I'm itching for a new FPS to play, Bad Company 2 is great and Left 4 Dead 2 is mega fun, but I need something newer to play.
Anyone have either (or both?) of these? Do you like them? I hear Homefront takes the cake with the Single Player, but as for multiplayer Homefront is more of a strategic FPS where you need to plan your attacks and work as a team, whereas Crysis 2 is fast-paced frenzied fun with the nano suit and weapons.
Thoughts?
No, I have not played the original Crysis.

I heard both kind of sucked. Crysis 2 has many gameplay balancing woes and glitches in MP and Homefront I heard was not as great as it was hyped to be. I say just patiently wait for something else or for both games to lower prices.

Tsk, tsk....decisions, decisions. -

Homefront is fun, I've enjoyed the singleplayer... I have yet to finish it, got tied up with work, but plan too soon. I've heard its not overly long, but I've really enjoyed what I have played.
I do intend to get Crysis 2 though at some point, so can't really say you'll go wrong with either. -
Crysis 2 is not a bad game compared to most FPS games. I'd say for single player, it's the best in a very long time. Plenty of stuff to shoot, plenty of sci-fi weapons, explosions and a 10 hour long campaign with good music etc.
The only part about Crysis 2 is the buggy MP right now and the potential. Crysis 2 potentially could have been mind blowing amazing if used the same level of quality of graphics as Crysis 1.
But even for MP, I'd go with Crysis 2. It's a bit unique and it's something different. Homefront MP tries to replicate COD nearly exacty, so it's nothing new. -
Just between those two, go for Crysis 2.
-
i own both and can vouch for crysis 2, i only have played homefront for 15 minutes and have put it down due to the fact that it bored me to death.
-
I also own them both and I can say Homefront is not worth the effort I completed it in like 2 hours on hard, but Crysis 2 is another story very good single player game.

Crysis 2
Crysis 2
and Crysis 2.
Epic à la Inception music with über epic story and gameplay make it a super epic game. Must buy IMO. I had tons and tons of fun in SP. The story is so well made! -
also if any one wants to buy crysis 2 for $25 let me know, i have it for sale on the FS:thread
-
Well I said f*** it and bought both of them. Homefront was $38, Crysis 2 was $51. With that added up it was $89, but with all the gift cards factored it, I only ended up spending $39.
I am enjoying both games. Crysis 2's visuals have blown my mind. -

Crysis for the SP fun and the visuals...
Homefront for the MP fun (once they kick the hackers and optimize performance) -
Just my 0.02c: I played Homefront and it reminded me of the Bulletstorm CoD spoof video, 'Rank Up! Super Master Sargent blah blah...' dialogue was kinda forced. But both are corridor shooters, not as open as Crysis 1.

+Rep for word usage as it describes the games perfectly! -
Well I wouldn't call Crysis 2 corridor shooting...it's more like 'small-neighbourhood' shooting. Homefront, on the other hand, is classic corridor shooting (linear narrow path, cutscene every little while).
-
Crysis 2 is not a corridor shooter, although the path you take is more guided than in Crysis 1. Not that Crysis 1 was an open world shooter... you still had your checkpoints to reach to end the level with some occasional side mission locations to engage.
I would consider Black ops a corridor shooter, even though I enjoyed the cinematics and visuals in this game as well. -
Homefront is a extra mission pack for CoD, thats about it.
Crysis 2 is a good show off of how cool graphics can be and is moderately entertaining, at least it is nothing like other shooters for the most part if you dont count crysis 1. -

Corridor Shooter accurately describes both Crysis 2 and Homefront. The maps are not open and you need to follow one path to reach each checkpoint. CORRIDOR SHOOTER. Perception does not change this FACT. The choke points still take place at each checkpoint.
Please dont allow personal bias about a game to change the facts. Fact is you have a very linear path to follow to complete each checkpoint. Fact you have chokepoints at most checkpoints. Fact you have different choices of guns and add ons but this doesn't change the CORRIDOR SHOOTER mentality. Some maps may "feel" more open but they are not.

I have Crysis 2 and whenever I try to play MP, it has no servers (0 servers) to play on.... anyone having the same problem?

I have my firewall setting to allow full access to the game, tried running as administrator but no good. I even chatted with EA customer help but the dude was clueless too. Man this game is ed.
Another question: For single player, after you quit the singleplayer from the checkpoint then quit the game, and turn the game back on and resume, does the nano catalyst supposed to reset to 0 or the game should save the nano catalysts as well? Mine seem to reset, which pisses me off. -
I've played both and crysis is better. If only it didn't have aliens.. They creep me out.

Homefront is back up and running.. have fun gents...

Homefront on the other hand just completely stole the concept of the game from other shooters and while its ofc ok, since its the same game genre it didnt bring ANYTHING new. Graphics is mediocre, gameplay is nothing new, level design is boring, story is plain silly etc. Multiplayer isnt special either.
Name me at least few reason why its not a mission pack for CoD? How is it different? -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Why Homefront couldn't be a COD add on...
1. Different Engine (Unreal 3)
2. Maps are much larger in Homefront MP. I mean much Larger.
3. Vehicles.. Lots of them compared to COD.
4. COD is dx9, Homefront has option for Dx9 and Dx11.
The list could go on and on and on. Really no point to discussing further.

I say Crysis 2. Its way better than predecessors but keeps heating my GPU more than other games and worse of all causes the driver to crash after 1.5hours. Other than that , Homefront just doesn't stand a chance to Crysis 2 at all.

Crysis 2 all the way. Just finished the Single Player today playing a few hours in stereo 3d on my 120 inch projector image. Definitely the best FPS experience I've ever had (besides the fantastic gameplay itself, the stereo 3d on such a large screen made it special).
The nanosuit is insanely fun to use once you get the hang of it, and can use abilities like heat vision and stealth to tactically eliminate your enemy. I played on Veteran and I found it somewhat challenging without using my powers most of the time. I am now going to play it again on hardest difficulty. -
-
Don't waste money on Homefront. I finished SP in ~3 hours, played 15minutes of MP, then uninstall. It's worth $9.99 at best, and that is what you should pay for it or less.
-
What is Homefront ?
Aaaaaaah, I remember now - it was some kind of wannabe game with 10 year old graphics even on max and with a couple of hours of campaign. -
Crysis 2 reminds me of Halo. Haven't played it yet, but probably going to buy it soon.
-
-
lol, just logged in in homefront after 2 weeks and there are like 10 servers with 20 players, rest of them is 8 and less
really shame, it was good potential -

@Wahad.. it's getting a little better. Patch has put performance BACK where it should be. I wont say "improved" I will say "restored" performance.
The hackers are still in force but some new measures have helped. A lot of hackers moved on to Crysis 2 mp. -

The MP experience in both is rather lack luster. It's mostly just run & gun action, very much COD style.
