Hey everyone. I just bought my first ever laptop ... the Compal HGL-30. I've been testing it out with counter-strike 1.6 and works fine, but I do get some stutters at times.

    here are my specs:
nVIDIA GeForce Go7600 (G73M) 256MB Solid Video RAM
    1.66 GHz Duo Core
    1gig RAM
    60gig 5400 HD

Now, while i'm playing .... it would kind of skip frames or freeze (for about a couple of frames) if i get headshotted (or a bit of action occuring with nades/commands coming from teammates and such). I don't understand why it's doing this ... very annoying to me. I turned vertical sync off in increase performance, i've done all the console commands (updaterate 101/cmdrate 101/ect.....), but I still get the same problems. Any help?

Are you playing with ultra/max settings? That's what it sounds like. You may have to turn off the AA or at least pull back some of the texture/detail settings.

Play with it to see which ones are causing your stutter, but my guess is AA set at max.

Considering that the HGL30 has a WXGA 1280x800 resolution screen, Counter-Strike: Source should be playable at any settings with a Go7600.

Do you notice that the hard drive light is on when you play? That's an indication that you are out of physical RAM.

I remember visiting steampowered.net after having a minor issue of my own (starting in ofline mode). I recall seeing a FAQ regarding an issue with nvidea's 7th generation video cards. Check it out.

Well, this is CS 1.6, not source so it shouldn't have problems running if the hgl-30 can run source fine.

Is AA = auto-aim? I don't think i'm running the settings on its max too. 16bit, smoke (bad looking for performance).

hmm the thing is that 1.6 ran fine on my desktop POS gf3...so its definitely not your graphics card or even the settings..AA is anti-aliasing

Excellent point. There seem to be patches for Core Duo/geforce 7 series for many games out there. Perhaps you need to download the appropriate and latest patch for the game.

Have you looked in their downloads/patches section for CounterStrike? They normally list what is being fixed by each patch--and so it would say if there is in fact a Core Duo/GeForce 7 fix.
