    Ej guyz,

I'm looking for the coolest drivers around. Since I only use my notebook as a mediacenter nowadays, I'm not really looking for max. ingame performance - just stability AND the cooler the better.

I'm currently running DOX 185.68 drivers - but I got the feeling they do run hot. My system never dips below 70C in Windows.. so that ain't too cool. I've already cleaned the vents and all - so ya don't need mention it :)

Any tips on which drivers I should check out?

    Thx!

Must be something else wrong with your temps. The drivers can't the reason alone for such high temps. I use the latest 185.85, there is a new DOX version as well but I haven't tried them yet and the laptop runs normal.
Maybe you can put some Arctic Silver 5 on the GPU core or the memory chips. Have you install the latest BIOS for your laptop? The last BIOS update deals with a thermal issue I think but you should check in Dell's website.

185.xx versions are really very hot i get with from 5 to 10 deg. more then anyother driver version like 179.xx or 182.xx so if you want little cooler driver you can install 182.46 DOX or 182.50 from laptopvideo2go.com they run really cool compare to 185.xx version

    Thx for the reply.

Yes, the latest (A12 I think) bios is installed. The high temps are from the gpu core, since that is the only thing I can measure using Rivatuner.

When I play a game temps get really like, like 90C. Strange thing is I don't see any artifacts or something. The fan is kinda loud though.

I leave my lit closed, because I use the HDMI out to my TV [I don't need the laptop screen]. But this shouldn't cause the temps to rise, right?

Thanks - I'll try 182.50 and see if it helps.

185.85 causes the refresh rate on my external to set to 25mhz on every restart.. weird

I tried 182.50, as well as the Dell M1530 drivers (seem to be really old) and they both disappointed me. Numerous options were gone concerning the HDMI-out and temps didn't seem lower.

I now run the latest DOX (updated 185.85) and all the HDMI-out options are back. Seems fine so far, although I kinda worry about my temps. It's around 70 degrees when idle..

You guys think I should contact Dell about that?

70 degrees is too hot to be normal at idle. Plus reaching 90 is getting close to the danger zone.. It isn't the drivers alone that's for sure. If your vents are clean, you have latest bios and your laptop is laying on a solid flat surface, then there is something wrong with your notebook :)
You might wanna check if there is overheating problems in the dell forum aswell.
Also might wanna check your others temps. You can use HWmonitor (gives gpu too).

179.48 and 185.85 are pretty nice.

I regularly hit 85C while gaming, but my GPU is one of those "could die any minute" cards, so I tend not to care. If it dies, I get a replacement for free anyway :p

    Okay.. this is really strange.

When I use my notebook without an external monitor the temps are normal. I get like around 60degrees idle. All is fine.

When I connect my laptop to my HDTV (1080p) through the HDMI-out, the GPU temp is around 73degrees idle or higher. I disable the laptop monitor when I output to my TV.

Uh... how is this possible? Does the M1530 have a hard time ouputting @1080p or something :S

I have Dell XPS M1710 with 7950GTX clocked at 650-850 and T7600G clocked at 2.83 and in games my highest temps are 85-87 idle 50-55 with external cooling that i made for the laptop gpu max temps are 65 in games so maybe it will be good to call dell

Have you tried it using the HDMI without closing the lid? Are there any vents close to the lid? While you are playing on a HDTV, do you leave your laptop in an surface where the bottom can't breath properly? (A friend on mine used to leave the laptop on his fabric armchair... D'aahh :err: of course it's gonna get hot there)
There are many threads in Dell subforum considering XPS 1530 and thermal issues though. You can have a look there. Looks like it is a common issue with this laptop. You can also use a cloth hanger (suit hanger is better as it lifts up the laptop higher) underneath your laptop so it has better airflow.
You can also use this guide
    Removing the Processor Thermal-Cooling Assembly
and apply some AS5 or TX-2 there. It should make a difference. Your laptop shouldn't have any problems with the resolution output. That would have been very weird since even integrated GPU (modern) can output easily at that resolution.

Thx Gagstaone, NKlive and KevinJack for your replies :)

@NKlive: yes, I've tried opening the lid and temps still rise to about 88degrees when playing a game (no OC). Idle it seems a little cooler, but hey.. shouldn't be that hot when gaming either.
I appreciate the suggestion about lifting the notebook, to gain airflow.. but I don't want to have to do that. It shouldn't be necessary; I'm not OC'ing. It should stay well under 80degrees when gaming - therefor I've decided to contact Dell:

I've contacted Dell and after mailing the diagnostic report (which were 100% clean) they offered me to replace the motherboard and heatsink. Great service - thx Dell!

I'm gonna wait and see what that does. Hope it resolves the heat problems.

Is powermizer working? Check your clocks using GPU-Z when you're idle. That could explain the high temperatures. I know that powermizer doesn't work with some random drivers.

But I don't want powermizer to work, because of downclock issues it may cause.

Disabling powermizer doesn't cause my GPU to reach 90degrees ingame does it?
