I have a few questions related to Counter-Strike.

    1) What are the differences between CS1.6 and CS:S?
    2) What is the difference between servers for a cracked copy of CS and steam servers.
    3) Is it possible to transfer ownership of games on steam to someone else? If i sell my orange box cd with the cd key (I registered tf2 with the cd key on steam), can the other person still register it?

CS: S has a lot more to offer in the graphics department. And as long as you give the other person your steam username and password they can use that game on any computer.

The different between 1.6 and source is that source will never be as good as 1.6 is :)

Also, if you get a cracked copy of CS:S you would be able to play with it LAN and on your own with bots, but most servers have VAC and you wouldn't be able to play on those without a registered copy...

    Hope this helps! :)

Is it really worth stealing, I mean you can buy it for under $20. I bought Half Life 2 when it was a new game and it came with it and the whole package was only $20 ... so now its gotta be cheaper.

How long did you play 1.6? Or 1.5 even...

That answer is dependent on the 1.6 > source decision :p

Every version of counter-strike is way better than source

People who only played 1.6 for a short amount of time will usually say source is amazing. People who have played 1.3/1.5/1.6 will most likey have a different opinion of source :p

I have played 1.6 but i dont play it a lot....i know it is illegal to discuss but i m just saying that i got a downloaded copy of CS1.6 from somewhere and used to play it....i havent played source and havent played either of these games on source servers that is y i was asking about the cracked game and steam servers....

I havent played CS1.6 a whole lot and I heard about source having better graphics so i thought i should buy it....

Seems like everyone has a different opinion about 1.6 vs source.... Can you guys please just list the differences like better graphics, maps, gameplay, latency, servers....so that i can decide whether to buy source or not...

Thanks for all the input though.

Well since 1.6 is so old I would imagine that there are alot more servers on Source and obviously the graphics on source are much better. The gameplay is pretty much the same. But if you really want to get in on the action, Call of Duty 4 is the best way to go there.

If you can run tf2, you can run CS:S. IIRC CS:S runs faster than tf2 both set to max. Don't know about minimum though, but I think they are similar.

Cs:S runs fine even on my Geforce 6100

But the game just sucks compared to CZ or CS1.6

the gameplay is horrible...movements, hitboxes & Model skins all terrible for eSports

Well, Nocturnal says it runs on his 6100. Now, I'm sure that's at 800x600, all low, but it runs.

You could always dry DX8 mode, too. Huge performance increase.

Given the fact that CS1.6 is played way more than source as per gamespy and that 1.6 is older than source there are supposed to be way more better servers for 1.6 right?

Depends. 1.6 is a little more difficult to play, as the players are normally much better, along with the fact that there are quite a few "hackers" in 1.6.

There are quite a few servers for CZ. CZ is 1.6, with a little bit better graphics, and some new textures. It also includes single player "campaign", where you can work your way through objective-based missions.

CS:S essentially runs on high like HL2 runs on medium specs IMO.

Also, CS:S v. 1.6 there are a lot more people who play CS:S on a daily basis and thus there are a lot more servers to choose from.

But for both, there really are a lot of servers so I can honestly say you wouldn't need to worry about not finding good servers. >.<

1.6 is also harder to play because the hitboxes for headshots is smaller, so getting headshots on people in 1.6 is a LOT harder than getting a headshot in CS:S...

COD4 is much easier to play than CS:S or 1.6! I almost never get a positive score on CS:S/1.6 (usually even score) but in COD4 I can get 2:1 or maybe 3:1 KDR! I die so fast in CS:S/1.6 but that is probably b/c of COD4's regenerating HP system and I don't play Hardcore severs.
