    hi guys :D

i got a problem with my graphics card on my hp pavilion dv9000.I use a zalman nc2000 cooler and i undervolted my cpu.Cpu never passed 74C.

But even i use a cooling pad and i have done undervolting i found out that my gpu's temperture is 85.(87 at max load).I checked the temps with hwmonitor.

I have done lots of things to cool my notebook.

    1-Bought a zalman nc2000 cooler.
    2-Undervolted my cpu.
    3-Opened nvidia power minimizer.
    4-Updated my nvidia driver.
    5-Cleaned my fan and dust.

Even with these things 87C is not a good result for me.I am not planning to change my notebook.

So do you know any other things to cool down this gpu card.

    I have some few idea(s)

1-Applying artic silver 5 to cpu and gpu.
    2-Removing battery.
3-Hacking fan speed.(Morol Hazard is working for this)

So do if you have any ideas please post!!

Also cant we modify our laptops heatsink?Isnt there better meterial for that?

Not really, the heatsink design is generally specific to each notebook.

Some manufacturers that used 8600Ms released bios updates to keep the fans on full all the time.

In all fareness notebooker, your temperatures are good for GPU, the CPu is warmer then i am use to but both in optimal temperature levels,

I can suggest a couple of actions here for maximum coolness.

    1) Artic Silver 5, as suggested or ICD7, which is a very efficient crystal compound i believe.

    2) Is your battery getting hot? because you are considering removing it im wondering if you have some issues with it, mine never gets hot although i do use it when its removed.

    3) Get some sticky back plastic, one sided, and cover air holes on the zalman to fire stronger air at your machines vents.

    4) In project freeze the users talked about using RAM heatsinks to let heat bleed onto, i believe this worked rather well so you could consider buying a few of them and using them with an adhesive compound.

    5) Speed fan idea is ok, but i wouldn't really mess with that just incase something goes wrong, the notebook is assigning RPM to the fan properly isnt it? and have you cleaned the machine recent?

    6) Prompt it up, lots of airflow :).

I hope some of these suggestions will come in quite handy, but you've really got your tasks sorted quite well, you know what you could do and that.

Let me know how it comes on, the 8600m range is classed as semi defective though, and as stated above, manufacturers do offer bios updates to cool it more.

thanks you 3 :D for your help.

okay i did what i could do so far.I dont have anything to do more actually.Later i will apply artic silver 5.

Back plastic and covering zalman's holes is a good idea but my hp only has a 1 vent so it wont work much.

I dont know how to update bios i dont even have a idea about it.How can i update it?

I got a pavilion dv9000 but hp manufactured thousands of pavilion dv9000.

Mine has 2.4ghz t7700 2 gb stock ram 250X2 hard disck and fingerprint reader :D

Well if your up for the task, you could drill a series of holes (with a great deal of research) in the bottom of your machines, (take it appart first though).

The bios can either be both ways, easy or hard and may either require a manual flash or can be done through a launcher by them.

Try input or live scan your machine here (although i'd do both incase the live scan is wrong.)

These GPUs are problematic and a lot of users already complain about it.
My friend geforce 8400M GS got toasted as well.
    Undervolt CPU - Done
    Cooler - Done
    Dust - Done
    PowerMizer - Done
    Driver - Done
Undervolt GPU - YOU NEED THIS!

Undervolt GPU is harder, you need some software to flash the BIOS of your GPU.
Moreover, flashing of BIOS can be dangerous for newbies or unlucky.

9-series Nvidia geforce GPUs are better. Because the Overheat problem has been fixed.
8-series nvidia geforce GPUs always love overheating.

I wouldnt undervolt GPU though, its so risky.

If you go too low through the bios flash, you risk the card.

Not really, in most editors you can leave the boot clocks unmodified.

    I don't consider it risky.

There has been problems undervolting the 8600m GT though. I'll have to look into that.

That is true, as long as it can achive a stable post its very good.

I wouldnt think thered be 8600m gt problems though? prehaps lowering clocks instead of the undervolt if its problematic.
