    Hi.

Just recently when playing Counter Strike source the frame rate would go all the way from 60+ down to 20-30 or below, sometimes even the 10's range and stay there no matter what.
Usually before I would of got 60+ constant with my laptop, it's a shame this started to happen. I have the latest drivers for my GPU and checked the temperatures of my CPU & GPU which are both in the 50c's while gaming, highest I've seen being were in the 60's. However even if i have air conditioning on and with a fan right next to me giving me frost bites the problem will still occur even if the temperatures of the GPU and CPU are in the low 50c's. I thought these temperatures were not considered overheating ;3

Any solutions how to fix this problem?

    specs;

    I3 350M 2.2ghz
    Nvidia GT 330M
    4GB DDR3 RAM

have you installed anything like an antivirus recently or something that can take quite a bit of CPU usage if it starts a background task?

possibly the latest drivers have bugs in them, have u tried reverting back to an older driver that worked better?

    virus?

    various other possibilites....

The latest Source update for CSS destroyed performance, (Orange Box engine) so im curious if you played CSS on that notebook before they rolled out the "Mac" update?

Either way im hoping Valve will do some optimizing because my desktop went from 300+ fps (When i unchecked VSync) to 100+ fps just because a update.

    Specs:
AMD Phenom II x2 555 BE @ 3.2 GHz (Unlocked to quad and minor OC)
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 1gb GDDR5
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 and 2x 2gb RAM sticks

There was literally just a new update out for CSS which lowered my fps drastically this week, infact it was the same day. I've been playing last week 50+ fps without any problems. Now even all low settings I still get fps drop to 20's :(

You should try some sort of FPS limiter, and let us know if that makes a difference.

Thanks, Vsync helped me and I run at a constant 60+. I don't know what the problem was but it seemed to have resolved itself out now by setting a frame cap, thanks.
