Whenever I play CS:S, It's fine for the first 30 seconds and then I start getting problems. The game freezes for 2-10 seconds and my audio loops and then it just goes back to normal. It freezes a lot about once every 10 seconds and it is impossible to play the game like this. I used to be able to play CS:S perfectly on my laptop, now I have this problem. I really want to get back into CS:S, so can I please get some help? Thanks,
ElementHP
P.S. It only does this in CS:S. I play CoD2 and other games perfectly on this laptop. CS:S is the only one I am having problems with.

Hmm, someone else posted a topic exactly like this one. Check around on the Gaming section of the forums, page 2 or 3, maybe even further back.
Sorry I can't help more. I just remember that it was a heat issue? Don't quote me; I'm probably wrong. (I remember that it was due to a patch of late 2006 or something.)
Good luck! -
check the Steam forums and see if your problem is discussed there...
could it be the video settings (like openGL, etc)? just a guess. Sorry i dont play CS much anymore. -
there is a thread just like this, first thing, you said u used to be able to play it fine, meaning its just a random new problem. The consensus on the other thread was that it was a soundcard problem, which is still possible, except less likely cuz its a new problem. My advice is to go to console and type "net_graph 3"
see wats happening in that lil grouping of numbers. It checks the FPS, choke, and ping in realtime. See which is abnormal and reply.
Abnormal ping is a number jumping RELE high for short periods like in the 300s
abnormal choke is a number jumping high like in the 50s
abnormal FPS is it dropping to 0... -

I keep getting the same problem but not as often.

Go into your steam games, right click on CS:S, click properties, and then launch options. then type -dxlevel 70 include the "-" that will set your DX level lower, but will stop the freezing. Hope this solves it

Scratch that it's not the audio drivers.

- Defragment your HDD
- As Doodles said, check your ping and choke aren't too high by using ''net_graph 3'' and typing that into the console. Choke will naturally be high when there is lots of action on screen. Ideally, it should be 0 when there little happening.
- Make sure there are no applications hogging your connection's bandwith
- Check your settings match those of the server (this is automatically done to some extent).
- Lower your video settings. -
Well I found out what the problem was. It was actually my video drivers. It works perfectly now
