Sorry if this is a dumb dumb question, but i have seen the nVidia go7600 to be ranked BELOW the Ati X1600, and was really confused as to why.
I have an Ati X1600 in my W3J, and i know its a pretty standard card... or at least it used to be, but it is only 256mb Dedicated and 512mb Hypermemory, whereas my friends nVidia go7600 on his Asus A8jm is 512mb fully Dedicated.
Ive always thought his card is superior to mine. Am I right?

As far as I know his 7600 shouldn't gain much from the extra video ram as the card doesn't really know how to use much above 256meg.
-
512MB being dedicated over 256/512 hyper is irrelavent, in the bigger picture -
how many MBs a card has doesn't really mean anything. his card is probebly no faster than a 256mb version. I doubt that his card is even close to being fast enough to use all 512MBs.

I'm sure if you look around the forums somewhere you will find someone comparing/testing a 256meg vs 512 meg somewhere. They would be able to show real world performance difference.
-
no real diff
It's all brand loyalty between the two cards
I like the X1600 over the 7600
the next person might like the opposite. -
My g1 is NVIDIA go7700
Desktop ATI x1950pro
I have never really had either really disappoint me though -
I tend to see the x1600 as being the better card, with more overclocking potential. The Go7600 only has 3/4 the number of pixel pipelines as it's desktop counterpart (8 vs 12), while the x1600 has the full 12 pipelines.

Take a look at the comparison between the cards in the W3J and A8jm.
512mb go 7600 vs 512hm(256 deticated) X1600 -
interesting
Thanks everybody
What a great site. really.
ps. haha i just read that this topic was brought up many times b4... and it got brought up so much it made Mastha "sick and tired"... woops. Sorry.
„Which card is faster : X1600 or GF7600?” or „I don't know what to choose, X1600 or GF7600, help I'm noob”

The real way to decide between the Go7600 and the X1600 is based on what type of games you play. If you play OpenGL games like Quake 4 and Doom 3, then the Nvidia is the best choice because Nvidia cards are consistently faster than their ATI rivals running OpenGL code. But if you're running Direct3D games like Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, then the ATI is the best choice for the same reason - ATI is usually faster than Nvidia when running Direct3D code.
When you average the gaming scores, they are very, very similar. Everybody in here has posted great opinions.
