I suppose we can use this as the official thread, despite the game currently being in the beta stage.
I love the beta... anyone purchase the full game?
-
-
I'm planning on buying it. I didn't okay the beta, but saw a few you tube teleplay videos and it does look pretty sweet. I played 1.3 and CSS religiously back in the day, so GO will be a nice shot of nostalgia.
-
Definitely getting it. Also black mesa is suppose to come out soon.
-
Somewhat sad that it isn't a mix of Source and 1.6 ... but hell with it, games gotta evolve I guess
The graphical overhaul is somewhat nice I guess... gonna wait a while before purchasing, something doesn't feel right tbh -
The current "beta" is basically the full release but with a beta tag so they don't take too much crap for any problems.
You get the beta for pre-ordering, and save 10%, well worth it. I have the beta already, but earlier in development the game really kinda sucked, the current version is really good. I will be buying, not sure if I want it on PC or console though, I feel like hacks will be quite common on PC, and of course there are no hacks on 360. -
They've done an excellent job building the game. They are even including the great CSS zombie mod in final release... so yeah, no reason not buy it -
I've been playing the beta since probably the beginning of June, and while it is pretty fun for a few games, I don't think I will be buying it until it is on sale for like $2.50. I played CS on and off for years, I think starting with either 1.1 and 1.4. I didn't play CS:S that much.
-
The new matchmaking alone is worthwhile - being able to instantly enter a 5v5 without having to organise anything is a godsend.
And considering it costs less than the price of some map packs is icing on the cake. -
Bought it and liked it. It has some getting used coming from CSS to since the hitboxes are much tighter now, but the graphics overhaul is glorious, and I like how they optimized the gungame modes, in CSS usually I just play those for fun when I have half an hour to burn.
-
I played it and I think it's pretty cool. Also at $13.50 I don't see how you could not buy it, seeing as most new games come out at $60 nowadays. Look at Modern Warfare 3, It's a clone of MW2 and came out for $60. Black Ops still costs $50 new. It's really awesome of Valve to put CS:GO out for this cheap.

"soon" could easily mean 3 to 5 more years, if not longer. -
I think I started playing since beta 3 or 4. I remember waking up early on Saturdays wanting to be the first one on counter-strike.net to download the latest beta release before the download speeds goes to sh*t. Lol. Now that I'm playing CS:GO beta, I have to say it's such a throwback game. It's so reminiscent of 1.6, more than it is CS:S. The old maps I used to love playing and competing on are back!
I'm actually in the process of recruiting my old teammates so we can see if we're still good enough to compete again.
Just yesterday, I got to tweaking my config.cfg, but I can't remember half of the console commands I used back in the days. I did manage to finally get my crosshair exactly how it was back then, though. -
^Sean, what is your crosshair config? I'm tryin to figure out what works best for me.
Man, I love this game. The king of all FPS games at $13.50? Putting all the competitors to shame.
A+ to Valve and Hidden Path. -
Preordered the game.
Its friggen CS, you know its gonna be a hit on the LAN parties with friends or whatever.
Also played a bit of the beta, and so far it feels like a good balance between 1.6 and Source.
Getting around 120fps with all the eye candy on (No AA) at 1920x1080 with a i7 2720QM and a 680m at stock so i believe every modern notebook should handle it with ease.
Unless its bundled with a weak CPU that is. -
-
Preordered. Where is my silenced M4?!?! It better not be DLC...
I also miss the Compact, but I guess the starting CT gun is very similar to it.
Also, gun spray is very similar to 1.6. -
Xonar, the Silencer is gonna be in the final release as stated by Valve, no need to worry.

My reaction to CS GO is basically "meh". It seems to be basically a graphics update for CSS. There's a handful of new weapons and then you get Gungame and reverse Gungame as new modes. Doesn't seem all that exciting, and the gameplay model of CS is starting to show its age, imo. -
After the last update (2gig) many players are lauding the game as a great cross between CS 1.6 and source. Most agree it's leagues better than source.
I find the new p250 gun to be awesome; maybe better than the deagle. Maps have much better balance. heavily favored CT maps such as Aztec and Dust are much more balanced thanks to slight changes in the map structure.
All in all, for 13 bucks (pre-ordered) or 15 bucks..you can't beat it. It's still CS (if you love CS) and it will give amazing ROI for many years to come (until the next CS is released).
So if people were not a fan of CS you will likely be disappointed, or if you outgrew CS (which I understand) you will likely be disappointed. But if CS is "THE FPS" then you will likely buy and enjoy the game and quite frankly; won't spend 15 dollars in a better way all year! lol. -
Unlike Battlefield 3 (Lots of hacking) Steam with VAC banning and also active admins on the game server side cheating should not be that big of a deal in CS:GO.
It will still be there but the only real way to combat it is with a swift strike with the banhammer. -
-
Also in game Admins kick the out of you if you hack or abuse bugs, love CSS -
It is awesome to play on dedicated servers though, since admins can stop hackers with one swift swing of the ban hammer.

One more day!

Yup I am hoping it unlocks at midnight and I will just download it when I sleep. So far here are my impressions post 2gig update from Valve/Hidden Path:
1. Graphic overhaul is nice overall but some maps look pretty bad (Aztec). I am hoping that there is a "very high" texture setting not in the Beta. Much of the better graphics come from lighting and post processing. Many textures are simply just copied directly from CS:S. The new textures are dull and have me thinking there is yet another setting for textures. (strong guess). I think the game, as is, looks better than COD MW3. While that isn't saying much from PC standards, it is still a very nice upgrade from CS:S.
2. gameplay: We don't play CS for the graphics and for the purists, they turn those settings all the way down anyways. While I am definitely not a pro CS player, I will keep my graphics cranked, I will attest to some pretty solid game play for a Beta. There are new guns and they fit right in with the game. While some guns need to be tweaked, overall, the guns are great....and take getting used to. In CS:S the hit boxes were scrutinized by the 1.6 players as being way too big. Not anymore. The hit boxes are much smaller. There is a bit of a problem with the recoil and players will have to adapt to the new pattern. I believe it's shaped like a hook.
The maps are MUCH more balanced. Aztec is no longer a heavily favored CT map. Now bridge has two openings for the T's to snipe as the boxes don't cover the door entrance. You can snipe on either side of the boxes now which makes it riskier for CT's to camp bridge. Double Doors now has better hiding and shooting for T's to break through and camp behind whereas the old map was much harder to break through double doors.
Dust also is not as heavily CT favored as there are more ways to breach the CT side.
Pistols have much more variety and the new guns aren't just "thrown in there." The P250 which can be purchased by both CT and T is an excellent gun for $500. It's the second most powerful next to the deagle but has a much higher rate of fire, clip capacity, etc.
The AWP is still a 1 shot kill but the rate of fire and movement tend to be a little bit slower. It took awhile to get used to but I can still dominate pretty well with it. It's not quite as "good" as in CS:S but that may be a good thing.
I like the "Classic Competitive" or "Classic Casual" option to play. Basically Classic Casual gives everyone Kevlar and Helmet and Defuse (I think) and no friendly fire. Some other settings are different but those are escaping my mind right now. I don't spend time in the other modes.
On the downside is the player movement. It's a bit "floaty" and jumping is a bit awkward. Again, some guns need to be tweaked as well. I have heard silencers will be added on release day and that is a great adjustment.
Overall, this game went from being scorned by the entire community to mostly positive feedback from everyone I have been playing with on each server I join. I was playing 1.6 last night and some guys were talking positively about it. The general consensus is that it is much better than CS:S but not as competitively sound as 1.6. However, I am a bit tired of the 1.6 players crying. Games do evolve and people just have to either move with the trend or stay in 1999. I will be spending much time with this game. This last update to the BETA was KILLER and I believe this game will get outstanding support from Valve/Hidden Path. Not only will the development be great for the game, it's really hard to pass up for 15 bucks. I highly recommend pre-ordering for the extra 10% off. Sure there will be Christmas sales for 4.99 but you will get a lot of return on investment from now until then.
Hopefully some found this helpful if you were on the fence about the game as I was prior to getting access to the Beta a month ago. Frag on! -
There is hopefully incoming a lot of mods to tweak the lookos of the game ... loved that you could do it in CSS really gave an extra awesome edge
-
Re:maps, the _se versions of the maps generally do a pretty good job cutting out fog etc. Aztec is never gonna see the light of day competitively, and dust was also a horrible map, somewhat improved in GO but still unlikely to be played competitively.
The worst thing is that VALVE/HPE have a can of worms on their hand - on the one side, the game needs to have the core CS experience, but STILL vary it enough so that things are different enough to play the game. If you go on the steam user forums for CS:GO, and see some of the trash posted on the threads in there, you can understand what they must be dealing with. Every positive critique is swamped by 100 stupid comments. My hats off to them to even attempt such a project knowing what they must be dealing with.
The competitive scene seems to be moving too - NiP is back! -
Bought it just now! Downloading. But it's still says Beta, isn't it supposed to be launched today? And what is with the SDK game?
-
Yeah I don't know why it is still unable to install.
-
It should go live in 3 hours or so according to some blogs/sources.
-
I work until 7:00pm EST. I will be playing this game tonight for sure. I am excited to put the silencers back on the m4 and also see if the physics for the barrels and extra textures are available as I believe there are still some goodies locked for Beta purposes. The last 2gb patch really fixed a lot of issues and that is why a lot of people are now taking this game seriously. Sure there are still complaints on steampowered but the general consensus is it is much better than CS:S already...personally I loved CS:S. But I tend to evolve easier than the hardcore 1.6 crowd. Gonna spend a lot of time with this game I bet.
-
On Dust 2 at the B bombsite, can you shoot through the back corner wall into the tunnels like in 1.6?
-
It's live. No more beta. No need for download. The "beta" from your Steam just goes away.
-
Happened for me.. holiday sale please come
-
Well folks, a little disappointed being that I was active with the Beta. So far, NOTHING changed from the Beta to the final release. The game is good but I expected some patch during the unlocking of the game. There still are no physics when you shoot at a barrel, it appears that there should be a "very high" for texture setting..but isn't. And No silencers yet. Still a great game but I was looking forward to a few extra changes upon the "final release." Right now, it is...well..the Beta. Kinda lame. Oh well..back to playing
-
Yeah I have not noticed any changes thus far....hoping tomorrow there is something new.
-
I'm not sure if it completely unlocked yet. It's a bit confusing. My beta disappeared, and there's a CS:GO on my games list, but there's also a second CS:GO on my game list that says not yet released.
-
I'm enjoying the Arms Race mode in GO. Very fast paced and perfect for those times when I just don't feel like waiting for respawn.
-
New update but still no silencers :/
-
What engine is GO running on?
-
Basically the Orange Box version Source.

Dude... tagging + flinching has been added!!
Unbelievable how much VALVE and HPE listen to the community!! -
I'm getting impatient

They've changed it though - now your aim gets punched regardless of where you are hit. IMO it adds a bit to the game that was lacking, 1.x purists not withstanding.
