I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forum.

I've been eyeing this new offering by creative, the XMOD x-fi moduler. But all the reviews talk more about how it improves the sound experience for digital music and movies and nothing about games. I was wondering if any gamer has bought this and heared a good improvment in sound. or direct me to a link where it is tested with games.
I hate the built in sound device for my laptop. I believe Its a stigmatel.

    thanks

This is something that completely depends on the type of sounds that the game is generating. The x-fi is meant to clean up processed/compressed sounds and more or less 'rebuild' them so they sound more natural. A friend of mine saw a demo of it and was fairly impressed. I don't know if it can rescue a lousy sound card, though. Many current games will use uncompressed sound because saving space isnt' as much of a big deal as it used to be. My suggestion would be to get one of the creative pc-card sound cards. That will definitely give you a huge improvement over what you have right now--the xmod just won't be able to help out that much...
