Crysis SP Demo unlocked with all/most weapons and vehicles
    - Install the Crysis SP Demo
    - Download this custom level pack HERE
    - Extract the level.pak file (from the RAR file using WinRAR or 7-Zip) and dump it into \Crysis SP Demo\Game\Levels\island ( backing up the exisiting level.pak in there first if you don’t wanna have to reinstall the demo later).
    - Play a New Game, its all the same, but you will see new weapons and vehicles. ;)

Now its a true demo with the alien-technology weapons, vehicles.... and the monster that you actually get to fight with now (after the scene of Aztec's death).

As you can see, Crysis might not be as hardware demanding as you would think.... but will require at least a current mid-range videocard to play at low. My 1.5 year old notebook still plays it fine. And the DirectX9 still looks amazing.

Thoughts on differences between Beta and Official release:
    - the game is still stunning in DX9
    - the performance is still not as optimized as I would like (I have to set it to Low-Medium for good performance and quality)
    - the Beta was much buggier (as expected) than the Official demo
    - in the official demo, you can break trees and your arms pick up weapons and objects
    - the demo was quite easy (even at highest difficult), the AI was not great, and the Beta gave you the ability to run and gun the entire thing... especially if you know how to use Cloak and switch to Strength to punch an enemy in the head.

I do not know if I want to purchase this game... maybe just to beat the Single Player campaign once... and mainly play the multi-player.... until cheaters appear (which they have already in the Beta).

nope plays it just fine. on 1680 x 1050 (the malx only comes in this resolution). dual 7900gtx totaling that with 1gb vram, 48 pixel shaders, 16 vertex shaders and 256 x 2 bus width....now i don't mean to boast or brag but thats more than enough to run crysis at max at my resolution.

Thats weird. What about the dekstops 8800s struggling at high settings at 1900 x 1200. My 8600 runs ok at 1024 x 768 at medium settings.

i just said im not running it at 1900 x 1200. and if your single 8600 would do ok at 1024 x 768 then why is it difficult to believe that Dual 7900gtx can't do max on 1680 x 1050?? the total bus width alone is 4x more than 8600's. the mALX is big and bulky, but it also gets very nice cooling that way and i have an external cooler so it does help in the temp department.

    General NDA:

"A non-disclosure agreement (NDA), also called a confidential disclosure agreement (CDA), confidentiality agreement or secrecy agreement, is a legal contract between at least two parties that outlines confidential materials or knowledge the parties wish to share with one another for certain purposes, but wish to restrict from generalized use. In other words, it is a contract through which the parties agree not to disclose information covered by the agreement. An NDA creates a confidential relationship between the parties to protect any type of trade secret. As such, an NDA can protect non-public business information."

NDA = Non-Disclosure Agreement. Means you can't post screenshots, movies, talk about gameplay/performance (although I'm guilty of that last one... ), etc. The game is extremely unoptimized at the moment, and they don't want people to get a bad impression... that kind of stuff.

Gophn, it'd probably be a good idea to take down those videos and pictures quick. They're really cracking down on NDA violators lately - they made a post on the official Crysis Beta forums about how they've banned 150 people so far.

It's a "puzzle shooter" that's part of the Orange Box (which everyone should buy, because even just Team Fortress 2 by itself is the most fun you'll ever have, ever.)

For Portal: Watch this video and be amazed. :D

It's a bug. The LaptopVideo2Go drivers include a crap-load of selectable resolutions (more than the official drivers do) so the resolution list continues "below the screen" where your mouse can't reach. The resolution drop-down box needs a scroll bar.

I'm going to submit a bug report about it today.

I see... I just played a bit more and found that even on medium settings at 1280x800 I'm getting choppy gameplay (random lag)  and sometimes with display errors (such as some wierd yellow or black colors appearing on the screen)... :(

"Very High" settings are DX10 only, I guess, since they are greyed out in the DX9 beta.

The game still looks gorgeous on low + PS3.0 :)

Playing the beta myself. It runs well on my laptop, but it's not completely smooth. Not like Bioshock on max settings. Perhaps upgrading the GPU to a 7950 is the best way to go, and perhaps the only way to go.

    Poor 7900 GS...just isn't cutting it anymore...

if your "simple computer" is the Clevo (which is by no means simple) you should be able to get good frame rates at high settings at 1280x res.

Right now I'm playing it at 1280X960 with reasonable framerates. Wish I could get it run smoother, but it won't right now. Hopefully the game will be further optimized to run better on my computer. Plus, I don't care much for any MP, so I guess I should really judge the performance when the SP Demo comes out in 22 days...

I hope they further optimise the engine/game as well, if they can optimize enough that a ddr2 8600m gt can pull average of 40 fps @1280 x 800 with medium/maybe a few high setting then they are on the right track to make big sells, because a 8600m gt really isn't all that powerful.

    uh

    wow

    you have dual 7950 gtx

    whoopdy do

    stop bragging

    dual 7950 < single 8800gts

a desktop 7950 can be OCed where as yours are more limited

though 7950gtx is not weak, there is no way you can play crysis with all settings maxed (and i mean with AA maxed too) at 1680x1050 with 60+ fps or even 50...

Most of the time when people say max they don't always mean with 4aa and 60+ fps. In Crysis as long as your getting about 30+ FPS it won't be to bad and when you add in motion blur it makes gameplay seem a little 'smoother'.

Most likely he won't be able to play on max as his CPU is the same as mine making it very CPU limited and with Crysis being very CPU demanding you begin to run into framerate issues.

It's been stated that no computer that exists (including 2x 8800 GTX Ultra's, presumably) can run Crysis at is maximum settings. The developers themselves stated that "max" now is nowhere near the maximum capabilites of the game engine, and that when computers are finally able to take advantage of the "max" setting they will enable it.

true, i did not turn on AA...i don't really think it does too much. and you only need about 30+fps for most games as the human eye can't even detect 60fps...thats mostly just for statistics.

i think gophn posted videos of Crysis on his notebook which he played at medium settings on a 7800gtx 256 at 1900x1200 res.....so i think it is quite logical for two 7900gtx's to play it on high at a lower resolution.

    1) yes, the eye can detect differences between 30 fps and 60 fps. games are different from moves which play at 24fps.

i guess you definitely haven't played quake in which some moves require extremely high fps

    2) aa doesn't do anything? o rly? guess you've a loose definition of jaggies; even at 1900x1200, they are still pretty evident. at 4x aa, much less so. beyond 8x, minor, 16 = smooooooth. 32x = theres a difference?

    3) sure seems like you're very defensive about being accused of bragging since you posted 3 post consecutively defending :p

while i do think crysis is extraordinarily impressive, i'm starting to feel that it can no longer live up to the massive hype that people have created.

i think i look forward more to gears of war than to crysis...

60fps is undetectable by the eye. 30 gives pretty smooth games. and obviously more aa samples will remove the "jaggies" but if you're going to scrutinize to that point then there will be noticeable differences. i would agree that gears of wars is really nice though. and just because im defending sli doesn't mean im bragging about it...im just saying that people shouldn't undermine it's capability.

Nope, 60fps is in no way undetectable to the human eye. This argument has been had on this forum many, many times now, and the human eye can certainly detect at least up to 60fps. Above that, the refresh rate of your screen comes into play, so it gets more complicated.
