Overall, I felt like the nanosuit system in Crysis was a lot more intuitive to use. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about nanovision, I think it need not be included. Also some of the controls feel a bit awkward, for example to do a power jump you have to hit spacebar + shift which I do but sometimes my guy doesn't respond the way I want him to. Same with crouching and sliding. Also, I think the nanosuit recharges WAY too fast.
Shooting while sliding and the air stomp thing are gimmicks and essentially useless. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
no. i used this method also, the webpage failed for me, i've had it up since the first day. -
Looks pretty amazing maxed, but I think the original Crysis is still better looking?
-
So, I've been a console gamer for most of my life (I'm 19, and I've probably been playing since I was 5), and I have to say... this is the most "consoly" game I've ever played. I mean, it's not bad, but it doesn't feel right or look right. And what's with all of the pop-in? At least it caused it to run silky-smooth. (which is odd, since my temps indicate that both my CPU and GPU should have been heavily throttling...)
-
Silky smooth at what res? I barely get 30FPS in 1080p... Tho I get 50-70 in 1366x768.
I will REFUSE to buy this game if there are no custom graphical settings. If there are, I presume I will have :
- Very High
- Textures
- Objects
- Sound
- High
- Shaders ( maybe )
- Volumetric effects
- Medium
- Shaders ( maybe )
- Shadows
- Water
- Low
- The STUPID POST PROCESSING! -
1366x768, since I don't have an external monitor. Though, I only played on Gamer.
-
Haven't played this yet, there are seriously no customizeable graphics settings beyond the three presets? They had it in the original Crysis, what were they thinking removing that? That must be the most console-ish thing I've read about this game yet.

The difference between Hardcore and Gamer settings
outdoor test
gamer: http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/1171/test1gamer.png
hardcore: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6307/test1hardcore.png
indoor test
gamer: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6690/test2gamer.png
hardcore: http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2416/test2hardcore.png -
Only things I notice :
Outdoor:
- Darker shadows in hardcore and more Bloom and LOADS of motion blur
Inside :
- More objects, but that is not a setting that affects performance.
So, yeah, Gamer settings just need more objects and IMO is better than hardcore. -
Thanks for that.
Is it me or does Gamer look better, clearer than Hardcore?
I have been playing the demo on Hardcore only, I am now going to switch to Gamer. -
Crysis 2 MP Demo Tip | Video Game Online Forums & Community | Game Platform Discussions for Video Games - GameTrailers.com
Just copy and paste the command into the launch options area of the crysis 2 mp demo steam launcher, or if you are launching from a shortcut, just put this at the end of the target line.
cl_fov=80 pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov=80 r_MotionBlur=0 g_skipIntro=1 r_glow=0 i_mouse_smooth=0 r_PostMSAA=0
this helped a fair bit -
All work except r_PostMSAA. MSAA is somehow built into all settings, and can't be turned off.
r_MotionBlur=0 has almost 0 difference. -
Only downside of gamer is that the distance where the objects are rendered is smaller.

They've basically sped up the gameplay to COD speeds which is totally opposite of the original Crysis. They've ruined it. I will not be buying Crysis 2.
-
I've just installed this on my new laptop and omg... the graphics are unreal! i never tried Crysis 1 so i might get it.... it's playable as well
30+ fps gamer setting.
-
is your lenovo getting those results? if so I should be able to handle hardcore, actually ill download now.
-
Steam offered to download it for me, so thats what I did.
Noob question: I get to the game server, select a game and press join. But after it connects and loads it just leaves me as screen that shows who's on the server? -
Ok, I just downloaded from steam and had a go on that skyline level, and then alt+tab out to run fraps and then played Pier 17. This is what I get with my Toshiba X505 Q892 with an i5 460m and GTX 460m, resolution set to 1680x945 (native res) in game options, and now framerates for each of the preset graphics settings.
I believe the most demanding highest preset is Advanced, then medium is Hardcore, and low settings is Gamer.
Map: Pier 17
Advanced preset:
min 20 fps
avg 22-26 fps
max 30 fps
Hardcore preset:
min 22 fps
avg 25-30 fps
max 32
Gamer preset:
min 25 fps
avg 27-32 fps
max 35 fps
So yeah I was kinda off on my estimate of being able to push 30-60 fps with my system, since this game is still demanding on hardware. I'm pretty sure right now at the moment developers are targeting the GTX 460m as a minimum requirement to enjoy a fairly smooth experience with the newer games that are released between the end of 2010 and maybe the 3rd quarter of this year to run at a reasonable 25 fps.
My thoughts so far on the game is that in time after the learning curve, it'll be fun and engaging. Although I already don't like and is a huge mistake for Crytek not to allow the zoom function to toggle, instead you need to hold down the right mouse button in order to zoom, which feels very awkward.
I do like the fact of the Preset graphic settings, because it's optimized in a way that with anything less than Advanced settings (which is the high settings) when you lower it down to Hardcore (med) or Gamer (low) you doesn't feel as if you've down graded or you're missing any graphic enhancement, i.e. no extra pop up, draw distance etc., but it's as if the setting was made specifically for your system. Well at least the Gamer setting on my system, which has the optimal framerates for a GTX 460m.
To conclude, if Crytek does give an option to toggle the zoom function when Crysis 2 is release I just might consider picking it up, right now that is a deal breaker...
EDIT: playing SKYLINE Level right now and the increase in framerate is huge.
Playing in Advanced setting averaging 37-42 fps
min 35 max when looking at sky or on top of roof is in the 60s -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
You do realize that FRAPS kills like 5-7 FPS when being run? I wish they added an in-game FPS counter. I am guessing with my 5870M at 1680x1050 I am around 40-45 FPS on Advanced Settings. -
what level are you playing? I just edited my last post and since then I've just got back on and played the skyline level and I'm getting about same average FPS as yours. I think Pier 17 is more graphically demanding. Kinda scares me to think if the final game will have more of those graphically demanding maps that kill the whole experience.
EDIT:
Map: Skyline
Advanced preset:
min: 35 fps
avg: 37-42 fps
max 70 fps -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I am on Advanced. Hardcore looks too "fake" and the haze is just rubbish and annoying.
I think many people hate Pier 17. The map layout in general is too confusing to see where you are going. So far, it is not popular with people over the two. -
Fraps does not "kill" nor affect fps when run in simple fps counter mode. If you are recording with fraps, it actually chops your performance a lot.
-
but what's your framerate like on Pier 17?
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I didn't check Pier 17, I only checked with Skyline. Based on my feel though Pier 17 feels the same in the fluidity as Skyline, but since there is "moar" water and stuff, it might drop a few frames. I can let you tomorrow once I am not busy and do a FPS check for Pier 17.
I thought it did, well good to know! Thanks!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i also think fraps kills a frame or two per second just by running in frame counter mode. it *does* plug into the dx render path and renders out text on top of it in a separate process.
anyway, compsci thoughts aside, my experience leads me to believe that it's true. obviously record mode can have a significant impact on performance.
i think it's gamer < advanced < hardcore
but I agree that the post processing effects of hardcore mode bother me. I don't like that setting. -
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
That is what I figured and why I try to avoid FRAPS.
Also yeah Hardcore is just = Advanced with lots of post-process details that makes it look like you are playing though HDR hell. -
No, unfortunately
I'm playing on Gamer 1280x720 with 40+ (35-60)
Better FPS better gameplay better score
. Im around 1200 on top list so far, love it!
Well there's practicaly no difference between these 3 settings, and the main difference between gamer and hardcore is that on HC there are more on the ground, and better distance view for that on the ground, so no, i prefer better fps than couple of more details in this fast paced action. I really don't have a time looking at details and how good are sunshafts and like that. It's not called "Gamer" for no reason.
Btw and you can use a tool to turn off bloom and msaa and hdr effect.

Finally manged to login today and play a few rounds
First impressions are that it's 'VERY' console(y), and im not really a fan of how fast your energy regenerate?!
See below for my Fraps results all in 1920/1080:
Crysis2Demo - Advance
Frames: 3750 - Time: 116073ms - Avg: 32.307 - Min: 24 - Max: 44
Crysis2Demo - Hardcore
Frames: 5804 - Time: 233648ms - Avg: 24.841 - Min: 19 - Max: 31
There's not a vast differnece in going hardcore, still VERY playable but can't justify the drop in FPS for a few textures or whatever it brings.
Overall though im having fun with this, still keeping my Pre-order hoping that the SP delivers in abundance
-
Finally i'm in! no sound though ........... and it looks better on Gamer than Hardcore for me
EDIT: Unplugging my G35 "fixed" the sound issue. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Hardcore just adds a ton of crappy post processing that makes everything look fuzzy and blurry.
-
Playing the demo on my m11x i5 very smooth, so i tried to play 1080p on my 32" Sony Bravia EX400 and guess what? Very smooth too at advanced graphic.
However after 1 hours gameplay, BSOD >.<
Bios OC at 160mhz only.
Normally i play at 158mhz. -
not if your hardware can run it at a consistent 30-60 fps, without ever dipping below 30, it will look awesome.
-
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
I honestly can't stand the MP Demo. It's about to be deleted. The hit detection is so bad that I about have to rage quit each match. If I buy this, and it's a big IF, it will be for SP only. What a shame. Original had much better HD than this...
-
Well not, its all about bigger fps in mp for better performance. I'm playing BFBC2 with med low details (texture on high tho) just to have better picture to play on, clearer and more enjoyable. It's not called "Gamer" for no reason. Medal of Honor on mediumish details just to turn off that awfull bloom and AO
I really dont have a time to look at details with fast paced action as this is, its all about shoot, hide and run, really not that much time for looking around and drooling for better sunshafts and more crap on the ground and a little bigger LOD. And yes, this CryEngine3 blur and HDR is just joykiller, its just blurry and nothing more, look comparision shots from crysis 1 and 2 on incrysis forums and you'll see what I'm talking about. Like everyone i know, no matter does they have High End Desktops or Low end one, all of them turned of bloom and hdr and motion blur, just to get better mp experience.
Its "playable" for me too with 25fps on HC, but you reeeeeeeeaaaalyyyyy cant play good mp match in this game with lower than 30-35fps, its choppy, your aim is late, its not smooth, maybe for sp, but not for mp -
This demo is pretty meh. The hit detection is pretty bad, as I've shot at people right on, but they turn around and kill me in 2-3 shots. Even though the graphics are top-notch and the game is nicely optimized, they are really distracting. I'm used to playing BFBC2 on low settings for max fps.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah I agree the hit detection is awful. I hate the slow time zoom in one hit shots which are very unreasonable.
-
I played like maybe 4 times and I never really noticed any hit detection problems, but I think if there was an issue then we have to realize that all the player have high tech nanosuits with armor.
-

Problems with Gameplay:
-Suit recharges too quickly.
-Nanovision is way overpowered.
-Stealth mode use is overpowered.
Basically everyone runs around with nanovision and stealth mode until they run out of energy, then they wait five seconds, enable nanovision and stealth mode, rinse and repeat.
There's no point in even trying to stay alive because you can't. It's just die die die kill kill kill it's so easy it's pointless. -

I REALLY DONT like the fact that if you leave a game it counts in your stats as a loss!!!
even if you are winning once you leave it will count as a loss!!!!
I like my stats and this is REALLY bad way of getting stats...They should follow Dead Space 2 os saving every after the fight not like this -
I can't even play Crysis 2.... whenever I click login, it immediately brings me back to the login screen... if I keep trying, it eventually seems to try and connect, only to tell me network error.

Ever since the first download it has happend. I downloaded it via steam ant for 3 days, I say updates downloading. first it was 1.7GB, then additional 800MB and then 400MB.
Haven't been able to play it ever. I'm getting tired of this. It shouldn't be THAT difficult to make a freaking working demo. -

I played the game and for the first several hours of gameplay I was having a blast mastering the controls but I still can't get down the nanovision thing and it eventually got boring. The nanovision is so stupid! I mean as said before, people just stealth and nanovsion and its completely pointless, while I want to play utilizing my skills. I love ripping off the heavy machinegun its my favorite weapon in the game so far. It makes you walk slow but that is ok when you have really good aim. the only problem is nanovision noobs and the game would probably be alot alot better. also make stealth drain faster.
edit: I also really hate the pier 17 map for no particular reason. skyline is pretty fun though. -
Why is nanovision noobish? I dont understand really, stealth is not noobish and using of overpowered mg (like medics in BFBC2) and nanovision is? Don't see the pattern here sry...
