This is a pretty big file, almost 1GB but it took about 25 min to DL at about 700 kb/s.

You need Vista and DX10 to even run it. I maxed all the options at 720p and I got an average of 12 FPS, it's very demanding. Putting everything at low at 800 x 600 helped a lot, and the phsyics were impressive. But that doesn't make up for the huge resource requirements ;)

It's unfortunate because it looks really good.

    ASUS G50VT-X1 (P8400 2.26GHz, 4GB DDR2-800, 9800M GS 512MB DDR3)

    1366x768 @ all High settings

    Total Time: 496.112s
    Total Frames Count: 9821
    Average FPS: 19.8
    Minimum FPS: 11.9
    Maximum FPS: 58.0

A tiny bit lower average framerate than I get in Crysis DX10 on High. Good benchmarker!

EDIT: Surprisingly, turning AA down to a more reasonable level (2x/4x) doesn't seem to produce an increase in performance.

It's not a game. It's like 3DMark where it basically tests your systems on performance, but using PhysX as a criteria.

Its a techdemo for a game.

    http://pc.ign.com/objects/901/901814.html

The Arctic Circle, Russian North Pole station 'Pole 21', 1968 - Alexander Nesterov is a meteorologist sent to investigate the final hours of the North Wind, an old nuclear ice-breaker trapped in an icy grave. This steel beast once fought for its country, but during a dangerous mission it drifted into an ice trap slowly freezing to death every living thing on board. Alex must fight against the intense cold by finding any remaining heat sources as he investigates the final days of the North Wind and unlocks the mysteries within. However, Alex is no ordinary meteorologist as he possesses a unique 'Mental Echo' ability that allows him to relive the final memories of the dead and change their actions in the past, changing their future. Nothing can prepare Alex for the truth he uncovers as he digs deeper into the history of the ship. Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason takes players on a terrifying trip into the unknown as they explore the dark, frozen, claustrophobic corridors and unlock the shocking secrets of the North Wind.

We should be running at the same resolution, otherwise it's hard to compare.

It's AF, not AA. 16x isn't going to be much of a performance hit for a 9800.

If only I was running Vista, I'd love to mess with this and actually for once check the PhysX card in my laptop vs. the GeForce cards. I know everyone says GeForce cards are now better, but I just want to see on my own machine.

Oh, and on Laptopvideo2go there was a new PhysX driver, gonna check that out too.

I get graphics corruption in Vista 64 bit with 181.20 drivers (WHQL) on my desktop. I don't have anything overclocked, and everything has run great on it without issue for the last year.

Im very unimpressed with this game demo. The water looks so fake and it is deflecting off the guy in the most unrealistic way. I would rather have realism than "shiny graphics" and I though thats what phisics was supposed to be all about. The water does not even bounce off the guy its like an inch above him.

It runs pretty well on my G50V though 20fps average on 1680x1050 on high is not bad in stock mode. After overclocking it would go up higher.

Same thing with the serious visual corruption on my desktop 8800GT. The entire top half of the screen starting directly at the middle of the screen is corrupt, the entire image is there, but somewhat darkened, and on the darkened part, all physics objects such as the water don't show. Using 181.20 and the latest PhysX. other than that pretty serious issue, it looks great, averaged 23fps in 1920x1080 maxed out, but still looks good. The water is really blob-like, but it's a step in the right direction. This is also the first demonstration I've seen where real time cloth simulation actually reacts to things being thrown on it, and causes them to bounce back.
