How does CS:S perform at max settings at 1280x800 without AA/AF and HDR on a Mobility Radeon HD 2600 vs. on a GeForce 8600M GT?

It will run with 50+ FPS, you may even be able to enable 2x or 4xAA.

    I own a 8700gt and I run it at 1680x1050 with 4xAA and 2xAF without a problem

    my setup is in sig

with 1680 x 1050, all high, 0 x AA, 16 x AF I get 60 fps, so you should be fine with that card, although it will perform slightly worse then mine..maybe due to immature drivers.

on a side note sometimes during intense firefights and large maps it drops down to 40, even 30 at times.....is this normal ?

Wow, I know it has become fashionable to not read before replying but its only a one line post. He wants a comparison of the mentioned cards.

There's a 15 page thread on the forums:

I'd go with the 8600M GT, but don't have much basis as I don't know much about the Radeon cards.

on the settings you gave I was getting 85 FPS on vista with 163.44 drivers. I switched to XP and have the Crysis beta drivers and now I'm getting 114 FPS average. (this was all ran under the stress test with 2x AA and 4x AF). with double the AA/AF I still get over 100. when I bumped the res up to 1440x900 my FPS dropped to 94.
