What GPU do you guys think would cross the treshold of playing games with better graphics than the XBOX 360? Maybe GeForce 7600?

I'd say maybe a 7700...or one of those newer 8600s. I don't know to be honest though.

Yeah that's what I was thinking but I guess it depends more on the game. I ask because I want to get a laptop that can have as good of graphics as the 360 before I sell my 360.

I guess the 8600 should be better than the xenos

The playstation 3 gpu is some kind of geforce 7900 on a 128 bit bus

Both gpus have the bandwidth of a desktop 7600gt, but seem to have more shader power, and the xenos have the embebed dram to aply antialiasing for free....

And the games are going to be very optimized for them, I really think the pc will need something a lot more powerfull than the console ones because of this...

    probably a 7900 sereies would give u the quality of a xbox360
a 7600 probably wont cut it......

im not really sure about this since i dont actually have an xbox 360....but im pretty sure a go7600 would be no match for it, probably in older/current titles yea, but in newer games no....because of optimization , especially since games are much more optimized for the x360......so.......

I don't know, it's hard to beat playing the 360 on an HDTV at native 720p res for games that support it. Just looks incredible.

Maybe some of the DX10 cards can pull off some fancy tricks that the 360 can't do.

Basically you need a) a resolution above 1280x720 (with a decent pixel density - 1280x800 on a 15.4" and the like laptop are a bit low, though still higher than any HDTV) and b) enough pixel-pushing power to handle that + nearly-full detail + more than 2x AA/AF and you've got the 360's highest possible output beat. The Go7600 simply doesn't have that power, I'm afraid - the core strength and VRAM are there, but it lacks the necessary pipelines. The Go7600GT is a minimum to look at, but the new 8600Ms, and the older Go7800/7900 probably all have the 360 beat. The Dell Inspiron e1705, for example, would beat out the XBox 360 pretty consistently with its Go7900GS and 1920x1200 widescreen. Similar story with the Gateway Nx680XL, the new MacBooks Pros, and the ASUS G1s. just be sure to get 2GB of RAM and a decent processor as well to ensure no stuttering.

I read that the cards in PS3 and x360 are around x1800 and Go7800.
