Hi!
i have received my new laptop, and the problem is that while loading games like Bioshock or UT3, the fans go crazy, from 0 to 100% in like 2 seconds, and then drop to 20% and then back to 100%....
is this normal? what can be causing this? can this shorten the life of the lappy?
thanks!
-
The notebook is just going under heavy load while starting up the games. It really isn't anything to worry about, and it will probably LENGTHEN the life of your notebook by keeping the system a little cooler under high load.
-
yeah, but the problem is that the fans dont start at 10%, and then gradually go up till 100%, which is the common thing i have seen on ACER 5920 and on ASUS f9s.
however, on this Compal IFT00, the fans go to 100%, 1 second later drop to 20%, 0.5 second later to 100% again.... and so on... the change-speed noise makes me crazy!!!
is that normal? nothing to worry about?
thanks! -
Different notebooks have different methods of handling their fan speeds. Some are pretty close to all-or-nothing, with very little throttling in between. I would worry more if you didn't hear the fan at all.
-
Is it doing it constantly while you are playing, or it just does when you are starting up something intensive and stops after a few seconds or about a minute or so?
If it does it all the time, that could be a problem, but I don't know the solution. Otherwise, I wouldn't think it a problem at all. -
when u load a game or something CPU/GPU intenstive, the temps rocket up, so the fan speed goes up to lower the temperature.....dont worry, its not a problem, happens on my notebook all the time.
-
thanks for your replys!!
however, now i have discovered that it happens as well while in Windows (XP), when copying, pasting, and loading large files...
you think i shouldnt care anymore about this?thanks!
-
it is also going up-down while playing... i have tried recording it with a few mics, but it seems impossible... anway, the changes are pretty noticeable, all time swapping from 20% or so, to 100% every 2-1 seconds!
-
If the fans are going back and fourth between 20% and 100% every two seconds CONSTANTLY, then you have got a problem. If it just happens a few times and then levels out things are fine. Sounds like a hardware issue or something, maybe the temperature sensor in your laptop is fried or something. Maybe a BIOS update would help?
-
is there any program to detect whether the temperature detector is fried?
thanks! -
hi! i managed to upload a video on youtube: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=B51SDM8xZG4
it was recording while playing Red Orchestra (not loading), see from SECOND HALF
thanks! -
Please! i need your help!! becouse if its not normal, i can return my laptop!
please, watch post before
here are the temps i get when playing at max in Red Orchestra during 20 minutes:
Core 1 - 65ºC
Core 2 - 66ºC
GPU - 61ºC
HD - 36ºC
EVEREST and SIS SANDRA -
nobody can give his opinon about the youtube video?
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=B51SDM8xZG4 -
No, that does not seem normal. I didn't think it sounded normal in the First post either (I wonder if the esteemed gentlemen/women before me actually read what you posted
). Try contacting your reseller.
-
are you sure it is not normal?
what seems strange, is that temperatures arent high ever, so maybe its a different cooling system... -
It's either tethering on the brink of going up. the thing that's weird is that it jumps from quite low to max to low to max. What were you doing, and how high were the temps?
-
Cores at 66ºC
GPU 62ºC
HD 38ºC
I was playing Red Orchestra. It also happens with CoH and others... pretty weird... -
While it hitting max there is not unusual, the way it does it is. Try checking in the compal forum how peoples fans go.
-
nobody in compal, sager, zepto has this problem... probably cos the barebone isnt popular at all (Compal IFT00)
-
Bios related? Are all your drivers up to date?
-
i cannot upload bios because when i click on the bios setup program it says "Cannot flash if Memory Maganers (e.g. EMM386) present". I have no memory managers or similar (laptop is 2 days old, only installed a few DEMOS...)...
any ideas? -
Just take that sucker back dude. Obviously it doesn't perform as expected so you need to exchange it or ask your money back. Fan speed going up and down like that for no obvious reason would drive me crazy.
-
 i have waited almost 1 month for this laptop, and now ive gotta return it1!!
sure it is not normal? -
-
Forget how new or old the laptop is. No one here seems to be able to pin point the problem and you yourself seem worried about it, showing it's probably not normal/expected behaviour for a laptop (heck, I ran oblivion on a mobility 9200 (using oldblivion) and you could tell from the fps that that thing was stressed/hot but I never had fans throttling constantly) so it MIGHT be fine, but it MIGHT not be fine, and in the event that it isn't fine you'd probably be saving yourself a lot of hassle by just getting it looked at early on (even if it just serves to put your worry at ease).
Contact support and ask them about the problem. If it's happened before, they may have a solution. If not, don't chance it. -
problem is: they do not return money, but only let you exchange the laptop for one of the same price, or higher if you play the difference
the good thing is that it doesnt happen when it is surfing the web, or writing emails, its jus when gaming.
I think that there must be a point (say 62ºC) where the fan must go to max.... however, when it cools down to 61.999ºC, it goes to med, and heats up going to max again.... -
Tried speedfan? ( http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php). Haven't used it in ages, no idea if it'll even work on a laptop or vista (so check its compatibility - I'm not responsible if it screws up) but it might tell you what your fan and temps are doing in relation to one another.
Otherwise (a bit of tough love here) it sounds like you want some kind of alternative but I can't see one. You need to decide whether you think your laptop is in the condition you expect or not (and here I don't want to influence you as I have no idea of any of the implicated costs, but it sounds like your gut instinct and a few other people's is that there's something wrong). In your position I would think it's much better to have a definite, working, reliable laptop and it would also be much better to diagnose the problem early on than to live with it.
Why not shoot the support an email? Give them as much info as possible. At the same time, if you know the specs/model of your system try searching online thoroughly.
