    Minimum system requirements for PC
Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
    Dual core CPU
    2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)
    Nvidia/Intel example setup: Nvidia GTS 450, Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz (E6600)
    AMD example setup: AMD Radeon HD5770, AMD Athlon64 X2 2.7 Ghz (5200+)

And how does my GT 650M fare in comparison? I believe the GTS 450 is faster than my GPU - so am I doomed? Could I play at all? Why have the minimum requirements shot up so much from Crysis 2? I could run that at high settings...

You will likely be able to play it. Just lower detail and 720p.

Although you listed the minimum requirements, you generally always want to treat the "recommended requirements" as the minimum requirements, and then exceed them.

MINIMUM SYSTEM OPERATING REQUIREMENTS FOR PC:
    • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    • DirectX 11 graphics card with 1Gb Video RAM
    • Dual core CPU
    • 2GB Memory (3GB on Vista)

    Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
    • Nvidia GTX 560
    • Intel Core i3-530
    Example 2 (AMD):
    • AMD Radeon HD5870
    • AMD Phenom II X2 565

    HI-PERFORMANCE PC SPECIFICATIONS:
    • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
    • Latest DirectX 11 graphics card
    • Latest quad core CPU
    • 8GB Memory
    Example 1 (Nvidia/Intel):
    • NVidia GTX 680
    • Intel Core i7-2600k
    Example 2 (AMD):
    • AMD Radeon HD7970

    Is that Steven Colbert? Lol!

@ jpinks: I'm not quite sure, but you are correct: notebooks don't have the cooling capacity nor the power output to really drive more horsepower in their components.

When I first saw the high-performance specs it listed a gtx 670, so I figured the 680m would handle it pretty well with an overclock. Looks like the only laptops that'll max this out have 680m sli and 7970m crossfire

Last time I checked, the i3-530 was not a quad core CPU

    Seems Legit!! :D

Wonder how my good old 6990m will be able to handle it? Guess we will have to wait and see, but when the 780m releases I'm sure ill be able to play it just fine. :p

Your samsung could probably crank it out at 720p at playable framerates, but you're definitely on the low end of things. You might want to try running Far Cry 3 and see what your experience is. That can give you some sort of idea about what you're getting into.

Dual core with hyper threading. Looks like a typo on their end. I find it almost more confounding that an i3 - regardless of what gen - is listed for the recommended specs.

I messed around in the multiplayer alpha/beta when it was running, and dang the game was BRUTAL on my 6970M. It was literally the first time I felt like my GPU was a weakling.

But my God, it has the most incredible graphics, and they didn't even have the best of them enabled yet.

Yeah, it was rough on my 7970m too. Multiplayer was kinda fun though. I'm not normally into online mp, but I was doing pretty well regardless. I guess it was because everyone who was playing it was new to the map and gameplay.

Sorry, my bad. Under further investigation it's running heavily modified version of the crytek engine called Dunia 2. Still, it's the type of game that would graphically give you an idea of how Crysis 3 would run.

I run Far Cry 3 at medium settings with the exception of textures set to the highest and with DX11 enabled. I run it at 1366x768 and get framerates of 40-50fps with those settings.

Agreed. Especially since you can adjust so many of the settings Crysis 3 will no doubt be using gratuitously.

I would bet any 7970M/680M/675MX will be able to run Crysis 3 with Ultra as baseline with the following adjusted.
    - Tessellation. Normally my guess Crysis 3 will be running tessellation at 64x, but visually, for most, you only 4x. Seriously, only 4x.
    - DX11 hardware accelerated DOF! Turn it off. Human eye does not have depth of field problems as CryTek thinks you do, for some reason. That's only for really bad cameras.
    - Motion blur. Again, that's a camera issue. Turn your head and scan the scene quickly, it's not a blur.
    - Adjust the ambient occlusion. Some are better for others. For example, HBAO is Nvidia tech whereas HDAO is AMD tech.
    - AA. Turn it off. No doubt CryTek will use very taxing post processed AA again. Instead use SSMA using an injector, like SweetFX instead.

I think with all of that combined above, you should see decent framerate. But then it does depend on how customize-able the game will be. Will CryTek be nice like they were with Crysis or ambivalent like Crysis 2?

The Phenom II X2 is a dual core as well, and it has no hyperthreading.
