Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone has any experience with using steam in China. It seems like it doesnt exist out here??? Most of the cyber cafe's i goto, you can play CS 1.5 or 1.6 ... but there is no steam involved, i am assuming it is either all pirated or its not required in China. I just got my own computer, so now i want them for myself.
I dont want to install steam if its going to be barely playable from the other side of the world. But i also want my other games like HL2...
Anyone know of any open source steam clients or a way to just download and install my games without steam....
Or does anyone have previous experience with playing CS on Chinese servers?
Thanks

Hmm.. Thats interesting you mention that, I live in South Korea and on the occasion when I play CS: Source or CS 1.6 from here I ALWAYS get a huge list of Chinese VAC2 secured servers to play on. Let me assure you China has steam and they are using it. I currently live in a dormitory here with around 1,000 chinese students and 1,000 Koreans probably around half of them play CS or starcraft, but your right most of this takes place in cyber cafes or (PC rooms as there known in Korea and China)
If you have a steam account you can play source in China, I'm fairly sure the old WON servers for 1.5 are gone, but you could maybe find some unoffical ones if you know where to look -
Ahh, ok... thanks guys.
Yeah, i was talking to some guys today and they told me that a majority of the people play pirated copies... including just about every internet cafe ive been to, they have some program, or something, to bypass steam in order to still play on the internet.
But im glad you know for sure that there are servers out here which i can play on so hopefully it wont be super slow connecting to the other side of the world.
Anyone know of like a open source steam client by any chance? is that even possible?
