I have played 1.6 and CZ and contrary to what most of the people say I have found CZ pretty interesting and fun.
Mostly the difference people have is between 1.6 and Source. I have played 1.6 but dont like it that much because it has really crappy graphics and maybe because I die a lot and can hardly kill anyone whereas in CZ my kd ratio is above 1 mostly.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is there a CS:S trial version somewhere so that I can try it before buying it. I wanna see what all the fuss is about as far as CS:S goes and if my laptop can handle it as it is pretty ancient. It does run TF2 on lowest settings and resolution but lags when there is a lot of action.
2. Are there any noob servers for CZ and 1.6 where I can just go play normally and learn some new stuff to play at better servers. Are there any clans for these 2 where one can play, learn and then get recruited.
Infact lemme know about these clans and noob servers for Source as well in case I end up buying it. I dont wanna create another thread for source questions.
Thanx in advance.

well, cz basically took the so called "noob" players from 1.6 because they were attracted to the graphical update, so you're left with the more hardcore players on 1.6.
i played cz sometimes because it was really easy to play (because people were terrible compared to 1.6), so me and my friend would go on cs_assault servers and have fun for a while. however, source... i didn't really like because all people do it awp, thus, eliminating all other weapons. after you get used to it (at least from transitioning from 1.6 to source), you're basically like a demi-god in that game. the aiming is much more spraying and they opened up the map to where you can basically awp everything, everywhere (like d2).
i wouldn't suggest finding an easy server to play on, but rather a server with good ping and a small number of people playing. you could also try aim maps like akcolt to get your shooting skills up. -
if you dont like awps then just go to servers where the awp and auto snipers are restricted. thats what i do. however, if you do scrims and cal and what not then all weapons are unrestricted
-
yes, but source scrims are ridiculously easy. cal took out half of the strategy involved in scrimming: money.
anyways, it's not that i don't like awps, it's that they're much easier to use now. what i'm really not fond of, is the movement and aiming. i think a graphical update would have been perfect, but the movement and aiming and accuracy of guns were much better in the previous version. -
if your comp can handle tf2, it can handle css. on my comp i get about 60fps on counterstrike source and i get about 30 on tf2 with similar setting levels
-
What are Scrims and Cal? Also I read somewhere on the forum Cal-i Cal-m and stuff, what are those?
I havent seen auto-sniping. What is that all about?
Do you guys know any good north american servers? -
If your can only 'handle' CS: Source I wouldn't suggest it cause the ever-so-slight lag will give a major disadvantage online.
However, there are plenty of other mods besides COunter-strike you can play too, may I suggest Natural Selection? Like counter-strike you got 2 opposing teams, but one is an alien-side the other Human Ops. As the aliens you can literally evolve into other aliens (to change into a flying-type, a crawler-type [i.e. running on cielings)], huge-beast type, etc.) or strengthen your current form in many ways.
As a human op you can upgrade weapons and equipment (i.e. jumper packs for flying about; or getting 'heavy armor', etc).
Both teams can set turrets up, and has a class or ability for repairing them (and healing others).
Natural Selection a free mod of Half-life. All you need is Half-life to run it; is an amazing online FPS.
Get it here (go to Files section): http://www.natural-selection.org/
