Hey Guys, I have a weird question. I'm waiting for my laptop in the mail, which has a good screen. I'm wondering if it's possible to hook up my 360 to the laptop and use it as a monitor? My tube tv is really old and I don't have money to upgrade to an HD just yet. If this is even possible, is there anything I should be worried about, like my laptop being worked too hard by the 360 and blowing up?
(I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, mods feel free to move to appropriate forum)

doable with a USB video capture unit .. NOT ideal though as you will find lag
-
Yep, it's doable, but not ideal.
All you need is some kind of USB capture adapter, like this one:
Amazon.com: Easycap USB Video Capture Adapter: Electronics
Then follow the tutorial here:
(You will also need something for the audio too)
YouTube - How to Use Your Laptop Screen as a Gaming Display.
It's probably best that you just buy a used HD TV for now from craig's list or garage sales:

anyone know if it supports 1080p? -
if your laptop is clevo x8100 then yes
-
If it has an hdmi port I believe you can just connect it through there with an hdmi cable (you can find one online for less then $10). I haven't had personal experience with this method so please correct me if I am wrong.

i just found out that this adapter doesn't work on anything above windows xp 32 bit
-
^HDMI ports on laptops are generally only HDMI outs
-
From the reviews of Easycap USB Video Capture Adapter on Amazon, it's been confirmed that it would not work on 64bit Vista/7, but 32bit will work if you run the driver in XP compatibility mode.
This is not the only USB capture adapter on the market, try others, but they are bit more expensive. -
if you have a desktop monitor theres a 360 adapter for that but yeah laptops are a little trickier.

There are a few ways to do it with both quality and no lag.
SD quality - HAVA
HD quality - Avermedia HDMI Capture card
The hava does the decoding for you so a slow computer can handle it. The HDMI capture card may require a faster computer but its confirmed lag free and also the cheapest HD capture method on the market.
EZCap is also popular and by far the cheapest way but its SD quality and kinda finicky. -
i tried it for my dv9 series and that didn't work. adapters would make it worse but i think as Vicious spoke of a capture card to your laptop will work but don't know about the delay.

i was reading around myself n i saw that the easycab has a 64-bit driver if u look around on google.. since its on 8 bucks u can probably try it out..

The pass through output won't have that behaviour, but that's useless in this particular case because it means you have to pass it through onto a monitor/TV for display. -

Yeah I sort of forgot it was laptop only for a moment when I made that recommendation. It is a GREAT piece of equipment though under $80 for full 1080p 60fps capture. No other solution provides the quality or price.
However if we wanted to be technical you can use a pci-e card on a laptop with an adapter
ExpressCard to PCI Express Adapter - Full Length - EB1F, $749.95 -
the best thing to do is to just get a wired 360 controller.
