Alright, to start off, I know this is my first post, and i registered here to see if you guys could help me.
Okay, I currently have a AlienWare Area-51 M7700 and i am having a couple of issues with Counter-Strike 1.6, the problem is that i have fps drops every now and then, i would start the game, start playing with 100fps, then boom, it drops down to 70-99, but it doesnt feel like its 99, I've noticed that i walk slower, when i pull my knife out and hold left click it only slashes once every 4-5 seconds, when i shoot theres a half a second delay between each shot and it is just like really slow in general.
EDIT* - I have also noticed that Counter-Strike 1.6 eats up ALOT of CPU, and it confuses me because a year and a half ago I had an old Compaq and ran CS at around 2-4 CPU.
EDIT2* - Whenever I get a FPS drop, right when its gonna happen my sound like spazzes out its like a weird sound, then i just walk slow and shoot slow and all the things i mention above, my GPU temp gets right under 80 (78-79) and then it just randomly goes back up, then drops again, its really irritating.

Please help me in any kind of way.

Update your drivers. Check out laptopvideo2go.com, and download 174.74. I had extremely good performance with them.
Download the Driver, along with the "Modded .inf".
Once the download is done, drag the modded .inf into the driver folder, so it "over-writes and replaces" the original .inf.
Uninstall old drivers, reboot, reinstall new drivers!
Good luck! -
I love you, your the best man!
-
I'm drunk. Yeah, drunk. -
I'd actually recommend downloading 175.19 instead of 174.74. I don't think people having technical issues should use beta drivers unless there are no other options. And technically 175.19 are Nvidia's most recent official release.
Sounds to me like you have the game set on software rendering. You need to go into the visual settings and make sure it is set to D3D hardware rendering instead. Otherwise your videocard is just sitting idle as your CPU does all the work.
But that said...KGANN, I thought WE were going out tonight!? -
i had the same kind of problem until i switched drivers. my fps would go like a rollercoaster, in that, it would start at 100 then drop down to 30 then go back up to 100. it did so in a constant smooth motion, but it really screws around with gameplay. basically my fps looked like a sine wave.
-
And shhh... I got the reservations made, but you can't let everyone know! They will get jealous of my large...
Foot. -
Ohh, I was using the OpenGL option, so i should go and set it to D3D?
-
For consistencies sake, after downloading the 175.19 driver from laptovideo2go.com (follow KGANN's instructions above), set it to D3D and see if that fixes the issue. -
Oh alright ill do that right now.
EDIT*
I dont see
nVidia Geforce Go 7800 GTX
I just see
nVidia Geforce 7800 GTX
is there a big difference when installing drivers?
EDIT2*
Also, should I download the Modded INF from 175.16? -
Download the modded .inf. Is it not on the 175.19 page? (Should be right next to "Driver")
-
Ouch. PM "The Forerunner", he should able to help you. Or ask about it in this thread.
-
Ok, I asked about it in the thread, but for some reason its not allowing to me to PM him otherwise i would =/
-
He may have PM turned off, but someone will help you with an .inf in there!
-
Hmm, i did a little searching and found this
v175.95 XP 32Bit it supports Go 7800 GTX, what do you think, im not really an expert. -
Not too good of a driver. I agree with Storm, just wait for the 175.19 .inf. Did you try running CS in D3D mode?
-
Yeah, kind of screwed me over, OGL is better.
-
Hmm... that doesn't make any sense...
-
I was getting bad fps with d3d for some reason, it was around 70, and it wasnt that smooth 70 fps it was really choppy.
Ok for some reason, I just updated to 175.19 and Im getting bad results Im getting the ups and downs again, I was getting them with the other driver 174.74 but i was getting less, so this is really confusing. -
half-life once stated a bug with their client.
I do not know if they fixed this problem or not, but I still do it and i get better performance of 60-70 fps with my no-so-top-notch ATI 9550 and Intel Pentium 4 1.7Ghz (single core!)
to get better performance follow those steps:
1. launch the game
2. minimized the game, open Task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete)
3. Go to the "Processes" tab and find "hl.exe"
4. right click on "hl.exe" and go to "set priority" and choose "low"
this will most likely fix your lag times while pulling up a knife, shooting, or changing weapons.
try it and tell me whether it helps. (i am curious to know!)
thanks. -
Are you freaking kidding me... I was setting it to High and stuff, and then you come along and tell me to set it to low, and it actually works... wow, nows the time to figure out how to always have it set to low =P
EDIT*
Okay, why is it always when i put a message saying it helps, my fps always goes down after that, its best that i just keep my mouth shut god damn.
EDIT2* Okay Im not sure what i did or even if i did anything but my cs is running at a constant 100 fps now.
EDIT3* Nevermind. -
Awesome, glad that worked out! +Rep for YZ for the great info!
-
Haha, Yeah Im still getting the ups and downs, its just at shorter intervals of downs so its not bad, Im reformatting tomorrow anyway lol... install steam, cs, mcaffee, and all drivers and thats all i need... maybe Aim and Frostwire also =P
