So apparently the guy from Crytek said that he can run Crysis on mostly max settings with an 7800GTX. So I decided to figure out what the desktop card got on 3DMark06 and compare it to what notebook cards get on 3DMark06. So there are two different 7800GTX's for desktops here are the scores with no AA, they're at 1024x768x32,Trilinear Filtering, and Default Q. (These were taken from Tom's Hardware's website)

    7800GTX (550MHz, 1700MHz, 512MB GDDR3):2573
    7800GTX (430MHz,1200MHz, 256MB GDDR3): 2060

OK, so those are their scores on 3DMark06 as mentioned above. Now let's see what notebook cards they compare to..

    7800GTX (550MHz, 1700MHz, 512MB GDDR3): 2573
    nVidia Geforce Go 6800 Ultra:2500
    nVidia Geforce Go 7700: 2700
    nVidia 8600M GS: 2743

    7800GTX (430MHz,1200MHz, 256MB GDDR3): 2060
    nVidia Geforce Go 6800: 1900
    ATi Mobility Radeon x1700: 2071
    nVidia Geforce Go 7800: 2200

So there's a comparison of the desktop cards to some mobile cards. It looks like if you have a Geforce go 7700 (Asus G1 users) you should be able to enjoy Crysis. But one error in this post that I'd like to point out is that I'm not quite sure how Notebookcheck tests 3DMark06 I only know how Tom's Hardware tests their video cards so if someone could tell me how notebookcheck test their laptop GPUs I'm sure I could find the correct test on Tom's Hardware's website.

P.S. Rep me if this helped!

It's preferable to run 3DMark06 in its standard 1280x1024 resolution; are you sure that's not the resolution Tom's Hardware used?

Let's see if we can get some benchmarks from users around here. ;) My laptop got a shade over 1,000 in 3DMark06 with the X700 256MB overclocked. Of course the X700 is at a disadvantage because it is only SM 2.0b and can't run the SM 3.0 tests.

If you look at those scores in the Tom's Hardware VGA Charts, they seems strangely low. So I don't think they are comparable what we have here in NBR. Would like to know what are the other specs in their test system.

That Tom's Hardware VGA Chart you are looking at only shows the SM2.0 Score not the whole 3dMark06 score....

LOL that was shocking! I couldnt believe a 7800GTX would get a lower score than a go7700 hehe

Oh, I see what I did wrong. In that case, I'm doomed for Crysis :(

wow this sucks. So basically, I won't be able to play Crysis on medium settings if I had a 8600GS?

No one can definitively say what cards can play Crysis and which ones can't - there are no official requirements as of yet. The game's release is a while away. Once the game comes out and we get some benchmarks for a variety of cards, then we'll be able to make judgments.

Exactly, if your buying a machine specifically for Crysis, your best bet is to wait.
