So we have the first reviews trickling in.

"Crytek claims that Warhead is better optimized than Crysis, and everything I experienced confirms this. In fact, what's amazing is that Warhead not only runs better than Crysis, it looks better than Crysis...For $30, Crysis Warhead is an incredible value, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better shooter on the PC this year...Warhead to be challenging, exciting, wild, and, yes, very much full of swagger and fury."

"Because although Warhead isn't the most time-consuming initial playthrough - it's a side-story rather than a true sequel, after all - it manages to throw in a surprising amount of variety, and, with that, a considerable degree of replayability."

Gamepro: 90%

"The biggest downside to I can find to Warhead is that you can probably knock it out in one sitting with a play time of about five hours. With a going price of $29.99, however, there's plenty of bang for your buck, and attempting missions over again in harder difficulty modes can really prove themselves as addicting challenges. Throw in the extraordinary Crysis Wars multiplayer, and you've got yourself an absolute steal."
1UP: 85%

"Filled with even more spectacular production values, a script that adds both self-referential humor and additional military jargon, a sweeping score, and even more over-the-top combat scenarios, Warhead's essentially The Rock to Crysis' Predator. This standalone parallel-story expansion is also a pretty clear indicator that developer Crytek listened to feedback about the original Crysis -- Warhead is leaner, denser, and less linear than its predecessor."
Gamespy: 70%

"Crysis was a fantastic PC game, and Crysis Warhead serves up more content with the same visual genius. If you're hungry for more, it's hard to go wrong with the $30 price tag -- just don't expect anything revolutionary."

Wow, thanks for the links. I'm definitely going to buy this as I enjoyed the original Crysis.
-
This is great news. I've been looking forward to this for a whle now, since I beat Crysis on hard relatively fast in two days. Being able to use higher settings will make my xbawks heugg resolution happy.
-
awesome, been waiting for this

I'll definitely get it, I really hope crossfire work now, but as long as the very high tweaks for DX9 still exists I can manage with just one card.
-
$29 on steam. $35 for Clear Sky and $19 for Darwinia/Multiwinia.
Gabe Newell is a temptress -
I have yet to finish Crysis .... Warhead Demo link pls!!!
-
Hopes there will be better water interaction effects! -
crytek is really helping pc gaming, lets hope pirates calm down this round lol yea i hear this game is so much more action packed, since the ceo of crytek was influenced a lot by cod4 and how well the game was
-
I wish there would be a multiplayer beta or something...
Last year when I tried the Crysis multiplayer beta I didn't like online much coz it gets me bored too fast...CoD4 online was so much better and fun... I liked the singleplayer though.
-
Is it out yet?
-
its out 9/16, direct2drive will have it the 17th, and most stores wont get it till the 18th
-
Cool! only a couple more days
-
Yesss I can't wait for this either! What I don't understand is why so many people on this forum bash the original Crysis for multiple reasons such as a cliched storyline, subpar gameplay, and poor physics. Personally I've never played any game with a similar storyline, on-the-fly suit powers (Goldeneye Rogue Agent kind of had this feature but the game sucked), or any games that have more realistic physics. To me, it's much much more than just nice eyecandy.
-
ANYWAY
Thank god for this. It looks to be everything the original Crysis promised it would be. Short, yes, but if the action comes as fast and as furious as the reviews are claiming then hopefully that means the pacing issues have finally been ironed out. The better optimized engine promises turning out true is also a positive sign.
Honestly though, the biggest test for this one is going to be support. Crysis is less than a year old, was a marquee title, and is already being ditched in favor of a new release. The multiplayer here definitely looks nice, but that won't mean much if Crytek decides to stop actively supporting it six months from now.
Either way, single player is looking **** fine.

All i can thing about it is that Crysis was not fully completed and warhead is the full version of crysis.
That’s the reason why crysis had horrible performance compared to warhead even thought we haven’t seen official benchmarks and i thing warhead will improve crysis performance too.
lets see what will happend after few months after some patch released. -
well if Warhead had even 5 FPS increase over the Original Crysis, then i'm cancelling my order on Clear Sky, because the Crysis performance will trash it.

wait is it a expansion or is it a separate game
-
It is a standalone expansion to the original Crysis. You don't need to have the original one to be able to play this.

I might get it.

I didn't really like the first Crysis. This one looks a little better, though. Maybe I'll pick it up just to try it. It's too bad that multiplayer probably still sucks.
-
excited about this one, will definately snag a copy off steam

I'll definetly be picking it up. Problem is I don't have a computer to play it on >_<.

How are you on NBR then?
You're probably using your phone...
BTW, mike, multiplayer in the first Crysis really sucked. There was just no thought put into any of the maps. From what I've seen from Warhead, it doesn't look like it's going to be too different. -

^^ Wow you need a computer man. You can pick up a new but used eee PC for like $250.
MP in Crysis was pretty bad. I agree. I'm not much of an MP guy either. I find them too unrealistic. But what I've seen so for it looks decent.
COD4 is has amazing MP they say, but I don't find 16 people in a locked square map to be very amazing. I love the open endedness of crysis. -
Yeah, I'm actually pretty stoked for the MP. We won't know until the 16th but I have hope.

I read this game is easily completed in under 5 hrs. That sounds more like a tech demo than a full fledged game to me, but considering its only $30 new and actually more of a expansion than a new game I'll probably still get it.
-
Agreed. 5 hours is what Crytek reports. I think I paid $25 for the preorder, so $25 is well worth the better performance and graphics.
-
I wonder how much better the graphics can get...
-
Well in the screenshots I've seen, to be honest, I don't really seem much of a difference. But Crytek is toting that it looks far better and runs smoother. Better facial textures and animation is one thing.
-
Really? 5 hours only?
They really have to step up multiplayer then.
-
ya it seems to be all about MP in this version.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Meh, I'm gonna skip Warhead, I will get Far Cry 2.
-
ya far cry 2 looks waaaay better
-
Too bad the graphics can't compare to Crysis though. The screenshots make the game look like a painting... if that makes sense.
-
i hope the multiplayer is good and addicting like cod4's, the first crysis mp has me bored after one game, im actually looking foward right now most to sp
-
i remember Crytek CEO said Crysis 2 is going to largely depend on the sale of Warhead, i really hope pirates leave this one alone. and as far as the story goes, i think it's decent, i also like the refreshing environments, from forests to Alien base, from ice land to aircraft carrier.
-
Yeah, I didn't feel like I was in the jungle all game. Which is nice.
-
I might get this, but not so sure it will run above low on my system. May be worth checking out though. I want to try the 1st Crysis if it will run on lowest settings.
-
Your system should do crysis on medium high. My friend about has the same specs as you and he plays on medium high @ 1280x768 @ 30fps
BTW, the core of your video card is identical the the 8700M GT. You can overclock your card quite a bit and not have to worry about damaging it. -
-
-
That's what I'm hoping to pay for.
-
I may try it if i'm not getting good performance in games. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
I might be going to a few of the big box retailers to look for a cheap desktop PC and if I see Warhead on a shelf I might pick it up, otherwise I won't get it because I wouldn't feel like going out to the store again on the "official" release date.
Edit: Circuit City has the pre-order for Warhead for $25 with free shipping. -
-
I'm going to actually go out and buy it because I just have to have the box. I have a nice little collection going!

Review from Gamepro added to the OP.
Also, Steam has the game available tomorrow in NA. You can get both Crysis and Warhead for $70.
