Right so it seems like consoles emulation is a pretty interesting topic on these forums. Let's write here everything related to it.

First of all, yes, emulation can be illegal but only if you don't own the actual console, thats why the PS2 Bios, for example, can't be found so easily. You can extract the bios from your own console with a usb pendrive and a program for that wich has to be burned on a disc. Older consoles such as the SNES can be legally emulated since they cant be found anymore. (Or so they say)

I'll start with a few questions...

I've got the PS2 Bios and FFX-2 loads fine on PCXS2 but do I need the rom1.bin rom2.bin and rom3.bin ? I've heard I do. Also.. how exactly do you make an ISO out of a PS2 DVD? (I know how to make isos from normal CDs or PSX CDs)

I've seen some videos of Gamecube emulation but it seems to run too slow at the moment.
Never heard of any Dreamcast emulation...
There are two good Nintendo64 emulators I know called Project64 and 1964 wich play most games great. PM me if you need a link to get the roms.

P.S.: Yes, I DO own the console. :)

i love emulators...i dont like the new generation of games..im 26

and i like oldschool games better

i play them at work when im bored

    heres what systems i use:

    SMS,GENISIS,SNES,NES,N64,PG ENGINE,MAME,NEOGEO,ATARI,GAME GEAR,GAMEBOY

    p.s. - i own the consoles too ;)

does anyone recommend a controller that works good w/ these old school type games??

i bought some PS2 lookin controllers from circuit city and they dont really work well w/ emulators for systmes like the NES or SNES

I emulate NES, SNES, GENESIS, N64, PSX, PS2, and oddly working out Dreamcast.

    Everything runs just fine.

ROMS are legal if you own the copy of the actual video game.

ROMS can be downloaded just about anywhere on the internet, including P2P and bit-torrent.

I've never been much of a console guy but I'll turn on my snes emulator for final fantasy or chrono trigger if I've got nothing else to do. Nintendo is good for contra and that's about all I use it for... N64 I have some half played Zelda: OoT games, Mario, and Super Smash Bros but I haven't picked them back up in at least two months.

Just started fiddling with playstation but I'd love to get it working and get FF7, FFT and Star Ocean games going.

How does the PS2 emulator run? i hear it only runs a handful of games and is pretty choppy

I have a ps2 and hardly play it anymore because i just dont have anywhere to hook it up (i dont own a tv at college) and it would be great if i could just play it on my pc

I mostly emulate Nintendo systems, SNES, N64, and a game boy advance one just to play Zelda Minnish Cap.

Well, I dont see why not, as long as the emulator supports it. There may be some problems with some games if they use a different programming engine, but I dont you'll run into those problems.

The Alpha Burn emulator is pretty cool, I dont think its a console emulator though...

The PS2 emulator PCSX2, which I think is the best PS2 emulator, does not support God of War 1 or 2 yet. Check the website for which games work, just click on the compatibilty header and search for the game. I'm playing Resident evil 4.
