What's your pick? Personally, I like console games. While I do play some computer games, they are mostly strategic (Sim City, C&C). Part of it is that up until fairly recently, I never owned a computer that was capable of running the latest, cutting edge games. Even once I got to that point, having to boot up, and find the CD, and wait for everything to load just took me out of the mood. At least with my console, I throw in the disc, turn on and just wait a few minutes.

I used to play Flight Simulator alot and did pick up the 2004 edition. I'm trying to find a HOTAS controller so I can get the full experience. Anyway, just curious.

If anyone plays XBox, I'm on there daily...same name (Big Calhoun). Usually I play Rainbow Six 3, but also have XIII, Crimson Wings (sp?), and Mech Assault (who doesn't have that?), and Ghost Recon (Island Storm and the first one...forget the title). I have PS2 also, but haven't been impressed with the online offering.

I also prefer console games, although I prefer the GameCube to the Xbox and PS2. I rarely turn on the PS2 these days. Most of my PC gaming is emulation of old consoles and handhelds. [ :D]

I used to prefer PC games, but the ones I liked take too much time (RPG's like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights) or are too violent to be playing now that my kids are watching me (First Person Shooters- I really like Shogo). Now, I need games that I can pick up and play for 10-30 minutes, or less, and not worry about damaging my children's minds. Now I stick to my playstation. tekken 3 (no blood or guts) after the kids go to bed and GranTurismo 2 while they are awake. Marcus, my 4 year old loves to play the "race car game" with me. I can't tell you how hard it is to snag first place in a Le Mans car with a 2 year old (Lars) crawling all over you!

I prefer PC, because the main games I play are strategy and fps games, and neither of these are ever close to the speed of play you can get with a mouse and keyboard.

How much are you offering? [ :D]

I have four VB's. I got them at Meijer's after they flopped for $20 each. I got my first 3DO that way too. I love Mario Tennis. I won't sell them becuase they will never be emulated correctly.

With respect to raw processing power, theres no doubt in my mind that a PC is better. That is one of the reasons that I never got into PC gaming because it was hard for me to stay ahead of the curve. Now that I can, I've grown acustomed to playing games on a console. Playability wise, I think a console is the way to go. Give me a game pad, tell me what the buttons do, and let me rip. I can't be bothered with having to remember what keys do what. There are also games made for consoles that we may never see on a PC, although that seems to be happening less and less. Overall, a console gives me a better experience.

With respect to the point you made about turning, how does that work with two people playing on a PC but with different hardware...say a 1ghz P4 and a 3ghz P4 with HT; wouldn't someone also have an advantage in that situation?

You bet you can have a hardware advantage. My father-in-law used to paste me all the time playing unreal2KT, until I got a better machine. When playing over the internet, the speed of your connection might be the biggest factor, though.

I think the main genres that the console wins at, for me anyway, are fighting games, and sports games. I have never played a descent one of either on the pc that didn't have better control on a gamepad.

As for turning that is more graphics lag than turning, you can always increase your mouse speed to help get it to a level you are comforable with, in game and in windows.

I prefer console games, though only barely. I like to just pop in a game, and have some guys drop by and pick up a controller. If I'm alone though, I'd go with a computer. The most fun thing to do is to have a 16 way Halo game with all your buds, nothing beats that. Sure, 100 player online computer games are great, but it is a ton better if you know all the people playing and they're your friends.

Good things come in small packages.

16 man Halo games are the way to go. Granted, I don't have 16 friends close enough to play such a match. However, the Gamespy Arcade will let you jury rig an online setup for Halo. With Halo 2 around the corner, Gamespy is getting less and less play time.

Any one play Steel Battalion 2 for the XBox. I want to get into it, but can't find the monster 40-button controller.

For PC I mainly play first person shooters, standard real time strategy, point and click adventure and the occasional typing game ;-)

But I have to go with consoles because I'm mostly a fighting game fanatic and consoles are where they put the fighting games.

what is the point of saying any of that except for flame bait. If you don't have anything useful or a positive way to say it, leave it out.

Yeah for small groups fighting games are great, they use to try to port them to pc back with the pentium II chips, but they were never any good.

What about getting a gamepad for a computer? Do these work with many games? Does it make playing on the computer the same as a console?

It's similar. I bought a Sidewinder by MSFT that worked great for the few sports games I wanted to play on the computer. The mapping is kind of a pain to set up sometimes, but you can keep profiles for each game, so it's a one time thing.

Gamepad's work well for certain games, usually the ones that are better on a console, due to the nature of controls. However, I wouldn't use one for most "PC" games such as any strategy game, or first person shooter. Another thing thatis more obviously console is the old nintendo and other emulators, having a good gamepad for this is a great benifit to have.
