Hey Guys, I have a weird question. I'm waiting for my laptop in the mail, which has a good screen. I'm wondering if it's possible to hook up my 360 to the laptop and use it as a monitor? My tube tv is really old and I don't have money to upgrade to an HD just yet. If this is even possible, is there anything I should be worried about, like my laptop being worked too hard by the 360 and blowing up?

(I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, mods feel free to move to appropriate forum)

If it has an hdmi port I believe you can just connect it through there with an hdmi cable (you can find one online for less then $10). I haven't had personal experience with this method so please correct me if I am wrong.

Most laptops have HDMI output, not input, video/audio signal goes from the laptop to external display sources, such as a desktop monitor or TV.

From the reviews of Easycap USB Video Capture Adapter on Amazon, it's been confirmed that it would not work on 64bit Vista/7, but 32bit will work if you run the driver in XP compatibility mode.
This is not the only USB capture adapter on the market, try others, but they are bit more expensive.

if you have a desktop monitor theres a 360 adapter for that but yeah laptops are a little trickier.

There are a few ways to do it with both quality and no lag.

    SD quality - HAVA
HD quality - Avermedia HDMI Capture card

The hava does the decoding for you so a slow computer can handle it. The HDMI capture card may require a faster computer but its confirmed lag free and also the cheapest HD capture method on the market.

EZCap is also popular and by far the cheapest way but its SD quality and kinda finicky.

i tried it for my dv9 series and that didn't work. adapters would make it worse but i think as Vicious spoke of a capture card to your laptop will work but don't know about the delay.

The Avermedia HDMI Capture card requires a PCI-E slot. A.k.a. it's for desktops only.

He could try putting it in this.

Alternatively, if your laptop has USB 3.0, you could buy one of these. Though you might want to look into a small TV at that point.

That's a semi-pro grade capture card that most likely have a pre-processors (that is to say, there will be a delay between what is being captured and what shows on screen as it has to be processed first). I've worked with other semi-pro capture gear and they all have that behaviour, so I would expect the same from this.

The pass through output won't have that behaviour, but that's useless in this particular case because it means you have to pass it through onto a monitor/TV for display.

Yeah I sort of forgot it was laptop only for a moment when I made that recommendation. It is a GREAT piece of equipment though under $80 for full 1080p 60fps capture. No other solution provides the quality or price.

However if we wanted to be technical you can use a pci-e card on a laptop with an adapter :D

the best thing to do is to just get a wired 360 controller.
