Hi there, need advice! Acer are offering the aspire 5633wlmi which uses the nvidia 7300. I know it won't blow anything away but for uni thats all I need, price over performance :D However acer also offer the travelmate 4233 which has exactly the same specs, again a 7300. This is where I hit the problem...

    Aspire 5633wlmi - 7300 128Mb dedicated + 272Mb shared = 400Mb for £599
    or
    Travelmate 4233 - 7300 128Mb dedicated + 128Mb shared = 256Mb for £435
    (reduced from £599)

Will there be much of a performance difference between the two GPU's and is it worth the extra £165? The fact that the systems are practically identical suggests to me that there could be a way of changing the settings (bios?) so the two are the same, is this also possible?
    Many thanks...

those gpu's are identical performance wise. neither will be very special, but they should run half life 2 fine.

the 7300 will be much better than the 5200.

As noted there should be no performance difference between those Go7300s if they both have the same amount of dedicated memory. I'd go with the TravelMate because A) it's cheaper and B) it has better quality than an Aspire (TravelMates are Acer's business notebooks).

The Go7300 is many times better than the FX 5200.

It seems like most people do my friend. ;)

Thanks, cleared things up nicely, its the dedicated memory that counts :)
