Yargh, I'm almost considering buying a membership. But then, the real (and public) Crysis demo will be out in a mere two weeks ( September 25), so it's not too far off...

Actually if you look at the site where keys are distributed (for members, of course) they are all gone. You have to WAIT until they reopen the site to get a key. It's bad enough purchasing a subscription but you also have to be on hold for a key in which they dont announce when they will open the signups. Screw this, I'm waiting till sept. 23rd.

 

For those who want to get a subscription just to get the beta/demo whatever - you've been waiting years for this game, what is another two weeks? If you don't get a subscription you are basically paying yourself $10 to wait two weeks.

Eh, those pics aren't too great. Crytek should release this game on a console, so people don't have to fork over unreasonable amounts of money just to play a damn game that, in the end, probably isin't even worth it.

 

I still think Half-Life 2 looks just as good, maybe even better than the DX9 version. Who's gonna play Crysis, I'm still not bored with Bioshock lol

 

I agree Phritz, Half-Life 2 looks just as good as those screenshots! As far as Crysis goes, I am sure that the stores will be short of stock in the beginning and the stores may even have the price bumped up for a couple of weeks until the initial rush is over.

 

Console games cost $10 more than PC games....

Crytek have stated in the past that they will concentrate on developing games for the PC because they think it has potential. If I remember correctly they are one of the few game developers who have not branched into consoles and have dedicated future projects solely to the PC.

 

The problem is that this is a Beta, and its MP, both factors which are not going to reproduce what you've seen in screenshots, both traditionally look much worse then the SP game.

Not to mention the fact that people are limited to open Res but locked settings at 'low', so what you're seeing is in fact low settings.

On Guru3D a guy got the game running at 30fps at 1680x1050 with 16xAA 8xAF - performance killers in the extreme. So a single 8800GTx should be cool to run the game at 1680x1050 high settings, without the filtering.

 

An 8800GTX? Sorry, but I don't want to pay 600 dollars just to play a game. I'm definately more excited about Portals and Half-Life: Episode 2, where people can be able to run that game with old and new hardware. That's the geniuses at Valve for ya.

 

Its just ridiculos to say that looks like Half Life 2 och Far cry. At least i think it looks waaay better

 

Somone here needs to get this loaded up on an 8600 GT and tell us how it runs with screenies in dx10 !!!!!!

 

From what I have read the beta does not include DX10.

Guys this is a beta I can't believe you guys are making such accusation of a non-retail build. When the retail version comes out then you can complain all yall want if it still performs the same, plus from what we seen in vids and demos it is only the tip of the iceberg, because you there is that frozen world and alien thing we still have yet to fully encounter...

How would acquiring it from usenet negate the need for a license key? It seems that normal folk (not even myself, the x3100 wouldn't be much good with Crysis methinks) will still have to wait for the public demo to be released.

Congrats to the 'torrenters'. Have fun with the install file, but being unable to actually play the game. I got in and did play.

 

QFT. There's absolutely no comparison between HL2 and Crysis. Here are some high-res videos from the Beta (Divx web-player required):

Video 3 is particularly kick-ass. The motion blur, the lighting and shadows, depth of field, the water... you can't tell me that HL2 or Far Cry look like that.

I've also heard that "Ultra Quality" and DX10 have been disabled in the Beta (probably to cut down on the file size) - so it can look even better when the game is actually released.

 

Seeing the specs of the people posting those vides, and looking at their posts about the FPS and it being only in DX9 mode, what kind of a machine will it take to handle this game on high(DX10) with all the **** on. Jesus Christ Crytek I want to play your game but you are seriously KILLING me here.

 

Seriously this game is screaming MUST GET A DESKTOP TO ENJOY. watch ur words! how is sharing a darn key is making me a pirate?! after saying that, u're not worth communicating to...pirates distribute the games along with the keys that are most likely to be blacklisted. i still don't see how sharing a legal key with someone makes that person a pirate...

Whenever you buy software, you're not paying for the CD or DVD. Those cost almost nothing. What you're really buying is the license to use that software, and that is usually identified by your unique CD key. If anybody chooses to distribute that CD key, then that is what costs the manufacturers money. I'm not sure where you got your definition of piracy. By the way, sharing that key is not legal.

And what do you mean by "it's just the american way"? What are you referring to? I can't be offended something that I don't understand.

Edit: There's no need to throw a fit and start misspelling swear words so they make it past the filters. If you're not careful, you'll get reported. Besides, it's much easier to make your point when you don't insult whoever you're trying to talk to.

Now. I need to rethink my decision to not build a desktop this school year. This game looks absolutely incredible, and my laptop won't even come minutely close to being able to handle it. Any reports on how the game play is? We know the graphics rock.

I'm not impressed by Crysis right now. I'm basing it on the screenshots and videos I've seen so far. I maybe wrong. Then again, you'll need to buy a PC that's more expensive than a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii with a couple games, just to play Crysis with graphics that is not really so much better than what the PS3 and Xbox 360 can actually output.

 

I deleted over ten posts from this thread and edited several others. I do not want to see any further arguments on insults in here otherwise this thread will be closed and the instigators will be banned on the spot. If you're not mature enough to post on these forums then there are plenty of other ones out there to pollute.

Did you watch the videos? The screenshots were taken of some random idiot with all the settings turned waaay down.. If your showcasing a game to other people, you should really turn up the settings to max...

You should check out this video here Supposably it's running like that with those graphics with 4xAA 16xAF and max settings on a E6600 non OCed, single 8800GTX system.

The only thing in which Crysis impresses me with is the lighting in the jungles, I'd be more impressed overall if the requirements were lower...
