I just purchased a Dell E1505 and wanted to play CS source on it so i got the ATI X1400 Graphics card, 1 gb of ram and 1.66ghz duo core processor. My frames per sec in game at <15. Why is it so poor? can i do anything about this?
-
Well, are you trying to play the game at max settings or is this happening at low video settings? You probably won't get away with the highest settings on that rig, so if you have them cranked up tweek em down a bit. Other than that I can suggest updating your video card drivers (they are probably up to date and working, but just eliminate the possibility). And if this seems like "no duh" kinda stuff, sorry.
-
ya, i have them on medium/low and i dont know if i need any updating for the drivers...

well I think it's because of the ATI X1300.. it sucks for new games .. you can only play cs2 at lower settings..
having said that, I do believe though that 15fps would be too low no matter what card you got in there.. I mean wtf on my old PIII 450Mhz which hosts a 16mb video card I got more fps lol
so what you gotta do is check for latest drivers for your card..
another idea would be to overclock your video card - but only if you know what your doing and what it means in terms of cooling/heating risks.. -
Okay, I have the same system you have, except I have an X1400. People told me **** like it won't play the game.
My computer plays it at 100-120 fps on lowest settings. I get 30 on highest. No need to have it that high.. I get around 70 on everything up except pointless ****.
You most likely have certain settings waaay too high. So set everything to the lowest settings and if you get good play-ability then add some of those things back slowly and find out what you are doing wrong. I have a good idea what it is.. but you should find out your self.. -
-
ok its 3 am so tommorow i will see what my FPS are at lowest settings possible. Thanks for all the help SO FAR guys
-
i'll install css tomorrow, too. i'll let you know how it goes on mine (i got the x1400 instead of the x1300, tho, but it'd still be a decent comparison)
-
opps, im sorry i did get the x1400 hyper memory, i just did low for everything and got an average of 20 fps. I still think thats weak....

The X1300 is not a strong performer, but should at least be able to put up a decent framerate in CS:S. Make sure that AA is off. Also, go into your video card's control panel and make sure that your power settings are set to max. performance on AC power.
-
guys guys, i have the X1400
-
Check to make sure ur performance settings are not under battery saving, becuase that will throttle down ur cpu and maybe gpu, which will cause ur games to suffer. Make sure all ur drivers and clocks are up to par.
-
ok, but i cant seem to find any of the programs for the card under the icon toolbar. Can anyone tell me where i can find it?
-
ok, i downloaded the catalyst multimedia center and set all the things to PERFORMANCE rather than QUALITY and i only get 25 FPS. I dont understand, my desktop is Pent D, RADEON x800 pro, and 1 gb of ram, and i get like 60 fps. My laptop is 1.66 gHz duo core, 1gb of ram, and x1400 video card.
-
Then ur definately settin the settings way to high in that game, as an x1400 should be able to handle source games better than 25fps. And the x800 is better than ur laptop gpu, so u cant compare with that
-
I have a nVidia GeForce Go 32MB...I manage to play CSS on it...15fps....
I think that's fine for flawless gameplay...you're expecting too much with your GPU -
Download, install and run 3DMark05 and/or 3DMark06. Post the scores you get. Make sure in the video card driver settings (Catalyst Control Centre) that anti-aliasing (AA) and anisotropic filtering (AF) are turned off. And you have installed the latest Catalyst 6.7? Here's the link incase you don't: www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst
Also, what resolution are you playing at? -
Alot of these comments are helping him (Liz Mayz). The X1400 should be able to handle that game no problem. I have an X700 pro (which is VERY similar in preformance to the x1400) in my desktop (same amount of ram, P4 2.6ghz) and I can play the game no problem on highest settings, so he should have no trouble with the x1400 at even medium settings. Try updating your drivers (idk if you did or didn't, or they are up to date, so humor me). If that doesn't help contact steam support and see what they have to say about it (that is probably a better bet than asking here).

Wow, an X1400 should be running CSS on medium high with 30+ fps, somethings wrong with your comp, its not your GPU, if BF2 can run on medium with an X1400.
-
i got a radeon 9700 ... everything on high except for textures and AA off
-
well, if something is wrong with my comp, what should i do? i could reformat i guess...but wouldnt that just restore it to how dell gave me the laptop?
-
these are my exact laptop specs. I am really getting ticked off at this cause im a starter in Cal-IM and im heading to college and need to adjust to my laptop before i leave, should i try overclocking using the ATI tool, or the power strip thing i saw.

At this point, you should consider formatting your system - use SG's Windows reinstallation guide:

i think im having the same crappy performance and Im in the same situation as him, I got this laptop going into my second year and im leaving my desktop at home for my mom. All i wanna do is play css casually once in a while but not with such crappy performance.
-
Yeah, I have the x1100 which to stop any confusion is based off of the x200m series. Also I'd like to follow up with moderate settings for this card for some games even 1280x800 resolution with no anti aliasing or antistropic filtering on some games including world of warcraft aren't bad. Fear,Prey, even or anything on the source engine at 640x480 with everything set to minimum may get you 30FPS. It's terrible.
