I just bought this game a few days ago, I dont have Highspeed internet yet but am getting it in the near future. Ive been playing against the bots and have binded fast buying keys. Any other tips I should get packed down before going on the net?
-
-
Yeah, dont act like you are awsome at the game. Because once you go into a server and get owned.... you will feel like an idiot. AND dont give up, because when you start playing, you will suck, but you will become better.
-
yeah i still have a bit of trouble beating the bots 8 on 8 on normal...but im getting better every day..i play at least an hour every day after school and a lot during the weekend.
-
-
Actually is really unhealthy.. i used to play 10hours a day... well, my only tip to become the best, follow them, learn from them... know ur map, know ur weapon... and dun give up even u get pwn on the 1st day.. (i got owned totally last time, but now.. i m kinda neutral, frag = death)
-
is it true that you should get good with the scout rifle because the magnum (awp?) is sometimes banned in the games?
what made counter strike prevail over all the other half life mods? all i can remember is Team Fortress but I know there was at least 1 more. -
Yes, in CS you want to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. The scout is incredibly effective once you get the hang of no-scoping. Just don't rush anybody with it at the beginning of a round.
Also, try not to run right behind a teammate. Too easy to block each other, and you won't see anything right in front of your teammate. -
any tips on no-scoping? is it effective?
-
Too pro at source just buy my steam account and have cal-i proof and you will be godlike. What you must do it use grenades to you advantage as well as learn the sounds of the game. Try to predict players behavior so you are prepared for them, although you will have to wait until you're online to do this. I can also suggest using angles and corners to your advantage because that will give you the upper hand. Practice your spray patterns too because if you ever get in a situation where there are more enemies that a controlled burst can kill an accurate spray would really help. To do this just load up a map and shoot at a wall and look at the bullet patterns. Do it again and pull down slightly and keep on adjusting your pull down until the majority of bullets end up in the same place. To improve your game more quickly then playing in public servers is too go on mIRC on the gamesurge channel and just spam as a ringer in #sourceringer. This will let you play with a team for a scrimmage against another team and if you are lucky not only will the experience improve your play but your teammates will help you and give some advice on what to improve. I could also help you out in the not so distant future because I am stuff on dial-p right now. I have played counter strike since WONID and I would say I have been successful. Hopefully some of this helped. And what I would say the best thing for improvement is finding healthy competition. GL HF.

Well since I started typing I noticed a few more posts and I would have to say that no-scoping with an AWP tends to be very inaccurate unless the enemy is particularly close. But with the scout it is fair game; the scout tends to show little signs of recoil therefore making it easier to hit an enemy moving. You also have to remember that aiming is more accurate crouching then standing and even less accurate while moving. And one final thing is that you should set you rates to in your console as rate 25000, cl_updaterate 100, cl_cmdrate 100; I believe those are the commands bare with me I haven't played since I got dial-up.
-
what do these "rates" do? and how do i aim while no-scoping with the scout? just go with the middle of my screen?
-
Yes use the middle of you screen and rates are what you computer receives and sends to the server you are playing in. When in spawn try to find the middle of your screen so you where a crosshair would lie if it wasn't visible. The when you have no crosshair you will have a better change of hitting the enemy. Also aiming for the neck is the best bet because it practically does the same damage as a headshot and by the third bullet in a burst would hit the crown of the head resulting in a BOOOOOM HEADSHOT.
-
some tips for CS:S that i can give are:
- dont stand in one spot too long
- move around
- fire bursts of 3-4 shots at a time with weapons (except scout and sniping weps obviously)
- dont act like a jacka**
- choose a server u like, add it to your favs, and make friends there (makes the game a lot more enjoyable)
- dont camp on cs maps as a ct
- dont camp on de maps as a t
- last but not least...HAVE FUN!
heres the server i play on (its my clans server, rly great) come join: 66.150.214.32:27015 -
how practical is playing cs on dial up?
-
Never stay still when you play - you'll be dead in seconds. Aim for the head. Never hold your finger down and put the weapon in auto. You'll be wasting ammo that won't hit your target. Instead, do 1-2 shot snipes.
-
Ok first of all bots arent that good...I mean I played for about 3 years (upgraded from 1.6 -> source) and didn't feel like playing online cause it seems so different (new physics and maps etc..) and I played on hard it a bit easy but extreme the bots get headshots on 4/5 kills and their reaction time is un-human like...so when I try online it I got owned really bad cuz I was too use to dumb bots. I was shocked at how different it was to play with people and how hard it was. Try and find some newb severs? and learn from your mistakes (lol)?
BTW: IMO FAMAS' burst fire is great for long ranges. -
I use the automatic shotgun to perfect results. I always run around in tight rooms, corners, etc. Anyone within 30 feet is automatically killed. Obviously open areas are a NO NO for me. If I need to move through a wide dangerous area I switch to the .50 cal pistol.
Another great gun: FAMAS.
Never use noob guns: Anything with a scope + crosshair.
You'll fool yourself thinking you're good at CSS. -
what gun is the famas?
-
Famas is the fourth gun in the rifles section(B 4 4). Counter Strike 1.6 on dial-up isn't horrible but there no chance of playing big servers or doing well competitively. Counter Strike Source on dial-up is almost impossible because it requires more from your connection then cs 1.6 would.
-
"Never use noob guns: Anything with a scope + crosshair."
I can at least say that I am not a "noob" and I use the Krieg weapons (commando, 550, DAU) whenever I can. They do the job that they're supposed to. No point in calling their users "noobs" -
i like the m16 the best.. does the silencer make it less damaging?
-
Yes putting the silencer on an m4 makes the gun gives a smaller damage amount. It also makes it less accurate but only by a slight amount. But even though it does less damage don't immediately keep your gun stock. Advantages of a silenced weapon is stealth to a certain amount and although it does less damage its practically unnoticeable so I wouldn't worry about it. Just use whatever you feel comfortable with and the best gun in the game is the AK-47 because you can get armored kills with 1 bullet and the burst accuracy is supreme. Oh and the gun is cheappppppp
-
Is it me or does it seem like there is a lower ROF when you use the silencer on the M4? also the M4 seems a bit more inaccurate at longer ranges compared to most other rifles such as AK-47, IDF, FAMAS, etc..
-
It gives the same rate of fire but it may seem that is it slower because the noise is less prevalent especially if you are running and shooting it. As for accuracy in a prone position, best determining position, the rifles in order of most accurate to least would be m4, ak, famas, defender (This is ignoring scoped weapons)
-
when you put the silencer on the m421 it makes it slightly less accurate at long range
but it does provide stealth and no flash when you shoot
it also lessens recoil
and as for tips your really just going to have to play for a while but if you play a lot you should learn fast
oh and get rid of that dial up asap -

1) Keep playing it when you can but not to the point of excess-don't play for consecutive 3 hours without having a break because that will worsen your performance. Practice makes perfect and is perhaps the best way to get decent
2) Try to be proficient with all the weapons, but namely the AK (CV 47) or the M4A1 depending on your preference. The AK has the worst recoil (NEVER spray with this gun unless you're practically in stabbing distance from your enemy) of the weapons but it packs an instant headshot kill and is very stable in 2/3 shot bursts. The m4 is more newbie friendly as its spray is more closely concentrated. Don't spray at long distances though. It doesn't kill in 1 headshot though, only doing ~85 damage but bursting should kill instantly. The silencer reduces an insignificant amount of damage at very long distances, not sure about effects on accuracy. No scoping is not perfectly accurate. The scout in fact isn't perfectly accurate whilst standing but is only really most noticable at very long distances.
3) Learn the maps. Know where all the nooks and crannies are. Check all the camping spots.
4) I personally would say avoid the autoshotty because the damage it does is randomised significantly. Sometimes you'll kill in 2 shots and other times in 5 at the same distance at the same target.
5) Don't go solo unless the opposing team has been diminshed sufficiently and/or you're confident about the enemy's position.
6) DON'T BLOCK YOUR TEAM MATES! This is often the least understood issue with newbies
7) USE THE RADAR! Its there for good reason
More stuff I'll add later when I can be bothered -
AUG, Commandos arent really noob guns, maybe ur not used to it yet. At long range it fairs better than the M4 just becoz u know where u r shooting. I never use M4 wif silencer coz it'll reduce the power of the M4, like wise i only need 3 shots to kill on non silencer and 5 on silence... U ll be godlike wif the M4 if u are good with the AK47, their plain badass, 2 shot kills but it goes wild if u hold it for 3 shots or more...

dont mess with people, and you should be fine. also, be SURE not to boast in your abilities, because you WILL get shot, and you WILL be humiliated
-
Dude, auto shotty is a noob gun... Run around cs_office with the pump shotty and then I'll be impressed.
Ok, advice to learn:
Stay away from the rifles in the beginning. No colt, no ak, just get used to pistols and SMG's at first. Play close quarters maps like office and italy.
MP5 will get you started nicely. It's not too currency consuming which is good because you won't be used to the money system at first. P90 is fun but not necessary and the Mac and TMP are great once you have the game down.
Once you can break even in the majority of games upgrade to the rifles and play with them until about the same ability as SMG's. I think the absolute best rifle map is assault with the dusts running a close second. They have a great mix of close distance combat.
Colt: Play without the silencer. I don't care what anyone says, the only use for the silencer is stealth and you'll need stopping power when you start. Train yourself to aim for the head and fire in two or three shot bursts.
AK: Teach yourself to pull down slightly when you fire because the AK has more kick and 1 shot bursts are terrible at close/medium range. At long range teach yourself to fire 1 bullet at a time and aim for the head (well, neck, the hitboxes are a bit goofy).
Then play with the Scout and learn it well. You really won't find much use for it in general play but it helps you learn where to aim for headshots because they are necessary to succeed with the scout. Once again, assault is great but compound may be better.
Don't stand still or crouch when you use the scout. Learn to take a shot, strafe, then take another shot. You don't need to crouch, you don't need to stop for more than a split second for a straight shot and you can use the same move and fire formula for distance with rifles.
If you're like me a year has passed and now you're only moderately good at the game... Pump shotty and TMP/Mac skill is necessary because the pump is practically an instant kill if you know how to use it and the TMP/Mac are headshot machines on certain maps. -
I'll use the auto shotgun on any map and still be in the top 3 players.
I live by this gun and the Eagle!
But I do use the FAMAS 30% of the time. -
i love scout + 5-7
learn to love Q, for me (WASD here), Q switches weapons to my previous weapon.
WATCH YOUR RADAR
DO NOT TEAM FLASH (read, WATCH YOUR RADAR)
if FF (friendly fire) is on, DO NOT SHOOT/NADE your team
DONT CAMP
setup buy keys
learn to rush fast (i am usually CT on d2, flashing long A twice before any CT can catch up to me)
flashbangs are good...IF you know how to use them
if you snipe, love smoke nades..they save lives
HAVE FUN..its just a game..
ill think of more.. -
Maybe it's just my mouse, but whenever I "tap click" for a single shot with the AK, 90% of the time it comes out as a two to three shot burst. Thus my one-shot rates are pretty bad, as CS:S will actually decrease the accuracy of the first bullet because of this. (I know, it kind of sucks, but I didn't feel like shelling out $70 for a gaming mouse. Oh well...)
As a result I rely more on the M4's accurate spread and the P90's larger magazine to compensate. Pwning with the M3 in small or enclosed maps is awesome too, aim for center of mass. -

Must be your fingers then Gator
. When I started off using my v270 for gaming I thought it was fine-until I got the G5. In my experience it makes a big difference and helps improve consistency. To me, its analogous to buying a proper cue for pool/billiards/snooker in order to get better and more consistent. Keep your eye out for bargains.
To the OP: the advice so far should give you the framework on which to get better. Most importantly, just have fun.
