I have one single issue with Windows 7, and it's about overclocking. In XP, I could just do the coolbits registry tweak, set the value to 3, and have overclocking with the Nvidia Control Panel. However, try as I might , I can't get it to work in Windows 7. I do NOT want to use Rivatuner, due to UAC issues.
Does anyone have a possible solution? I'm using the drivers automatically downloaded via Windows Update for my 7600 Go. Any help would be appreciated.![]()
Google was no help....

No one knows a good way to overclock in Windows 7?

Disable UAC or use task manager to start rivatuner.
Maybe also try a different driver (vista drivers work fine with 7). -
I could never get the task manager thingy to work. It's kind of complicated...
Maybe I'll try the Vista drivers. I refuse to disable UAC. -

Yeah I was never a fan of task manager either.
But if the vista drivers wont work I guess it's the only option.
Any chance that ATI tool works for you?
Because it works for my Nvidia GPU (quadro nvs 130m, like 8400m G).
This also might be an option (Bypass UAC for just one program):

NVidia System Tools? And the latest Forceware drivers.
System tools allows you to overclock from the NVidia control panel, but the latest Forceware drivers have to be installed. -

it will... for sure

Darn, the NVIDIA driver search on their website isn't working. I tried to manual update through windows device manager. Says I'm updated...so I'm giving the system tools a try.
*crosses fingers*
If anyone else knows a good place to get updated drivers, please post. -

I'm sorry to keep bothering you guys, but how do I find the drivers for my card? I didn't see a search on there. Or will any forceware drivers work?
I need to restart, but I don't think this is working with the drivers I got from Windows Update. -

Try here... Or better yet, what's your card? -
O crap, this isn't good. I installed the software with the driver I had, and now Aero is disabled, and the screen is all choppy. I have the 7600 Go. Should I uninstall the software, or just system restore?
The overclocking isn't available either still, so this obviously didn't work, guess I had the wrong forceware drivers...:/ -

Sometimes mine does that, and all I have to do is go to the personalization control panel and select any Win7 aero theme.
-
O wait, I think it did work!!!
I had to enable the Nvidia performance mode by hitting the "I agree" thingy. Then it switched back to the Aero and it's not being a POS anymore. And...I can overclock!!!
Thank you so much!!!! I'm gonna rep you to death. -
The only thing that sucks is, when I right click the desktop and click on the "Nvidia Control Panel", it doesn't have the same options as when I manually go to the start menu and click on it. Why is that? Not a huge deal I guess.
EDIT: Nvm, it won't let me overclock, it says that the changes are invalid. Darn. Time to start over... -
Just disable UAC. You really won't be missing anything. If you're paranoid about security, a good antivirus and firewall will be more than sufficient. I have disabled UAC every time I have installed Windows Vista or 7, and have not had any issues with security.

However, I still wanna make sure I have the right driver. I still can't find it. The newer GeForce drivers say that they are only for desktop GPU's. Unless I'm just confused somehow (possible). Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong/find it for me? Pretty please?
EDIT: Is this it? http://downloads.guru3d.com/GeForce-181.71-Windows-7-32-bit-download-2194.html -

Yea, the NVidia driver search is down, so you got to know where to look on there..lol They have an obscure way to get here ... but here they are. btw.. i'm assuming you're on 7 32bit... if not here's 64bit.

I will also try the 6.02 version of that other program.
