Does anyone know if it is possible to copy my World of Warcraft program folder on my old laptop running Windows XP to my new Laptop running Vista 64 and have it actually work without using the discs?

The reason I am asking is cause I am not at home atm and don't have my WoW discs with me to install it on my new laptop... I am having my wife mail me the discs for WoW and BC but hate to do a new install and worry about downloading updates on the 128kb connection I am forced to live with over here.

Something tells me it is probably not possible but thought I would ask. I am pretty hardware savy, but when it comes to the intricacies of software I dont mess with it a whole lot.

    thanks

I'm pretty sure you can do this actually, IIRC WoW does not have any dependencies on the registry.

yeah at 128kb on a good day, it takes forever to download anything here in Afghanistan...

Sad to say but having my wife download it at home and then mailing it to me would be quicker than downloading patches here.

Yes. you will have NO problem doing this at all..

I take my WoW install with me every where I go on an external drive. That way, no matter whos computer I'm on, I will always have MY WoW with my mods. Works fabulously.

The only trouble, for some reason, I ever had was with the Frozen Whatever update they released a few weeks ago. If couldnt find the game and there by wouldnt install the patch after download and I didnt know how to force an install. I'm sure someone smarter then me could have figured it out, but I tried several things to no avail. I had to download the entire game and reinstall it. But that was the first and only time I have EVER had a problem with it. I had been carrying that install around with me for a good 3 years.

    Hope that helps..

Confirmed, have mine on an external drive, just in case and it's never failed.

Here is the way to install WoW patches to a "copy WoW"

    1. Find a site to download WoW patch
    -I use (strategyinformer.com/pc/patches/worldofwarcraft/patch.html)

    2. After download is done, unzip it and drag the file into ur wow folder with wow.exe

    3. click the patch :D

Note: one problem with this is that you always have to click the agreement thing you that get when you install patches
