Have a butcher's at that - I was hoping it would reassure me about being able to play this when it comes out, now I'm not too sure! I mean this is DX9, and it looks stunning! To be honest, the only noticeable difference I spotted was the extra-special effects that DX10 provides, I mean it doesn't lack detail such as sweet HDR or shadowing on everything, and object detail was far from lacking too. This might kinda mean that Crysis in DX9 will only run slightly better that DX10 would.

I have a feeling we'll be setting Crysis settings to low/ultra low, if they go that low...looks sexy as hell though...

two things will determine what your settings will be to play this game, one will be the level of detail but more importantly how well they program the game to run. u can have games with stunning detail run in mid to high settings in mid range systems but only as long as the programmers do their work well. if they dont then expect terrible performance. i would gather the guys from crysistek or whatever theyre called will make sure itll play fine, just like they ddi with farcry

Yea, games that are dx10 and are "downgraded" to dx9 will look like the best dx9 game you have ever seen. Thats why its not going to be a big deal to make the dx10 jump so soon.

Thanks for sharing that video, the game does look very appealing. No offense to anyone but it reminds me of Battlefield 2.

I guess it might be different in the forest maps, but the city scenes they show in the DX10 trailer is very similar to the city scenes in the DX9 trailer. I really don't think there are many things in DX10 that can't be done in DX9, it's just a matter of speed. Even geometry shaders although new are simply trying to create primitives rather than loading them from memory and having to precreate them. But I guess DX10 is still needed/better in the sense that even if DX9 can be made to look as good as DX10 but you need a 8800GTX in order to make the DX9 path playable, then you might as well use DX10 for the best graphics and make the DX9 mode worse so that it can actually run on most DX9 cards.

Hopefully, they are spending time to optimize the DX9 path and make it look the best possible for the rest of us. I always appreciated the Source engine for making the DX8.1 path look nearly as good as the DX9 path. Really the only noticeable difference is the water since it really doesn't convey depth refraction in DX8.1, and the DX8.1 path even had soft shadows. Source could also make HDR would with SM2.0 and their new method of multithreading allows finer division than just bluntly spliting functions like audio and AI into separate threads, all of which require more thought to milk as much out of each technology which is appreciated.

I don't know if it was the video quality but the dx10 video was noticeably better looking. Regardless, I just hope they support an 800x600 resolution cause that's probably all I'll be able to muster.
Looks like you get super powers too? Some sort of special suit...I wonder if you can toss a guy and then blast him with a rocket launcher in mid-air...but punching cars around looks like fun too...

    WOW,

There is a huge difference from dx9 to dx10...just look at any shot of water, trees, or rock. The detail is amazingly realistic.

How long before dx10 games become mainstream, from what it looks like, well over a year...

Microsoft, hardware manufacturers, and developers have done a horrible job of getting this new technology to the consumer...and it looks like it will be a lot longer before we will be able to enjoy dx10.
