Awesome...thanks for the link!

Awesome! Can't wait to shoot something!

While you are waiting for the download, make sure you go to MyCrysis and set up your account or you won't be able to play. Right now, it seems to be congested with all the new users.

I'm having to pause at 1.1GB's because my dads complaining that the internet is slow
-
I'm having some trouble creating the account
I guess too many people are doing so at the moment
-
I can't even log in. I've tried both my Gamespy account and mycrysis account. Looks like more of a Beta than a Demo so far.
-
Is Steam getting this demo aswell ?
-
Great performance on my G72GX, 1280x720, advanced graphic options, 45-50 fps pretty consistent.
-
So other than the resolution, is Gamer/Advanced/Hardcore the only way to fiddle with graphics for better performance?
-
Multiplayer demo? Where's the single player? I don't care about MP on this, but try it anyhow!
-
-
-
so what is the max setting.
-
Ok, I just downloaded from steam and had a go on that Hightop or building level, and then alt+tab out to run fraps and then played Pier 17. This is what I get with my Toshiba X505 Q892 with an i5 460m and GTX 460m, resolution set to 1680x945 (native res) in game options, and now framerates for each of the preset graphics settings.
I believe the most demanding highest preset is Advanced, then medium is Hardcore, and low settings is Gamer.
Map: Pier 17
Advanced preset:
min 20 fps
avg 22-26 fps
max 30 fps
Hardcore preset:
min 22 fps
avg 25-30 fps
max 32
Gamer preset:
min 25 fps
avg 27-32 fps
max 35 fps
So yeah I was kinda off on my estimate of being able to push 30-60 fps with my system, since this game is still demanding on hardware. I'm pretty sure right now at the moment developers are targeting the GTX 460m as a minimum requirement to enjoy a fairly smooth experience with the newer games that are released between the end of 2010 and maybe the 3rd quarter of this year to run at a reasonable 25 fps.
My thoughts so far on the game is that in time after the learning curve, it'll be fun and engaging. Although I already don't like and is a huge mistake for Crytek not to allow the zoom function to toggle, instead you need to hold down the right mouse button in order to zoom, which feels very awkward.
I do like the fact of the Preset graphic settings, because it's optimized in a way that with anything less than Advanced settings (which is the high settings) when you lower it down to Hardcore (med) or Gamer (low) you doesn't feel as if you've down graded or you're missing any graphic enhancement, i.e. no extra pop up, draw distance etc., but it's as if the setting was made specifically for your system. Well at least the Gamer setting on my system, which has the optimal framerates for a GTX 460m.
To conclude, if Crytek does give an option to toggle the zoom function when Crysis 2 is release I just might consider picking it up, right now that is a deal breaker... -
Mostly 30+ on Hardcore at 1680x1050, pretty good

I'm getting unplayable ping everywhere and not being able to create a server certainly isn't helping.
-
Haven't tried it on my laptop yet, don't know if it has the horsepower needed, core 2 duo/Nvidia 9800. But playing on my desktop on hardcore and I still get only around 25-30 fps on average. Advanced settings makes it much more playable for me. Gameplay is decent so far. Don't know if I'll get this game. I'm more of a "realistic" shooter type gamer, ie: BF series, COD series. But I did have a bit of fun with this demo and will play again.
-
We should bear it in mind that the fps in multiplayer and singleplayer will be different. I am not an expert in this area, but that's what I am guessing. Also, I am guessing that fps in single will be slightly lower than in multi, unless rendering other users is harder than rendering AI.

Game Review -- Performance 49-60fps Gamer, 42-50fps Advanced (rig in sig)
Graphics -- Pretty good. I need to spend some time actually looking at the plants and stuff rather than looking over my shoulder.
Gameplay - Well if you hated BFBC2 for hit detection you are really going to hate this. Absolutely no rhyme or reason for kills. In the kill cam you can watch folks as they kill you. One time I died 2 people were shooting the guy that shot me. Maybe it's just the replay but 2 folks with scars including myself and this guy also (had a scar) and 1 shot killed me..? Um no.. It takes almost an entire clip to kill someone. I am level 4 now and let me say this... Another game where people will probably buy it for SP and leave the MP alone.

Is there no customizable graphics options? I only get like 20-30 fps on my lappy at 1080p. Ugh.

here is a very good article on the card: GeForce GTX 460 768MB Overclocking | bit-tech.net
The 460 maxes every game I play, most games with more than 4x anti-aliasing. Put the 460 in SLi and you are talking about a very powerful, budget friendly alternative to higher end graphics cards. -

Well the online web registration hanged forever for me, but I just decided to try logging in with the account anyway and it worked. I guess it can still go through even if it hangs forever.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Been playing it. It feels "slow" on Advanced and I got a 5870M at 1050p. Also the hit detection is one of the worst in any FPS I have ever played. Took me a whole magazine to wipe a noob off the planet. Yet, the noobs fought back killing me everything I struggled the mouse to aim in the milk of lag.
The graphics on Advanced are pretty good though. Better than the medium setting for Crysis 1 and overall the FPS should be higher too. -
Argh, can't get past the Creating account screen... I've tried through MyCrysis, no luck....

Expecting that card to play a newly released 2011 game, then seeing the performance, complaining about the framerate, being given an accurate answer by jacob808, then calling me a liar, just proves both of you are in denial, or just want to make each other feel better, bond and then rep each other, which doesn't help the community, since others will probably look to yall false badges.
I speak the truth. The average framerates your getting is because of the video card. 30 fps is still good and playable, because the developers of Crysis 2 gave us another game with "consolitist" meaning they learned not to push the envelope of current hardware like they did with Crysis 1, and to support even 3 year old mass produced hardware like the GTX 260, but I highly doubt your card will run BF3.
You're arguments about it still being a good card able to push most games out there bears some truth, but even though my 3 year old 9700m gts can run new games, the framerates won't be acceptable at high settings compared to my 460m GTX.
Bottom line if you want better framerates then upgrade. -
Wow, awesome game so far. Demo is only multiplayer but the gameplay is insane. I gotta practice more cause I keep getting killed left and right. Awesome game though.

That said, unless the developer is really going to push all the buttons on producing a PC version that will have all the bells and whistles, then your argument on forcing people to upgrade is invalid if you want a game to run better than console settings.
BF 3 will be very playable on medium-high settings with the GTX 260. After all, the core of Frostbite 2 is still favoring consoles. DICE is probably just going to post-convert the files to DX 10/11 for PC and adding further features. In the end though, they will make damn sure that medium settings will look nice for slightly older hardware to run but also keeping the benchmark for high for the newer gear.
However not everyone wants to run everything on maximum and today "medium settings" still looks better than "high settings" at games two years ago by miles, but still within reach of hardware from 2007 easily.
If you do want the best and the best, then yes you will need to upgrade to unlock them like for upcoming BF 3 on Ultra and even Crysis 2 on Hardcore at 1080p. However, if you want to stick medium-high, then I am sure the 260 is still a terrific card to do it.
For me, Crysis 2 looks stunning and even better than Crysis 1 on high with the medium settings and I get terrific FPS at 35-45 (after some mouse sensitivity adjustments, turns out I was an idiot for not setting my mouse sensitivity so DISREGARD my criticism in my previous post!). I am sure my 5870M won't cut any cake for going Hardcore on 1080p. That I will need to CrossfireX the sucker at least.
So Jacob has a point that if you want to hit the best of the best, then yes you will need to upgrade every two years to keep up. HOWEVER, if you want to be better than consoles by a bit and get more of the PC graphics feel, you are still in the game for good graphics on medium-high settings using medium-high end graphic cards from three years back.
It just varies on what you want out of the graphical settings. For me, I don't mind medium-high and slight lower FPS for a great visual experience and I am sure for at least the next two years, developers will try to continue hitting the sweet spot for everyone's budget and style.
Now only if they can do better optimization on their code... -
