looks great for being on consoles (ye it has been confirmed the footage was on consoles, think I saw it on gametrailer.com forums). Awesome to see some differant settings this time around...

HOWEVER, it seems to look worse than CryEngine 2.0 probably because it was specifically made for the console market...o well, if we are lucky maybe future games that look as good or better than Crysis will have better optimization with this engine.

Lord, if Crysis 2 is to be multi-platform, PLEASE do not let the PC version be dumbed down like so many multi-platform games have been on PC like F.E.A.R 2 vs
F.E.A.R 1 which started on PC first. :(

If I was a console gamer, I would be happy at this news but am not so happy since I am currently a PC gamer, I feel that consoles will just dumb down the experience for us (PC gamers are the elite master race, silly console peasants!!! :) ), but of course their userbase is far larger than ours and so the developers will cater to them like any sane person.........

Noway I can believe that the graphics is of Xbox360. The platform maybe Xbox 360 after the development of the game. BUt the graphics from the trailer must be from quad SLI GTX 295.

When I hear "CryEngine 3", I'm expecting graphics to blow away Crysis, just like how CryEngine 2 blows away CryEngine (eg. Crysis blows away Far Cry).

I don't see why Crytek calls this engine CryEngine 3 when its not a significant upgrade (in fact the trailer looks a bit worse than CryEngine 2 in some spots). Why not have called it like CryEngine 2.5?

So will this be used for the third Crysis game, or will it used another modified CryEngine 2 even more optimized than Warhead?

Looks like Crysis on High settings. Not impressed. I was really hoping for an engine that took advantage of gaming hardware the way Crysis took advantage of the 8800 Ultra. And how much more powerful is a GTX 285?

Once again, consoles screwing things up for the rest of us. I blame game pirates.

Yes. The game pirates have scewed up the industry. Now that we have lost Crytek. The PC is the system on the side. Or the other child. We will get games later and they will prob. be crap ports.

Looking at the video here on YouTube below....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOBMKAnbZKM

I would say it easily looks worse than CryEngine 2 from 0:24 to 0:39.

I can tell you that a GTX 285 is roughly twice as powerful as a Radeon HD4850, comparing official benchmarks and my and my brother's desktops where he has a HD4850. I believe a HD4850 performs similar to an 8800 Ultra if not faster?

The graphics in trailer at 40-49 sec is simpley outstanding!!!
Noway crysis gonna look like that in Cryengine 2 also the scene where he fires a grenade and you could see the sparks realistic as well as the waterfall. I feel I am describing the whole scene.. ;D its ur own view if the graphics looks better or same.

One of the main reasons Cevat Yerli is opening the engine up to consoles is because so many people pirated the game. I don't blame him for wanting to maximize profit. If you wan't to spend millions on a game and give it away to 80% of the consumers for free, by all means, go ahead.

    http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53357
    http://pc.ign.com/articles/884/884757p1.html

Again, I blame piraters for the CryEngine 3's crappiness. Its very difficult to pirate a console game.

But not for so long I guess. Same thought was with PS2 but it was cracked and used a modded chip and it plays all pirated games with no problem.
So, the crytek also need to understand this as well as give the paying customers get their hands on these type of products.

360 and PS3 also work with a modded chip, but how much harder is it to go in there and mod your hardware, and in the ps3 case, burn a blu-ray, when you could just download a torrent, install with the provided serial, copy a cracked .exe over, and play?

Looked good in some things on the preview vid, the outside scene with the trees looked good. However the Crysis Rip Map the one were its like identical to Crysis looked poor to me compaired to the PC version. It looked like it had a lack of proper lighting and grass shadows. But it still looked good for Xbox360/PS3, that on a 52" TV would be great. I didn't see much of a graphics improvement to be honest, just some newer post pro, upp'd shaders. And better modeled/Textured scenes.

People - this wasn't a game. This was introduction of a game engine. We have yet to see what it's capable of.

Thanks to PS3 Cell, we can expect highly detailed worlds, intelligent AI's and well done physics.
And a small note to MR.Moo - if you believe your PC has the best visuals, maybe it's time you take a look at Killzone 2 on PS3. ;)

well cant argue with killzone 2 in the graphics department, but on the pc u can always have higher resolution better textures, the pc just has more tech to work with..

speakin of cell processor , whats faster i7 or the cell ?

They are two entirely diffrent processors. If you're talking about numbers, then Cell has 8 cores, each running @ 3.4Ghz. There have been discussions about Cell in general and it isn't something to compare with PC processors, as both are designed for diffrent things.

hmm i thought that the cell had one main core with 8 synergistic processing elements, which act as co-processors rather than independant processing cores with cache..

Its hard to compare because they are so different. Windows XP sounded like a great idea on PS3. Until you find out how slow it runs.

Consoles are not like normal computers.

8 cores? HOLY crap thats insane. Killzone 2 was a stunning looking game though, even metal gear was pretty solid.

Because not everyone can shell out several grand for a PC that runs games at the equivalent level of a $200 Xbox.

Actually that is not very true.......a $600 laptop now can run games better then a 360. Im glad its going to consoles because if they can utilize it and make great games then im a happy guy.

Except that is grossly over-exaggerated, you'd need at most an $800 PC to run games at "console" settings unless a game is badly coded like GTA4. :)

Agreed, dang peasant consoles with their huge peasant userbases bringing everything down. CryEngine 3 should have been a breakthrough like 2 was. They should have given it a different name.
