to wait till santa rosa and 8600M GT came out, was gonna buy the asus g1s but decided to wait for computex, good thing I did. Now if nvidia decides to release some other crap I wont wait lol gonna make the purchase on the 8800M GS when it comes available.

If they could pack one of these into the C91 (or whatever its called which is coming soon), that would be so awesome. It might need some CPU undervolting and GPU downclocking to work but hopefully they make it possible at least.

ouch 500$ too ritch for my blood, I guess I'll stick to desktops for high end gaming, I just want a notebook that can play some games.

the 8600GT should hold me over just fine, and its not very expensive wich appeals to me quite well.

If the C90 kicks of good, and indeed this card or some version of it is MXMII compatible, Id hope the higher demand for seperate notebook components will cause a bigger market for them and thus lower prices thru etailors that buy en-mass.

$500 beans..hrmm...$500 just for a video card, you could get a g8800GTS desktop card that's not undervolted and clocked at slower speeds since desktops don't have that issue. If the card is too powerful and has to be undervolted, what is the point in getting a mobile 8800 card? Might as well settle for a lower end dx10 card or midrange.

Well..I have 2 g8800gtx cards for my desktop in sli..I shelled out $650 a piece for both those cards..does it make sense to you guys that a g8800gts desktop card that goes for $500 is equivalent in price to a mobile version thats alot weaker?

Thanks for sharing that info, Gophn. These new GPUs are exciting news for gamers indeed. I wonder how much power they can put under the hood of this new series. Looks like they'll be getting them out in time too.

Actually, going with a Clevo is probably your best bet for a high-end gaming system at a decent price. It's the boutique brands that pad the price a lot. Try a Clevo from a reseller like Powernotebooks or XoticPC vs. the same model coming from VooDoo or WidowPC.

That might be pretty tough to do. At least when these GPUs are new.

I have no problem with ASUS not putting enthusiest chips in their notebooks; but I don't like how they treat 8600M as an ethusiest chip.

That being said, these things will be expensive, considering D900C 7950GTX(remember, different from other 7950GTXs) SLI upgrade is $495 just about everywhere. I'm predicting $650+ for one in D900C or M570RU.

It's funny. I don't game much, so you'd think I wouldn't want one. But being a computer graphics programmer, I feel like I'm entitled to one.

Im looking forward to it mainly because when it comes out it will bump the 8600 into more of a mid range card, at the moment the 8400 is being treated as mainstream and the 8600 as enthusiest when its really not. Hopefully they will release the 8700 around the same time if not sooner.

The 8600's are just going to remain in the mid-range...

in these days a 128-bit mem interface videocard cannot be considered high-end

the 8700-8800M's will hopefully put the DX10 into a new realm for mobile gaming.

As far as I have been able to tell, Computex hasn't officially started (sounds like it runs from June 5-9). Do you think thats the reason why these cards haven't officially been announced? Nvidia still doesn't mention any sort of 8800M card on their site. Think we can expect to see one there within the week?

Can someon explain for dolts like me what this "teaser" means.

For the end, here's a teaser. For dual-PCB 7950GX2, Nvidia used G71M, mobile version of its ultra-successful G71 (7900) chip. Guess what becomes a possibility if the G80 is packed in 22W+?

Yeah, I check that page almost daily to see if its been updated with some real info on those enthusiast cards. You have no idea how many times I have run a google search for "Geforce 8800M" to see what new speculation is out there. The sooner these cards are officially announced, the sooner Dell will have a chance to refresh the XPS M1710 line with these guys. I'm sitting here biting my fingernails at my keyboard hoping they get it all figured out before I'm off to college in August.

Heh, I do the exact same thing. :p I'm always on the prowl for any little bit of new news about enthusiast DX10 notebook cards, in the hope that I'll be able to get my laptop before college starts back up.

The desktop 7950 GX2 was basically two cards in one. If you then put two 7950 GX2's together, you got "Quad SLI". The article is implying that because the 7950 GX2 was made out of two mobile 7900's, then maybe now with the new mobile 8800, we'll have an "8800 GX2", which would allow desktop users to have Quad-SLI 8800's, which would be pretty kick ass.

Not 8800 GX2, it would be an 8950GX2 based on what NVidia did in the past. This looks very interested, especially since I am in the market for this this stuff parallel to the launch time. Hopefully the price won't be super high, or its an 7950GTX for me.

Edit: I was wondering, will these new GPUs be CPU bound like their desktop counterparts?

    [IMHO]
    well..
there was never a 9 in NVIDIA in 6xxx cards
so,i don't think that there will be 8950GTX or 8950GX2
the 9 numbers are always in GFX 5XXX and 7XXX
so, don't give too much hopes & wishes coz i may won't came true.
if you'd 8800 in a notebook you should have thanked to NVIDIA coz if there are higher levels, you'll only toast your notebook, and power

It equals two Geforce 8800 cards in SLI. It's not that hard to believe, honestly.

I'd say nVidia will be waiting for the new cards for ATI to be released this summer before launching the new ones. Who knows? Time will tell. ;)

    Hey,

I am very excited as well about all the hype surrounding the Go 8800's or NB8E-GTX, or whatever they're called, THEY LOOK AWESOME!!!

But my real question to any kind sould really is what will the avaliability of one of these beasts be like for me in the UK????

I hope there is good news for me as a European from the UK. :p

    Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Why would Nvidia wait on the most anticipated release of mobile hardware this year when they could get it out as fast as possilbe and beat ATI to market just like they did with the high end desktop DX10 cards? The sooner they get out the 8800M the more customers will buy one without even thinking about whatever ATI will eventually offer.
