I m playing games so i guess i ll ask this in the game forum

Which one should i get, theres the 1.66ghz Core Duo, and 1.66ghz for Core 2 Duo.

    100 dollar difference, worth it?

    Please explain.

If i only need the normal, i would just use the money for 2 gig ram upgrade ^o^

Spend the $100 extra and get the Core 2 Duo. Down the road then you have an extra $100 buy another 1GB of memory. When that time comes, you just came out with both things you wanted.

I've heard in various task's core 2 duo beats core duo by about 10%. and perhaps one day we'll get useful 64-bit programs. also try to get the 600 fsb cpu, some are 533

the only real difference is the duo is 32 bit and the duo2 is a 64 bit... so unless you get 64 bit games programs drivers and os it wont do you much good to get the core duo 2

I'd say keep the $100. The difference between the two in practical terms won't be noticeable and the only real advantage core 2 duo has over core duo (apart from the very slight speed increase) is 64 bit capability. This will only play a part if you definintely intend to get windows vista before replacing the laptop.

I would say definitely get the 2Gb ram with your money. That difference in performance will be noticeable in the OS and in games, especially newer more powerful ones.

For $100, it's not worth it. The Core 2 is faster, but in most cases, you won't need that. And you can get more performance by spending the $100 elsewhere anyway.

I think you mean 667 not 600 and in any case there isn't any core 2 duo processors that come with the 533 bus speed.

They should be priced the same. At least, Intel sells them for the same price. So you may just get a deal on the Core Duo. At 1.66GHz though, the Core 2 doesn't have the larger cache, so you won't see quite as large a difference as you would with a 2GHz or faster C2D. I'd stick with the Core Duo (if that's your budget) and get more RAM and a faster hard drive.
