I have a Dell 1558.... as most of you know is plagued with overheating problems. Anyway. I was thinking about replaceing the cd drive with a SSD, because I don't use it. But thats not my crazy idea :D. I was wondering if I could by a tiny lil graphics card thats way better than the darn integrated one dell has. I mean its 1GB... but its slow and overheats. The CD drive I believe is MicroSATA. Could I get a converter? and would it even be worth it/possible? I'm fairly certain I could get the card and converter, but running it to the laptop's screen is where I get confused. Idk. Just throwing an idea out there. Tell me what you guys think :)

Considering your iGPU is built alongside your CPU, it's not overheating unless the CPU is. What are your actual temps? An iGPU is not powerful enough to generate a substantial amount of heat, they excel at using very little power. I'm not doubting you, just want to make sure this is the issue here.

As for the CD drive, it's possible I think, but you would need a caddy in the slot to screw in the drive. All, make sure all the connectors match up before buying everything.

No you cannot put in your own graphics. There is no slot.

mSATA is WAY slower than PCIe. Won't work, even if you could get a converter. Not to mention that the amount of modification required to dissipate the heat from a somewhat decent dedicated GPU would not fit in an optical drive bay. Better off just buying a new PC.
