    depends on the game

some games are coded to use both cores the same
and some are coded to use one core first (to its limits).. then let the second core handle whats left over.

    there isn't a noticable difference

older games that were coded for single cores... will only use one core no matter what

I've heard some game called "The World At War", or something like that only uses one core and its a new game.

check yourself, load call of duty...hop in a server ( or play SP) the alt+tab, task manager> performance. There will be two square grids (if you have a dual core cpu) see how call of duty 4 is affecting each by looking at the graph.

XP actually isn't fixed for dual core unless you download the hotfix.

i play HoI2 a rather cpu intensive game (when you own half the world) and it only uses one core. i have a quad core and it uses about 80% of the first core.

I never needed to install the hot fix. My dell xp comes with sp2, and while I am not sure if the fix is built in I looked in the installed programs window and was unable to locate the specific hotfix. Up to then, I noticed no strangeness of programs not using both cores. Upon installing the hotifx, I saw no performance gains, so I guess its a millage may very thing.

Well, remember, alot of normal programs are just single core. So you won't really see one.
